Ich cha­rak­ter a vidi­teľ­nosť sú ovplyv­ne­né nie­len dru­hom zvie­ra­ťa ale­bo člo­ve­ka, ale aj pove­ter­nost­ný­mi pod­mien­ka­mi a vlast­nos­ťa­mi pod­kla­du. Footp­rints are cre­a­ted by humans, and they are usu­al­ly sym­met­ri­cal and arran­ged with a dis­tinct pat­tern depen­ding on the type of foot­we­ar, often with visib­le details such as laces or spi­kes. Footp­rints offer a uni­que per­spec­ti­ve on move­ment and acti­vi­ties in a par­ti­cu­lar loca­ti­on. The­ir cha­rac­ter and visi­bi­li­ty are influ­en­ced not only by the type of ani­mal or human but also by weat­her con­di­ti­ons and the cha­rac­te­ris­tics of the surface.

Ani­mals with hooves cre­a­te dis­tinct prints in the sha­pe of a line, wider at the back and tape­ring towards the front. The­se prints are often deep and lea­ve a cha­rac­te­ris­tic sha­pe on the ground. Ani­mals with paws make small prints with toes and pro­mi­nent pads. They are sym­met­ri­cal and can reve­al the size and weight of the ani­mal, as well as its mode of move­ment. Footp­rints are espe­cial­ly pro­noun­ced in the snow.
