V roku 2010 bol koncom roka veľmi silný prúd vody vo Váhu, preto otužilci šli do vody z iného miesta a bolo ich menej.
In Piešťany, it is a tradition for the polar bears, right after Christmas Day, to take a dip in the Váh River. Some try to make it to the other side of the bank, while others simply enjoy a refreshing swim in the cold water. I wonder if, at some point, a seal hunting demonstration will be part of the event.
In 2010, towards the end of the year, there was a very strong water current in the Váh River, so the enthusiasts entered the water from a different location, and there were fewer participants.

Czechia is our western neighbor. We are connected to it by a common history. After all, it was only in 1993 that the federation of Czechoslovakia dissolved. The capital city is Prague. The so-called father of the country is Charles IV.
Česko tvoria Čechy, Morava a Sliezsko. Geologicky Český masív a Západné Karpaty. Prvé osídlenie siaha do staršej doby kamennej, zhruba 28000 rokov pred n. l. (Wikipedia.sk).
“The official name of the state is the Czech Republic, simply Czechia. Some of the public rejects the word Czechia. Its first usage dates back to 1777 as a synonym for Bohemia (Wikipedia.cs). Czechia consists of Bohemia, Moravia, and Silesia. Geologically, it includes the Czech Massif and the Western Carpathians. Its area is 78,866 km², with a population of over 10 million people. Major Czech rivers include the Elbe, Vltava, Morava, Dyje, Odra, and Opava. Climate-wise, it is characterized by a mix of oceanic and continental influences. The patron saint of the Czech country is Saint Wenceslaus. The first settlement dates back to the Upper Paleolithic, approximately 28,000 years before Christ (Wikipedia.sk). Evidence of Homo habilis has been found in the Beroun district, Suchdol, Čakovice. Homo erectus at the Písečný vrch site near Bečov, near Přezletice, near Stránská skála. Homo sapiens sapiens – Pavlovian sites – Předmostí near Přerov, Dolní Věstonice, Pavlov, Petřkovice. From the 5th century BC, Celts – Boii lived here. In southern Moravia, the Volcae – Tectosages (Wikipedia.cs).”
Jahrhundert v. Chr. lebten Kelten – die Boier – hier. In Südmähren lebten die Volkovianer – die Teutonen (Wikipedia.cs).
V 1. storočí sem prichádzali germánske kmene Kvádi a Markomani. Karol IV. pripojil Braniborsko, Lužice a Sliezsko (Wikipedia.cs).
In the 1st century, Germanic tribes, such as the Quadi and Marcomanni, migrated to this territory. According to some historians, for example, Balázs Komoróczy, there was an attempt by the Romans to create the province of Marcomania on part of the territory during the rule of Marcus Aurelius, with its center likely in southern Moravia, possibly in Mušov (Wikipedia.cs). By the beginning of the 5th century, the population decreased, with a part likely leaving in 409 with the Vandals and Alans. In the first half of the 5th century, due to the departure of the Marcomanni to Noricum, the region was affected. There was probably an influence of the Hun invasion led by Attila on the Morava in the late 5th century. By the end of the 5th century, against the current of the Elbe, the Lombards and Thuringians reached Bohemia. In the second half of the 6th century, Slavic tribes arrived here (Wikipedia.cs). In the 7th century, a part of the territory became part of the Samo Empire. In the 9th century, it became part of Great Moravia. Unification occurred in the 10th century through the efforts of the Přemyslid dynasty (Wikipedia.sk). The Czech Kingdom, established in 1198, reached its peak of power under the rule of the last Přemyslids and Charles IV. During the reign of Přemysl Otakar II, it extended beyond the Alps to the Adriatic Sea. Wenceslaus II acquired territories through Poland to the Baltic Sea, while Wenceslaus III gained Hungarian territories. Charles IV annexed Brandenburg, Lusatia, and Silesia (Wikipedia.cs).
Až do roku 1804 Česko patrilo k rímskonemeckej ríši.
Czechia was a significant part of the Holy Roman Empire, and its ruler held the position of an elector – a voter for the emperor. In the 15th century, Czechia was substantially weakened by the Hussites (Wikipedia.cs). Until 1804, Czechia belonged to the Holy Roman Empire. From 1526 to 1918, it was concurrently part of the Austrian Empire (Wikipedia.sk). In 1526, the Habsburg monarchy took the Czech throne. The victory at the Battle of White Mountain in 1620 contributed to the final elimination of the last remnants of independence. The crown territories, which were largely incongruent after 1749, remained so until the end of World War I in 1918: the Kingdom of Bohemia, the Margraviate of Moravia, and the Duchy of Upper and Lower Silesia (Wikipedia.cs). From 1867 to 1918, Czechia was part of Austria-Hungary. The border regions of Bohemia and Moravia – the Sudetenland – were inhabited by Germans from the 13th century until 1945 (Wikipedia.sk). From the 17th century until the early 19th century, Germanization efforts took place in Czech territory (Wikipedia.cs). In the years 1771 – 1772, at least 250,000 people died during a famine (Veselý), leading to extensive unrest (Vašků).
