Kačky

Kačky majú charakteristický tvar tela s krátkymi krkmi, širokými chvostmi a krátkymi nohami, ktoré sú umiestnené na zadnej časti tela. Ich zobáky sú široké a ploché, čo im umožňuje filtrovať potravu z vody. Kačky sú prítomné po celom svete v rôznych druhoch prostredí, od sladkovodných jazier a riek po morské pobrežia. Sú adaptabilné, rôznorodé. Väčšina kačiek je všežravá, živí sa rybami, hmyzom, malými vodnými bezstavovcami, rastlinami, semenami. Hniezdia na brehu vodných plôch alebo v trstine a tráve. Hniezdo zvyčajne vystelú perím. Samice kačiek sú známe pre svoje verné hniezdenie a ochranu svojich mláďat. Mláďatá sú po vyliahnutí schopné plávať a okamžite sa pridávajú ku svojej matke. Sú často sociálne a tvoria skupiny, zvlášť počas migrácie alebo v zime. Majú dôležitú úlohu v ekosystéme, regulujú populácie bezstavovcov a prispievajú k rozptylu semien vodných rastlín. Niektoré kačky domestikované a chované pre mäso, vajcia alebo ako domáce zvieratá.
