Strečniansky hrad (Strechun, Strechyn, Streczen, Streczan, Strežín) sa nachádza na 103 metrov vysokom brale vo nadmorskej výške 440 metrov (Wikipedia). Hrad Strečno sa nachádza na hlavnom cestnom a železničnom ťahu Bratislava – Žilina – Košice. Neďaleko pod hradom tečie Váh (hradstrecno.sk). Hradná vyvýšenina bola obývaná už v 13. storočí. Prvá písomná zmienka je z roku 1316 (strecno.sk). Vznikol pravdepodobne na staršom základe slovanského hradiska (Wikipedia).
Architektúra hradu je dokladom vývoja stredovekej pevnosti od gotiky po baroko (Informačná tabuľa). V bezprostrednej blízkosti hradu boli dva mlyny – jeden bol na Váhu, druhý stál pri majeri pod hradom za cestou (pokladyslovenska.sk). Pod hlavnou bránou bola nájdená studňa hlboká 88 metrov (slovakia.com). V roku 1910 bol hrad čiastočne spevnený. V roku 1944 bol cez vojnu poškodený. V rokoch 1978 až 1994 prebiehala komplexná rekonštrukcia (strecno.sk).
