Heteropody sú nenáročné krevety. Pôvodne bol tento druh popísaný pod názvom N. denticulata sinensis. Má množstvo foriem, napr.: cherry, red, wild, red cherry, yellow, red fire.

Heteropoden sind anspruchslose Garnelen. Ursprünglich wurde diese Art unter dem Namen N. denticulata sinensis beschrieben. Sie hat viele Formen, wie zum Beispiel Kirsch-, Rot-, Wild-, Rotkirsch-, Gelb- und Rotfeuer-Garnelen.
Slovenské synonymum je závojnatka. Druh pochádzajúci z juhovýchodnej Ázie. Existuje množstvo foriem, závojnatých, zlatých, červených, atď. Rozmnožovanie karasov je pomerne divoká záležitosť. Množstvo ikier je veľmi veľké, môže dosahovať aj 5000 kusov. Karasy sa šľachtili už v stredovekej Čine, možno aj v staroveku. Karas je ryba, ktorá je väčšieho vzrastu, závojnatky sú menšie formy, ale i závojnatku môžeme zaradiť medzi veľké ryby. Závojnatky značne bagrujú dno, rastliny často vytrhávajú. Preto by som odporúčal chovať ich buď v nádrži bez rastlín, alebo s pevne upevnenými rastlinami o veľké kamene alebo inú dekoráciu. Prípadne by som sa orientoval na skôr na pevnejšie druhy ako napr. Echinodorus, Anubias, Cryptocoryne. Neodporúčam najmä karasy chovať spolu s inými druhmi rýb. Ich látková premena prebiehajúca v tráviacej sústave vôbec nie je dokonalá a tieto vyvrhnuté produkty sú pomerne jedovaté pre iné druhy rýb. To je aj dôvod na to, aby sme počítali na jedného jedinca viac litrov vody, aby sme zabezpečili dobrú filtráciunádrže. Prešľachtené zlaté karasy – Carassius auratus auratus.
