Tropheus duboisi Marlier, 1959. Dorastajú do 12 cm. Registrujem tieto formy: Bemba, Karilani, Kigoma, Maragarasi, Maswa. Maswa Halembe, Ubira.
Tropheus duboisi Marlier, 1959. They grow up to 12 cm. In the lake, they occur as four separate populations named after their localities: Bemba, Kigoma, Maswa, Karilani (Akvarista.cz). Duboisi are typical herbivores of Lake Tanganyika, and it is not recommended to feed them anything resembling meat. Some breeders mention the use of fish fillets, but caution is advised. I do not recommend keeping less than ten individuals, as males can become aggressive towards each other. Duboisi are territorial, and with a larger number, aggression is distributed. The recommended ratio is three males to seven females. Young Duboisi, as they are called among aquarists, are amazingly colored with white spots standing out on a black background. In adulthood, these spots fade, and a pale light-blue relatively wide band develops just behind the point where their body is highest. Somewhat like a deer. In nature, they reach up to 12 cm, but in large aquariums, I have seen individuals measuring up to thirty centimeters. In the wild, they actively seek their food. Keeping them is demanding. Tropheus are sensitive to nitrate levels, so maintaining a clean aquarium, having efficient filtration, and regularly changing a significant amount of water is recommended. Weekly water changes of half the tank volume are not excluded. Tropheus love clean, fresh water. Suitable food for Duboisi includes vegetables such as lettuce, spinach, carrots, cabbage, cucumbers, fruits, and live cyclops. During breeding, Tropheus carry the offspring in a papule, making them papulovores. The number of offspring is quite small, sometimes 5, sometimes 10 individuals, and occasionally only 1 – 2 individuals. On the other hand, the released fry from the papules of adult Tropheus females are significant. I register these forms: Bemba, Karilani, Kigoma, Maragarasi, Maswa. Maswa Halembe, Ubira.
Tropheus duboisi Marlier, 1959. Maswa Halembe, Ubira.
Tropheus duboisi Marlier, 1959. Wanakua hadi sentimita 12.
Registrujem tieto formy: Pombo Rocks, Ndumbi Reef. Samce majú výrazné modré a čierne pruhy na svojom telách. V prírodnom prostredí žijú v skalnatých oblastiach.
Demasonis are beautiful fish that grow up to 6 cm. They are very intolerant towards each other and aggressive towards other species. They dare to challenge fish ten times their size and often chase fry with the intention of intimidation. However, they are stunning dark blue fish that reproduce less easily. It is advisable to keep Demasonis in larger groups, for example, 20 – 50 individuals. Determining their gender is quite challenging, mostly based on behavior. The male usually swims throughout the entire aquarium, while the mature female spends most of the day in one place or stays in her narrowly defined territory. Demasonis are very elegant fish, and when in good condition, they become a beautiful part of our aquarium. In Lake Malawi, they are found in two locations: Pombo Rocks and Ndumbi Reef (Akvarista.cz). I register these forms: Pombo Rocks, Ndumbi Reef. Males have distinctive blue and black stripes on their bodies. In their natural environment, they live in rocky areas.
The species Cyphotilapia gibberosa was considered a form of Cyphotilapia frontosa. C. frontosa has one more transverse stripe on its body than C. gibberosa. Both species represent the wildest form of nature for me and are symbols of Africa. They can reach 30 – 50 cm. In the wild, they inhabit the deeper parts of Lake Tanganyika – around 40 meters below the surface. When capturing them, it is necessary to proceed gradually, otherwise, damage to the swim bladder may occur. According to Tanganyika, the capture process takes 4 – 5 days.
In the aquarium, it is sometimes interesting to observe how they take food from the bottom. Like a suction pump – they approach and suck water into themselves. Food gets into their papule by the pressure of water. They then expel the substrate. It is particularly fascinating when they consume “fleas”. They prefer larger food items, accepting fish fillets and enjoying pellets, as well as spaghetti. Fish up to seven centimeters are their prey. Frontosas are large fish, reaching over 10 cm in height. A larger aquarium is suitable, I would recommend 1,000 liters or more. In a shallow aquarium, their pectoral fins may suffer. In terms of difficulty, I would assess Cyphotilapia as moderately demanding. They are intelligent fish that can learn to take food from your hand and even enjoy being petted. However, they are curious and, given their strength, can splash you quite thoroughly. They are more aggressive when feeding. I lost one individual of Copadichromis borleyi kadangxo red fin in a curious way. During feeding, the borleyi always pushed aggressively towards the food. However, Cyphotilapia gibberosa was hungrier and, most importantly, stronger. Its mouth is truly grandiose, and since it ignored the consequences, it bit into the face of the female Copadichromis. There was a visible scar on one side, and on the other, an even larger plus, an eye that hung on only a few millimeters. The food battle was completed by Pseudotropheus socolofi albin, who swam to the affected fish, opened the papule, aimed, and with a strong jerk, gleefully devoured the eye. As if nothing else was the essence of its existence, just waiting for such an opportunity. – after this shameless act, it immediately but calmly swam away. Other fish don’t pay attention, they majestically swim, and nothing disturbs them under normal circumstances. But if some fish stands against them, they can effectively defend themselves. Some individuals are more temperamental, but frontosas are generally calm. Towards each other, their own kind, they are often very active. Reproduction is challenging, and I would consider tranquility as a key prerequisite.
Registrujem tieto formy: El Salto, Ocampo.
A beautiful wild livebearer species. Synonyms: Xiphophorus montezumae. Originating from Mexico – Rio Tamasi, San Luis Potosi (Fish Base). They behave similarly to swordtails; males compete among themselves but are considerably more peaceful than Xiphophorus helleri. Their breeding requires a bit more attention, as they belong to an unaltered taxon. They don’t have as big of an appetite, so they produce less waste. Males have an elongated lower fin resembling a sword, which is a characteristic feature of this species. They are suitable for a community aquarium due to their relatively calm nature. I register these forms: El Salto, Ocampo.
Eine wunderschöne wilde lebendgebärende Art. Synonyme: Xiphophorus montezumae.
