Rocks, formed by geological processes, are not only impressive natural phenomena but often symbolically charged sites. Rocks are created through long-term geological processes, and there are many types of rocks – rocks and minerals. Sedimentary rocks are formed by the settling and solidification of sediments, such as sand, clay, and limestone. Magmatic rocks form from the solidification of magma, such as or basalt. Metamorphic rocks are formed by the transformation of existing rocks under the influence of high pressure or temperatures. Rocks have symbolic significance in various cultures and histories. They can represent resilience, durability, or even spiritual energy. Many cultures attribute mystical properties to rocks and consider them sacred places. Throughout history, rocks have often become sites of important events, such as trade routes, settlements, or battle locations. Natural formations are often stunning natural landmarks. Arches and rock windows are rock formations where the material is eroded in such a way that arches or openings are created. Monoliths are massive standalone stone blocks. Rock pillars are vertical columns formed by sedimentary rocks.

Many rocks are popular places for climbing, hiking, and bird watching. Some of the most famous locations include:

  • Petra, Jordan – a historical built in the rocks,
  • Grand Canyon, USA – a massive canyon formation formed by sedimentary rocks,
  • Meteora, Greece – monasteries built on high limestone towers.
