Štr­ba je pod­ta­trans­ká obec, v kto­rej žije 3890 oby­va­te­ľov. Bola zalo­že­ná v roku 1280 na pan­stve lip­tov­ské­ho gró­fa Bogo­mí­ra a v prvej písom­nej zmien­ke je jej názov Chor­ba”. Zakla­da­te­ľom bol šol­týs Hot­ta. Postup­ne obec pat­ri­la rodi­nám z vet­vy Bogo­mí­ra. Oby­va­te­lia sa zaobe­ra­li pas­tier­stvom, dre­vo­ru­bač­stvom, pále­ním uhlia a váp­na, neskôr aj povoz­níc­tvom. V roku 1896 posta­vi­li z for­mu­jú­cej sa osa­dy oko­lo želez­nič­nej sta­ni­ce Tatrans­ká Štr­ba ozub­ni­co­vú želez­ni­cu na Štr­b­ské Ple­so. Neďa­le­ko od obce je aj zanik­nu­tá osa­da Šol­dov, v kto­rej stá­lo kedy­si opát­stvo, zanik­lo však v 14. sto­ro­čí. Obcou pre­chá­dza aj hlav­né európ­ske roz­vo­die medzi Balt­ským a Čier­nym morom (vyso​ke​-tat​ry​.info).


Štr­ba is a sub-​Tatra vil­la­ge with a popu­la­ti­on of 3,890 resi­dents. It was foun­ded in 1280 on the esta­te of Lip­to­v’s Count Bogo­mír, and its first writ­ten men­ti­on bears the name Chor­ba.” The foun­der was the bai­liff Hot­ta. Gra­du­al­ly, the vil­la­ge belo­n­ged to fami­lies from Bogo­mí­r’s line­a­ge. The inha­bi­tants were enga­ged in shep­her­ding, log­ging, char­co­al, and lime bur­ning, later also in car­ting. In 1896, they built a cog rai­lway to Štr­b­ské Ple­so from the emer­ging sett­le­ment around the Tatrans­ká Štr­ba rai­lway sta­ti­on. Not far from the vil­la­ge is the extinct sett­le­ment Šol­dov, whe­re the­re used to be an abbey, but it disap­pe­a­red in the 14th cen­tu­ry. The main Euro­pe­an waters­hed bet­we­en the Bal­tic and Black Seas also pas­ses through the vil­la­ge (vyso​ke​-tat​ry​.info).
