Správajú sa podobne ako mečovky, samci medzi sebou súperia, ale sú o dosť pokojnejšie ako Xiphophorus helleri. Ich chov je trošku náročnejší, ide predsa o taxón neprešľachtený. Nemajú ani taký veľký apetít, čiže ani odpadu toľko netvoria. Samce majú predĺženú dolnú plutvu, pripomínajúcu meč, čo je charakteristický znak tohto druhu. Sú vhodné pre spoločenské akvárium aj pre svoju pomerne pokojnú povahu. Registrujem tieto formy: El Salto, Ocampo.

They behave similarly to swordtails; males compete among themselves but are considerably more peaceful than Xiphophorus helleri. Their breeding requires a bit more attention, as they belong to an unaltered taxon. They don’t have as big of an appetite, so they produce less waste. Males have an elongated lower fin resembling a sword, which is a characteristic feature of this species. They are suitable for a community aquarium due to their relatively calm nature.
