v neoplývajú záplavou svetelného smogu, ale zväčša pomerne decentne pôsobiacimi zákutiami. Sú samozrejme výnimky, ktoré vyplývajú najskôr z bezpečnostných dôvodov. Aj typická vianočný výzdoba je adaptovaná na genius loci Piešťan. Odporúčam zájsť napr. ku jazierkam, do centra a užiť si mesto. Prípadne ku Váhu. Rieka, a poskytujú celkom jedinečnú optiku.

Piešťany at night are not overwhelmed by light pollution, but rather feature quite tasteful corners. Of course, there are exceptions, primarily for security reasons. Even the typical Christmas decorations are adapted to the genius loci of Piešťany. I recommend visiting places such as the ponds, the city center, and enjoying the town, or perhaps heading to the River. The river, water, and bridges offer a truly unique perspective.

Piešťany sind nachts nicht von einer Flut von Lichtsmog überzogen, sondern zeichnen sich durch eher dezent wirkende Ecken und Winkel aus. Natürlich gibt es Ausnahmen, die wahrscheinlich aus Sicherheitsgründen notwendig sind. Auch die typische Weihnachtsbeleuchtung ist dem Genius Loci von Piešťany angepasst. Ich empfehle, zum Beispiel zu den Teichen, ins Stadtzentrum oder an die Waag zu gehen und die Stadt zu genießen. Der Fluss, das Wasser und die Brücken bieten eine ganz einzigartige Optik.

Pred Vianocami sa koná na Vianočných trhoch množstvo hudobnej produkcie na Vianočných trhoch a často aj pred Irmou na kúpeľnom ostrove. Na Winterovej ulici sa v posledných rokoch ponúka skvelý punč. Tradične sa zapaľujú adventné sviece, na fontánu pred Irmou sa inštaluje veľký adventný veniec.

Markthof leží neďaleko od hraníc zo Slovenskom, oproti Devínskej Kobyle, resp. mestskej časti Bratislavy – Devínu, na brehu .

Do roku 1906 bolo pomenovanie Hof an der March. Markthof je osadou obce Engelhartstetten. Na úplnom východe Marchfeldu pri ústí Moravy do Dunaja. Prvá písomná zmienka je z roku 1273. V roku 1822 bolo v obci 58 (Wikipedia). Jeho pôvod zrejme súvisí s kráľovským majetkom Disinfurth, ktorý cisár Henrich IV. spolu s právom prepravy cez Moravu daroval 6. marca 1067 biskupovi Altmannovi z Passau. Tento názov obce však neskôr zmizol, možno kvôli povodniam, ktoré obec zničili. Najstaršie písomné zmienky o obci s názvom de Hoven pochádzajú z 12. storočia. Po celé stáročia trpela osada povodňami Moravy a Dunaja. V roku 1774 zničila ľadová povodeň most cez Moravu. V roku 1880 zničila povodeň v dôsledku ľadovej povodne most znova. Následne nebol už viac postavený. Spojenie medzi Hofom a Devínskou Novou Vsou prevzala kompa. Ťažké záplavy postihli túto oblasť vo februári 1876, v septembri 1890, v júni 1892, na 1895, v rokoch 1896 a 1897. Žiadosť obce o presídlenie bola cisárom Františkom Jozefom zamietnutá. Nariadil však predĺženie ochrannej hrádze na Dunaji až po Hof an der March. V roku 1882 začala aj výstavba ochrannej hrádze (gedaechtnisdeslandes.at). 

V roku 1938 tu pôsobil mäsiar, dvaja hostinskí, dvaja obchodníci so zmiešaným tovarom, mliečne družstvo, kováč, dvaja obuvníci a viacero poľnohospodárov. Do Devínskej Novej Vsi viedol cez Moravu most, ktorý bol okrem pilierov demontovaný počas studenej . Nachádza sa tu farský kostol Markthof, kostol svätého Juraja, kaplnka na ochrannej hrádzi – kaplnka svätého Floriána, socha svätého Jána Nepomuckého z roku 1722 (Wikipedia).

Dňa 22. decembra 1971 sa konalo posledné zasadnutie obecného zastupiteľstva. Od 1. januára 1972 patrí Markthof k obci Engelhartstetten. V roku 2010 sa rozhodlo o výstavbe cyklistického a pešieho mosta cez Moravu. Spája cyklotrasu Železná opona resp. cyklotrasu Kamp-Thaya-March a cyklotrasu Marchfeldkanal s cyklotrasou . Po počiatočných problémoch s nájdením názvu sa nakoniec dohodlo na názve „Cyklistický most slobody“ (slovensky „Cyklomost slobody“). Názov má pripomínať železnú oponu a ľudí, ktorí pri pokuse prekročiť Moravu do slobodného západu prišli o život (gedaechtnisdeslandes.at).

Markthof lies near the border with Slovakia, opposite , which is a part of the district , on the bank of the Morava River.

Until 1906, the village was named Hof an der March. Markthof is a settlement of the municipality of Engelhartstetten. It is located at the very eastern end of Marchfeld, where the Morava River flows into the Danube. The first written mention of the village dates back to 1273. In 1822, the village had 58 houses (Wikipedia). Its origin is probably related to the royal estate Disinfurth, which Emperor Henry IV, along with the right to ferry across the Morava, granted to Bishop Altmann of Passau on March 6, 1067. However, this name later disappeared, possibly due to floods that destroyed the village. The oldest written records of the village under the name de Hoven date back to the 12th century. For centuries, the settlement suffered from floods of the Morava and Danube rivers. In 1774, an ice flood destroyed the bridge over the Morava. In 1880, a flood again destroyed the bridge due to an ice flood. Subsequently, it was not rebuilt. The connection between Hof and Devínska Nová Ves was taken over by a ferry. Severe floods hit this area in February 1876, September 1890, June 1892, spring 1895, and in 1896 and 1897. A request by the village for relocation was denied by Emperor Franz Joseph. However, he ordered the extension of the Danube protection dam up to Hof an der March. In 1882, the construction of the Marchfeld protection dam also began (gedaechtnisdeslandes.at).

In 1938, there was a butcher, two innkeepers, two general store owners, a dairy cooperative, a blacksmith, two shoemakers, and several farmers operating in the village. A bridge over the Morava River led to Devínska Nová Ves, which, except for the pillars, was dismantled during the Cold War. The village features the parish church of Markthof, the church of Saint George, the chapel on the protection dam – the chapel of Saint Florian, a statue of Saint John of Nepomuk from 1722 (Wikipedia).

On December 22, 1971, the last meeting of the municipal council took place. Since January 1, 1972, Markthof has been part of the municipality of Engelhartstetten. In 2010, it was decided to build a pedestrian and cyclist bridge over the Morava River. It connects the Iron Curtain Trail and the Kamp-Thaya-March Trail with the Marchfeldkanal Trail and the Danube Trail. After initial difficulties in finding a name, it was finally agreed to name it the „Freedom Cycle Bridge“ (Slovak „Cyklomost slobody“). The name is intended to recall the Iron Curtain and the people who lost their lives trying to cross the Morava River to reach the free West (gedaechtnisdeslandes.at).

Im Jahr 1882 begann auch der Bau des Marchfeldschutzdamms (gedaechtnisdeslandes.at).

Im Jahr 1938 gab es in der Ortschaft einen Fleischer, zwei Gastwirte, zwei Gemischtwarenhändler, eine Milchgenossenschaft, einen Schmied, zwei Schuhmacher und mehrere Landwirte. Eine Brücke über die March führte nach Devínska Nová Ves, die bis auf die Pfeiler während des Kalten Krieges abgebaut wurde. Im Dorf gibt es die Pfarrkirche von Markthof, die Kirche des Heiligen Georg, die Kapelle am Schutzdamm – die Kapelle des Heiligen Florian, eine Statue des Heiligen Johannes von Nepomuk aus dem Jahr 1722 (Wikipedia).

Am 22. Dezember 1971 fand die letzte Gemeinderatssitzung statt. Seit dem 1. Januar 1972 gehört Markthof zur Gemeinde Engelhartstetten. Im Jahr 2010 wurde beschlossen, eine Fußgänger- und Fahrradbrücke über die March zu errichten. Sie verbindet den Iron Curtain Trail und den Kamp-Thaya-March Trail mit dem Marchfeldkanal Trail und dem Donauradweg. Nach anfänglichen Schwierigkeiten bei der Namensfindung einigte man sich schließlich auf den Namen „Fahrradbrücke der Freiheit“ (slowakisch „Cyklomost slobody“). Der Name soll an den Eisernen Vorhang und an die Menschen erinnern, die beim Versuch, über die March in den freien Westen zu gelangen, ihr Leben verloren haben (gedaechtnisdeslandes.at).
