In the 8th cen­tu­ry, the feast of All Saints began to be celeb­ra­ted on Novem­ber 1st in Ire­land and England, and in Rome from the 9th cen­tu­ry (Wiki­pe­dia CZ). The Celts used to pre­pa­re a feast for the souls. The who­le ritu­al was to ensu­re the inha­bi­tants of the hou­se pea­ce from evil spi­rits and pro­tec­ti­on by good spi­rits. Masks of wit­ches and fire were sup­po­sed to help dri­ve away demons and lead good souls to the realm of death. The Irish legend tells of Jack O’Lan­tern, a drun­kard who was rejec­ted by both hea­ven and hell for his vile beha­vi­or. Howe­ver, hell could not accept him becau­se he had rece­i­ved a spe­cial pro­mi­se from the devil through dece­it. Sin­ce then, his spi­rit has been tra­ve­ling around the world with a pump­kin lan­tern. This is how the cus­tom of pla­cing pump­kins on win­do­ws and sills ori­gi­na­ted. Peop­le belie­ve that Jack takes the light and pro­tects them from evil spi­rits (diva​.sk).

Dunaj aj v zime je majes­tát­nou rie­kou pre­te­ka­jú­cou cez stred­nú Euró­pu. V zime mení čias­toč­ne svoj cha­rak­ter. Níz­ke tep­lo­ty spô­so­bu­jú zamŕ­za­nie. Sne­ho­vé zráž­ky budia dojem čis­to­ty a ticha v sce­né­rii, kde inak domi­nu­je ruch. Zima for­mu­je aj fau­nu a samoz­rej­me aj fló­ru. Ľad doká­že obme­dziť pohyb nie­kto­rých dru­hov rýb a iných vod­ných orga­niz­mov. Nie­kto­ré ryby sú aktív­ne aj v zime. Zamrz­nu­té bre­hy sú pries­to­rom rea­li­zá­cie pre vtá­ky, labu­te, kor­mo­rá­ny, kto­ré sú nachá­dza­jú pokoj­né mies­ta na zimo­va­nie. Bre­hy sú v zime aj domo­vom mno­hých dru­hov vtá­kov. Nachá­dza­jú tu aj potra­vu. Zima pri­ná­ša prí­le­ži­tosť pre skú­ma­nie adap­tá­cií, zmien v ekosystéme.

They find food here as well. Win­ter brings an oppor­tu­ni­ty for stu­dy­ing adap­ta­ti­ons and chan­ges in the ecosystem.

Exis­tu­jú rôz­ne dru­hy volieb, vrá­ta­ne par­la­ment­ných volieb, pre­zi­dent­ských volieb, komu­nál­nych volieb a refe­rend. V par­la­ment­ných voľ­bách voli­či vybe­ra­jú poslan­cov ale­bo zástup­cov do legis­la­tí­vy, v pre­zi­dent­ských voľ­bách zvo­lia hla­vu štá­tu, v komu­nál­nych voľ­bách volia miest­ne samo­správ­ne orgá­ny a v refe­ren­de môžu roz­ho­do­vať pria­mo o kon­krét­nych otáz­kach. Voľ­by sú základ­ným prv­kom demok­ra­cie a umož­ňu­jú obča­nom vyjad­riť svo­je názo­ry a pre­fe­ren­cie. Pro­stred­níc­tvom hla­so­va­nia majú mož­nosť ovplyv­niť poli­tic­ké roz­hod­nu­tia a výber tých, kto­rí budú zod­po­ved­ní za ria­de­nie kra­ji­ny ale­bo miest­nej samosprávy.

Elec­ti­ons are a fun­da­men­tal ele­ment of democ­ra­cy and allow citi­zens to express the­ir opi­ni­ons and pre­fe­ren­ces. Through voting, they have the oppor­tu­ni­ty to influ­en­ce poli­ti­cal deci­si­ons and select tho­se who will be res­pon­sib­le for gover­ning the coun­try or local governance.
