Divoký druh živorodky pochádzajúci z Jamajky. Je to veľmi živý, neustále sa pohybujúci zjav v akváriu. Známa aj ako “Blackbelly Limia”. Jej charakteristickým znakom je čierna farba brucha, preto melanogaster – “čiernobruchá.” Samčeky majú často intenzívnejšie farby. Je pomerne mierumilovná, potrebuje teplotu vody medzi 24 – 28 °C. Reprodukcie maximálne schopný druh. Prijíma snáď akúkoľvek potravu. Patrí do čeľade Poeciliidae. Vyskytuje sa v sladkovodných aj brakických vodách. Dorastá do dĺžky približne 4 až 6 cm. Telo má pretiahnutý tvar s výraznou čiernou páskou, ktorá sa tiahne od hlavy až po chvost. Samce sú spravidla menšie a farebne výraznejšie než samice. Okrem čiernej pásky môžu mať aj metalický lesk s odtieňmi modrej, zelenej alebo zlatej farby. Samice sú väčšie, plnšie a menej nápadné. Obýva pomaly tečúce rieky, potoky a stojaté vody. Je spoločenská, všežravá a pokojná, najlepšie sa cíti v skupinách. Pri chove v skupine si udržiavajú svoje prirodzené sociálne správanie. V prírode sa živí drobnými bezstavovcami, riasami a organickým materiálom. Vhodné sú ako doplnok aj zelené potraviny, ako napríklad špenát alebo spirulina. Samica rodí 20 až 50 mláďat. Mladé rybky rastú pomerne rýchlo a pri vhodnej starostlivosti sa môžu už po niekoľkých mesiacoch rozmnožovať. Odporúča sa akvárium s objemom aspoň 60 litrov, kde by mala byť mierna filtrácia a dostatok úkrytov vo forme rastlín, kameňov alebo dreva. Voda by mala byť mierne tvrdá až tvrdá s pH v rozmedzí 7,0 – 8,0 a teplotou 24 – 28 °C.
