V roku 1870 vznikol kameňolom a teheľňa. Pôvodný asfaltový pohraničný chodník, tzv. “signálka” z čias železnej opony, dnes slúži ako cyklotrasa (Wikipedia).
Pôvodný názov obce je Nová Ves (devinskanovaves.sk). Ďalšie historické pomenovania: Nova Wass, Divin-Új-Falu, Wyfalu, Theben-Neudorf, Dévényújfalu, Neudorf an der March (Wikipedia).
Devínska Nová Ves is situated at an altitude of 172 meters above sea level. Covering an area of 24.22 km², it is home to approximately 16,000 residents. It lies on the edge of the Záhorie lowland and at the foothills of Devínska Kobyla. The local parts of the city include Devínske Jazero, Kostolné, Podhorské, Paulinské, and Sídlisko Stred, Vápenka. Devínska Nová Ves serves as a significant railway junction. It is home to the Volkswagen Slovakia a.s. automotive plant. In the past, there was a narrow-gauge railway connecting the current station with Devín, which was used before World War II to transport ore from the western slope of the Devín Mountains. There was also a lime kiln. In the 18th century, a sandstone quarry was established with a cableway on Sandberg, which transported sand to ships on the Morava River. In 1870, a stone quarry and brickyard were established. The original asphalt border footpath, known as the “signálka,” from the time of the Iron Curtain, now serves as a cycle path (Wikipedia).
The original name of the settlement is Nová Ves. Other historical designations include Nova Wass, Divin-Új-Falu, Wyfalu, Theben-Neudorf, Dévényújfalu, Neudorf an der March (Wikipedia). Devínska Nová Ves is first mentioned in writing in 1451 (devinskanovaves.sk). There are unique finds documenting Slavic-Avar settlement. Here is one of the oldest and most significant cemeteries from the 7th to 9th centuries. Two great Moravian fortresses stood on two hills above the March in the 9th century. On the smaller platform of the lower hill was a fortified settlement called “Na skale.” The fortress was defended by a 2‑meter-high protective wall, the embankment of which can still be recognized in the terrain today. The upper fortress, labeled “Na pieskoch,” was located on a higher platform above the yellow wall of Sandberg. The fortification of the fortress consisted of a mighty embankment reinforced from the south by a ditch. From the fortresses, the surrounding area could be controlled, especially the wide Marchfeld on the other side of the March. It is not excluded that these fortresses were the castle of Prince Rastislav of Devín, against which, according to the Annals of Fulda, Karl, the son of the East Frankish king Louis the German, unsuccessfully attacked in 869 (Wikipedia). Devínska Nová Ves was originally a settlement of the Devín manor (Information board).
In the 1530s, the settlement was plundered by foreign mercenaries invited to protect Bratislava from the Turks (Information board). In the 1530s, Croats moved here, who even outnumbered the original population. This led to the name Chorvátska Nová Ves in 1552. The name Devínska Nová Ves is only documented from the 18th century. Since 1972, it has been a district of Bratislava (devinskanovaves.sk). Today, it is home to the largest Croatian minority in Slovakia, and the Croatian Culture Festival takes place here every year. Famous residents of Devínska Nová Ves include writers Peter Pišťanek, Rudolf Sloboda (Wikipedia). After 1972, Devínska Nová Ves significantly expanded with new settlements and businesses, especially in the automotive industry (Information board).

Úprava Vydrice v minulosti spôsobila narušenie spodných vôd a prameň zanikol. Súčasťou mlynov boli vodné nádrže. Prvá je datovaná už do roku 1761. Stali sa z nich rybníky s možnosťou kúpania, člnkovania a v zime korčuľovania (Brna).

In the Vydrica Valley, millers settled long ago, constructing mills (Brna). One of them is presented in another contribution. In 1830, Ferdinand’s baths (Eisenbrundel) were opened here, built by Jozef Pergameny (Brna). However, in 1844, Jakub Palugay converted them into a hotel. The city began to manage the area in 1894. In 1938, extensive revitalization of the entire area took place. However, the building was devastated in the 1960s, and it was demolished in 1970. Past modifications to Vydricka led to disruption of groundwater, and the spring disappeared. Water reservoirs were part of the mills. The first one dates back to 1761. In 1846, four were built. They were revived after the mills ceased in 1901. They became ponds suitable for swimming, boating, and winter skating (Brna).

The landscape near Hainburg, which I was particularly interested in, belongs to the unique European national park Donau-Auen. It is actually located between the major cities of Bratislava and Vienna. Hainburg an der Donau is a small town near Bratislava. Above the town are two hills: Braunsberg and Schlossberg. On Schlossberg hill stands Hainburg Castle.
On an area of 25 km² live just under 6,000 inhabitants (cestovanie.biz). Emperor Henry III built Schlossberg Castle on the hill from the original older walls in 1050 (cestovanie.biz). In 1108, the castle became owned by the Babenberg family (Wikipedia). In the second half of the 12th century, its reconstruction was overseen by Richard the Lionheart. In the 13th century, it was owned by the Czech ruler Přemysl Otakar. In 1252, it became the property of the Habsburgs. Around 1629, the city began to deteriorate (cestovanie.biz). In 1683, the city was plundered by the Turks. 8000 inhabitants perished (Wikipedia). It was then that Thomas Haydn, the father of the composer Joseph Haydn, managed to escape. In 1789, Emperor Joseph II relocated a tobacco processing factory here, which held significant economic importance in the city for decades (cestovanie.biz). The city is home to one of the best-preserved medieval city gates in Europe – Wienertor (Vienna Gate) and Ungertor – Hungarian Gate (cestovanie.biz) (Hungarian Gate) (Wikipedia). The ruins of Heimenburg Castle (Röthelstein), located less than 2 km from the city (cestovanie.biz), near the Danube, below Braunsberg. Every June, medieval markets are held here, and in summer, castle festivities take place (Wikipedia).
