Samec má výraz­né sfar­be­nie, ich sprá­va­nie je pomer­ne bojov­né, naj­mä medzi sam­ca­mi. Pre­to sa odpo­rú­ča cho­vať iba jed­né­ho sam­ca v akvá­riu. Špe­ci­fic­ké je, že majú schop­nosť dýchať atmo­sfé­ric­ký kys­lík. Pre chov je nut­né, aby akvá­ri­um bolo dosta­toč­ne veľ­ké, aby rájov­ce mali úkry­ty a aby v akvá­riu bola buj­ná vege­tá­cia. Na para­met­re vody sú pomer­ne nená­roč­né, ale pre­fe­ru­jú mier­ne kys­lú a mäk­kú vodu. Je vhod­ná pre stred­ne pokro­či­lých akva­ris­tov.
