Počúvadlo – tajch neďaleko Banskej Štiavnice

Hits: 3352

Na stavbe pracovali hlavne haviari, murári, nádenníci, vylievači vody, vrátkari, chlapci so svetlom, furmani a dozorcovia.

Počúvadlo – Pockhauser Teich (banskastiavnica.sk) is located in the Štiavnické Vrchy (Štiavnica Mountains) and was created in 1775 by Jozef Karol Hell for the needs of mining and ore-dressing facilities. It is part of the World Cultural Heritage site. It consists of up to five dams and has the most extensive system of collection ditches. Sitniansky alone measures up to 4630 meters, and others include Dolný Počúvadelský, Horný Počúvadelský, Počúvadelský, and Tatársky. The maximum depth of the reservoir is 10.8 meters. Currently, Počúvadlo serves recreational purposes (pocuvadlo.sk). Its area is 12.3 hectares. Until the 19th century, Počúvadlo held the European record for the dam’s height, reaching 29.6 meters (banskastiavnica.sk). The volume of the water reservoir in 1855 was 745,300 m3 (banskastiavnica.sk). The Viennese Court Chamber approved its implementation with costs of 71,485 florins and 30 grajciars at the beginning of 1775 due to a lack of water for pumping and hauling machines but primarily for ore-dressing facilities – ore chutes (banskastiavnica.sk).

Mainly miners, masons, day laborers, water casters, gatekeepers, boys with lights, teamsters, and overseers worked on the construction. Interestingly, women predominated among the workers. The construction was completed on May 26, 1779, with costs totaling 106,322 florins and 56 grajciars, exceeding the budget due to accidents. Water from the reservoir was released through a gallery under the dam on the northern side of the reservoir. In case of need, water could be diverted from the feed ditch to the Dekýšska Valley in the area known as „Čertova záhrada,“ where 16 water mills were still functional in 1925. Through feeder ditches, it was possible to transport around 2,000,000 m3 of water in favorable years. The discharge facility on the outlet adit is currently non-functional (banskastiavnica.sk).

Neziderské jazero

Hits: 5789

Neusiedler See je známe jazero v Dolnom Rakúsku.

Už v roku 1927 bolo v Neusiedli am See kúpalisko. Ponúka rôzne možnosti . Okrem iného surfovanie, jachting (neusiedlamsee.at). V rokoch 1811 – 1813 čiastočne a v 1867 – 1871 jazero úplne vyschlo (Reichwalder, Jablonský, 2003). Miesta a kúpanie a prístavy sú: Illmitz, Podersdorf am See, Weiden am See, Neusiedl am See, Jois, Breitenbrunn, Purbach am Neusiedler See, Oggau am Neusiedler See, Rust, Mörbisch am See v Rakúsku a Fertőrákos v Maďarsku. Prítok do jazera je z 80 % z podzemným prameňov. 20 % privádza rieka Wulka (wikipedia.sk).

Je domovom mnohých vzácnych zvierat a stoviek druhov vtáctva. Na rakúskej strane je oblasť rezerváciou biosféry „Neziderske jazero – Seewinkel“ (neusiedlamsee.at). V jazere žije okolo 30 druhov rýb a v ňom a v okolí hniezdi viac ako 300 druhov vtáctva (mojerakusko.sk). 140 druhov tu hniezdi (info-tour.info). Neziderské jazero patrí k najvýznamnejším oblastiam chráneného vtáctva v Európe. Nachádza sa tu viacero pozorovateľní (Alena Motyčková). Okolo celého jazera je vybudovaná sieť cyklotrás. Celá trasa okolo jazera má 132 km (cestovanie.sme.sk).

Neusiedler See is a well-known lake in Lower Austria, extending into Hungary in its southern part. It is a destination for many cycling trips, including those from Slovakia. Conditions for cycling are also created around the lake itself. Its Slovak name is Neziderské jazero.

It is also referred to as the Sea of Vienna and is a remnant of the Tethys. As early as 1927, there was a beach in Neusiedl am See. It offers various recreational opportunities, including surfing, yachting (neusiedlamsee.at). The Hungarian name for the lake is Fertö tó. Neusiedler See is a shallow, endorheic, slightly saline lake on the border of Austria and Hungary, with a maximum depth of 2 meters. Along with Lake Balaton, it is one of the only steppe lakes in Europe. Since 2001, Neusiedler See has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site (wikipedia.sk).

Approximately 20 million years ago, the region experienced subsidence, giving rise to the Pannonian Basin. The subsided areas connected with the system of Tethys basins filled with seawater. After the sea level dropped about 11 million years ago, the Pannonian Basin became a saline brackish lake, often referred to as the Pannonian Lake. In 1811-1813 and 1867-1871, the lake partially or completely dried up (Reichwalder, Jablonský, 2003). The lake covers an area of about 315 km2, with a length of 36 km and a width ranging from 6 to 12 km. The northern third is called Neusiedler Bucht, the narrower middle part is Illmitzer Seeenge, and the lower southern part is Silbesee. The lake is almost entirely surrounded by a reed belt, creating a unique environment. It freezes occasionally to the bottom in winter. Illmitz, Podersdorf am See, Weiden am See, Neusiedl am See, Jois, Breitenbrunn, Purbach am Neusiedler See, Oggau am Neusiedler See, Rust, Mörbisch am See in Austria, and Fertőrákos in Hungary are bathing and harbor locations. 80% of the water inflow into the lake comes from underground springs, while 20% is supplied by the Wulka River (wikipedia.sk).

It is home to many rare animals and hundreds of bird species. On the Austrian side, the area is a biosphere reserve called „Neusiedler See – Seewinkel“ (neusiedlamsee.at). Around 30 fish species inhabit the lake, and more than 300 bird species nest in and around it (mojerakusko.sk). It is home to 140 nesting species (info-tour.info). Neusiedler See is one of the most significant bird conservation areas in Europe, with several observation points (Alena Motyčková). A network of cycling trails is built around the entire lake, with a total distance of 132 km (cestovanie.sme.sk).

Kriaky a bodľačie.

Calvary is the most imposing Baroque calvary in Central Europe, also one of the oldest calvaries in Slovakia. Since 1993, it has been part of the territory along with the historic town of Banská Štiavnica, inscribed on the UNESCO World Cultural and Natural Heritage List. Since June 2007, it has been listed among the 100 most endangered monuments in the world. Chapels and churches of the Calvary include: Jesus Bids Farewell to His Mother, Devil Tempts Jesus, Jesus Washes the Apostles‘ Feet, Chapel of the Divine Heart, Last Supper, Sorrowful Heart of Virgin Mary, Jesus on the Mount of Olives, Chapel of the Holy Stairs, Judas‘ Betrayal, Condemnation of Jesus, Jesus Before Herod, Flagellation of Jesus, Chapel of Ecce Homo, Jesus Takes Up His Cross, Jesus Nailed to the Cross, Upper Church – Christ on the Cross, Holy Sepulcher, Circumcision of the Lord, Flight into Egypt, Twelve-Year-Old Jesus in the Temple, Jesus Meets His Mother, Virgin Mary Beneath the Cross, Jesus‘ Body in His Mother’s Lap, Burial of Jesus (kalvaria.org). It is presumed that Samuel Mikovínyi was the architect behind the design (nomad.sk).

The Calvary is located northeast of the city center. According to an information board, the calvary represents Baroque sacral architecture, sculpture, visual arts, and crafts. The initiative for its construction came from Father František Perger in the 18th century, a member of the local community of the Society of Jesus, who built the Stations of the Cross on Scharffenberg Hill. The foundation stone was laid on September 14, 1744. The complex consists of 17 chapels, three churches, the Lamentation, and the Holy Sepulcher (Information Board). The calvary is unique in its liturgical conception, not copying the traditional model of the 14 Stations of the Cross but combining scenes from the lives of Jesus and the Virgin Mary. The main objects are symmetrically arranged on a slope facing the city. The chapels are connected by winding paths with wooden reliefs, and the interiors of the churches are decorated with wall paintings attributed to the Austrian painter Anton Schmidt (Bujnová et al., 2003).

Part of the artistic decoration and furniture of one of the most valuable Baroque monuments in Slovakia was stolen, and some became the target of vandals. Local activists played a crucial role in including Calvary in the list of the 100 most endangered monuments in the world (Information Board). The Calvary was restored in the late 1970s and early 1980s (Bujnová et al., 2003). The Štiavnica Calvary came into being when Father František Perger from the Jesuit monastery in Banská Štiavnica wanted to buy Scharffenberg from the wealthy miner Leopold Andrej Fritz of Friedenlieb. Fritz found it odd that someone would want such a worthless place with thorns and prickles. Only after persistent insistence did Father reveal his intention to build a Calvary on the top. Fritz decided not to sell Scharffenberg for such a purpose but to donate it, „as long as it serves for the honor of God“ (according to Hidvéghy).

Svätý Anton

Hits: 6513

K obci usadlosti Rovne, Bažania a Macko. Prvá písomná zmienka o obci je z roku 1266. Názov vychádza z názvu pôvodného kostola zasväteného svätému Antonovi Pustovníkovi. Historické názvy obce: Scentantollo, Sanctus Antonius, Zenthantal, Swätý Antal, Antol. Maďarský názov je Szenantal. Obyvatelia sa živili prevažne baníctvom, hutníctvom, lesníctvom, v kameňolome a v priemyselných podnikoch v Banskej Štiavnici. V polovici 20. storočia je známa výroba vyrezávaných a maľovaných betlehemov. V 17. storočí získal panstvo Peter Koháry. Rodina Koháryovcov sa zaslúžila o rozvoj Svätého Antona. Od roku 1826 patrila obec Coburgovcom. Ferdinand Coburg, brat posledného vlastníka kaštieľa, navštevoval obec až do roku 1944. Známym rodákom bol slovenský herec, divadelný režisér a scénický výtvarník Karol Zachar, vlastným menom Karol Legény (wikipedia.sk).

Vo Svätom Antone sa nachádza kaštieľ s parkom. Je národnou kultúrnou pamiatkou. Štyri krídla symbolizujú štyri ročné obdobia, 12 komínov mesiace, 52 izieb týždne a 365 okien, dni v roku. Dnes je sídlom Lesníckeho, drevárskeho a poľnohospodárskeho múzea s mnohými zbraňami a trofejami. Každoročne začiatkom septembra sa v kaštieli usporadúvajú atraktívne poľovnícke – Dni sv. Huberta (SACR).

Dali ho postaviť na začiatku 18. storočia vlastníci panstva Sitno, Koháryovci (Bujnová et all, 2003). Svoje letné sídlo tu mal bulharský cár Ferdinand Coburg, patril do Sitnianskeho panstva Koháryovcov (Terem). Dovŕšil šťastnú tradíciu osvietených, rozhľadených a ctižiadostivých majiteľov, ktorí zveľaďovali majetky a zariadili ich vkusne (Bujnová et all, 2003).

V parku a priľahlom lesoparku sa nachádza napr. Ginkgo biloba, Abies pinsapo, Pseudotsuga mensiessi, Pinus jeffreyi, Catalpa bignonioides, Chamaecyparis pisifera, Picea pungens virgata, Lilium martagon, Iris graminea, Drosera rotundifolia, Pulsatilla grandis, Crocus heuffelianus.

St. Anthony, formerly known as Antol, is located just a short distance from . It features a castle with a beautiful park.

The village includes the settlements of Rovne, Bažania, and Macko. The first written mention of the village dates back to 1266. The village’s name comes from the original church dedicated to Saint Anthony the Hermit. Historical names of the village include Scentantollo, Sanctus Antonius, Zenthantal, Swätý Antal, Antol. The Hungarian name is Szenantal. The residents were mainly engaged in mining, metallurgy, forestry, quarrying, and industrial enterprises in Banská Štiavnica. In the mid-20th century, the production of carved and painted nativity scenes became known. In the 17th century, the Koháry family acquired the estate. The Kohárys contributed to the development of St. Anthony. From 1826, the village belonged to the Coburgs. Ferdinand Coburg, the brother of the last owner of the castle, visited the village until 1944. A notable native of the village was the Slovak actor, theater director, and set designer Karol Zachar, whose real name was Karol Legény (wikipedia.sk).

In St. Anthony, there is a castle with a park, now a national cultural monument. The four wings of the building symbolize the four seasons, 12 chimneys represent the months, 52 rooms signify the weeks, and 365 windows stand for the days in a year. Today, it houses the Forestry, Woodcraft, and Agricultural Museum with numerous weapons and trophies. Every year, at the beginning of September, the castle hosts attractive hunting festivities – St. Hubert’s Days (SACR). The baroque castle was built on the site of a former fortress and was classicized in the early 19th century (wikipedia.sk).

The Hunting Exhibition is the only specialized one with nationwide scope. Hunting was first taught in Banská Štiavnica in 1808 (geopark.sk). It is the largest of its kind in Slovakia. The castle corridors showcase more than a thousand game trophies (msa.sk). Preceding the Baroque-classical castle in St. Anthony was a smaller fortified castle mentioned in the 15th century. In the 16th century, it was rebuilt to protect Banská Štiavnica from Turkish invasions (geopark.sk). The castle is also referred to as Antol Castle or Koháry Castle. It is the seat of the Forestry, Woodcraft, and Hunting Museum (Wikipedia). It was built at the beginning of the 18th century by the owners of the Sitno estate, the Kohárys (Bujnová et all, 2003). The Bulgarian tsar Ferdinand Coburg, belonging to the Sitno estate of the Kohárys, had his summer residence here. In 1826, the only daughter of the last male descendant of the Koháry family married Ferdinand Georg of Saxe-Coburg. The last of the Coburgs who lived in the castle was the versatile Ferdinand Coburg, the Bulgarian tsar from 1908 to 1918. He continued the happy tradition of enlightened, knowledgeable, and ambitious owners who improved their properties tastefully (Bujnová et all, 2003).

In the park, a giant sequoia (Sequoiadendron giganteum) was planted by Filip Coburg in 1878, but it dried up by 1995. Another sequoia was planted in 1996. The surroundings are rich in protected species, including many endemics. In the park and the adjacent forest park, species such as Ginkgo biloba, Abies pinsapo, Pseudotsuga mensiesii, Pinus jeffreyi, Catalpa bignonioides, Chamaecyparis pisifera, Picea pungens virgata, Lilium martagon, Iris graminea, Drosera rotundifolia, Pulsatilla grandis, Crocus heuffelianus can be found. The rare occurrence of natural roses, described by Andrej Kmeť, who worked here in the 19th century, is also present, with almost 300 cultivars (Source: Information board). The area includes a historical park (5 ha) and a forest park (25 ha). The upper and lower ponds are connected by cascades and waterfalls, fed by a several-kilometer-long millrace from the Koplašský stream with unique aqueducts. In the park, there is also a grotto – an artificially created cave, a well with stone benches, wooden bridges, gazebos, and the Chapel of St. Hubert (geopark.sk).

The Museum in St. Anthony typically organizes the All-Slovak Hunting Festivities, St. Hubert’s Days, at the beginning of September over the weekend (banskastiavnica.sk).
