Archocentrus multispinosus, tiež známa pod názvom Rainbow Cichlid” je druh cichlidy pochádzajúci z oblasti Strednej Ameriky, konkrétne zo sústavy riek v Hondurasu a Nikaragui. Dorastá do veľkosti približne 15 cm. Vyžaduje teplotu medzi 2428 °C, pH v rozsahu 7,08,0 a tvrdosť vody od 5 do 20 dH.

Archocentrus multispinosus, also known as the Rainbow Cichlid,” is a species of cichlid originating from Central America, specifically from the river systems in Honduras and Nicaragua. It has distinctive coloring, which can include various shades of orange, red, and blue. It grows to a size of approximately 15 cm. It requires a temperature between 2428 °C, pH in the range of 7.08.0, and water hardness from 5 to 20 dH.

Their native habitat is the Amazon, specifically the Rio Paraguay river system. They can grow up to 30 cm and require a temperature of 2224°C. They can live up to 15 years (kvalitne.cz). Fishbase reports a maximum length of 45.7 cm, pH 68, dH 519 (fishbase.org). They quickly heal from injuries (rybicky.net).

Astronotus ocellatus is also known as the Oscar.” They have a robust body and the ability to change color. There are various color variants based on genetics and environment. They can adapt to different environmental conditions. In an aquarium, it’s important to provide them with enough space as they can be quite aggressive, especially during the breeding period. They are also known for having distinct personality traits and can form strong bonds with their owners.

Pterophyllum scalarae

Hits: 28984

Synonymá: Platax scalaris, Ptaxoides dumerilii, Pterophyllum dumerilii, Pterophyllum eimekei, Zeus scalaris. Existuje mnoho variet skalárov. Ako cenená forma sa považuje čierny skalár. Kedysi pôvodné skaláre boli úctyhodných rozmerov, dnes už takéto skaláre by sme hľadali len veľmi ťažko.

Existuje mnoho foriem skalárov, registrujem tieto: albino, amazonia, diamond, gold marbled veiltail, gold veltail, koi, leopard, marble, manacapuru, manacapuru red back.

Angelfish are perhaps the most well-known fish kept in aquariums alongside guppies and swordtails. They are South American cichlids from the Amazon basin and thrive in densely planted tanks. They are a less demanding species. Synonyms include Platax scalaris, Ptaxoides dumerilii, Pterophyllum dumerilii, Pterophyllum eimekei, Zeus scalaris. There are many varieties of angelfish, with the black angelfish considered a valuable form. Originally, angelfish were impressive in size, but nowadays finding such large angelfish is quite challenging. Today, a 10 cm high angelfish is considered good. Unfortunately, angelfish in aquarium breeding have undergone degradation due to inappropriate breeding conditions and practices. It’s common to find breeders, especially beginners, keeping angelfish in small tanks. Angelfish should be kept in at least a 150-liter tank, which is 50 cm high. It can be said that the more selectively bred they are, the more delicate they become. At the same time, they are easier to catch with a net. Wild-caught fish are more agile and not as easily caught. The more distant the varieties are from the wild form, the more delicate they become. Differentiating gender is challenging; during the breeding season, the female has a smaller nodule on her head. An angelfish is capable of laying 1000 eggs, but the fry are tiny and require strictly powdered live food, which can be a challenge. Angelfish need water pressure for breeding — a high water column. Still, if everything else is in good condition, they can breed even in 8‑liter tanks that are 20 cm high. However, this is an extreme breeding condition and should not be emulated. When angelfish have fry, they may care for them for a while if they are in egg form. Once the fry hatch, the angelfish almost always succumbs to instinct and consumes them — its own offspring. Therefore, it’s not recommended for adults to stay together during the breeding season. They lay eggs on a solid surface, which can be a plant leaf, such as an echinodorus leaf. Uneven pieces of cut PET bottles are also used.

Angelfish are peaceful fish, and it’s not advisable to keep overly curious fish that like to nip at the fins of these peaceful fish. An inappropriate combination is, for example, with tiger barbs (Capotea tetrazona). Angelfish, if given the opportunity, will eat smaller fish, such as neon tetras and guppies. If they live side by side for years, it’s possible they become accustomed to each other, and in that case, angelfish might leave these small fish” alone. Keeping angelfish with discus is a separate chapter. Discus are very demanding fish and susceptible to many diseases. Angelfish are hardier in this regard. I recommend cohabitation only for experienced breeders. In principle, it’s not excluded, but angelfish must be adequately dewormed. A similar species to angelfish, which is challenging to keep alive but reaches sizes that P. scalare once did, is Pterophyllum altum. There are many forms of angelfish; I observe these: albino, amazonia, diamond, gold marbled veiltail, gold veiltail, koi, leopard, marble, manacapuru, manacapuru red back.

Existem muitas formas de Acarás; eu observo estas: albino, amazonia, diamond, gold marbled veiltail, gold veiltail, koi, leopard, marble, manacapuru, manacapuru red back.

Táto červená oblasť pripomína otvorený oheň, čo dalo druhu jeho anglický názov Firemouth cichlid”. Samice sú obvykle menej farebné. Má agresívnu povahu, obzvlášť počas obdobia rozmnožovania. Počas tohto obdobia samec stráži teritórium a je veľmi ochranársky voči svojmu potomstvu.

Thorichthys ellioti Meek, 1904 is a South American cichlid reaching 15 cm, found in pH 78.5, dH 8 and more, at a temperature of 2528°C, occurring in Mexico, in the Rio Papaloapán basin (Fish Base), in rivers flowing into the Atlantic Ocean. The generic name is composed of the words Thor” (hunter) and Ichthys” (fish). The specific name ellioti” is named after the American naturalist Daniel Giraud Elliot (akvarista.cz). It is also known as Elliot’s cichlid” or Firemouth cichlid”. The male has a distinctive appearance with fiery red coloration on the lower part of the head and throat. This red area resembles an open flame, giving the species its English name Firemouth cichlid”. Females are usually less colorful. It has an aggressive nature, especially during the breeding period. During this time, the male guards the territory and is very protective of its offspring.

Samostatnou kapitolou je chov spoločne so skalármi.

Druhy a formy rodu Symphysodon:

  • Symphysodon aequifasciatus: axelrodi, brown heckel, coari green, red, haraldi
  • Symphysodon axelrodi: alenquer.
  • Symphysodon discus: discus, heckel
  • Symphysodon sp.: feuer ror, kitti red doll, penang super red, super red, malboro red, snake skin

Discus fish, also known as Symphysodon, stand as regal beings in the realm of freshwater aquaristics. Similar to angelfish (skaláre), they belong to the family of South American cichlids. Their breeding and rearing pose considerable challenges and demands. Among other requirements, they need warm water between 2830 °C, and very soft water, especially during breeding. Recently, captive-bred discus fish have adapted to tolerate permanently hard water.

A separate chapter in the care of discus fish addresses their compatibility with angelfish. Coexistence is recommended only for experienced breeders. In principle, it is not excluded, but angelfish must be adequately dewormed. During their reproduction, discus fish exhibit a unique behavior: they excrete a skin secretion that nourishes their offspring. It contains protective substances, fulfilling a function similar to maternal milk in mammals or fur tearing in rabbits and hares. It is crucial to create a sufficient amount of secretion for successful rearing.

Species and Forms of the Genus Symphysodon:

  • Symphysodon aequifasciatus: axelrodi, brown heckel, coari green, red, haraldi
  • Symphysodon axelrodi: alenquer
  • Symphysodon discus: discus, heckel
  • Symphysodon sp.: feuer ror, kitti red doll, penang super red, super red, malboro red, snake skin

Breeding discus fish is a fascinating endeavor. The process involves the female creating a basket with her pectoral fins to hold the sticky eggs. Successful breeding requires specific conditions, including a balanced diet and an environment conducive to the breeding pair. The excretion of skin mucus during reproduction is a distinctive feature and a crucial aspect for a successful rearing process. The various species and forms within the genus Symphysodon offer aquarists a diverse range of options, each displaying its unique beauty and characteristic features

  • Symphysodon aequifasciatus: axelrodi, brown heckel, coari green, red, haraldi
  • Symphysodon axelrodi: alenquer
  • Symphysodon discus: discus, heckel
  • Symphysodon sp.: feuer ror, kitti red doll, penang super red, super red, malboro red, snake skin
