Pseudotropheus elongatus

Elongatusy sú endemitom jazera . Synonymá: Nanochromis gabonuicus, Parananochromis brevirostris, Paranochromis ornatus, Paranaochromis axelrodi, Pelmatochromis caudifasciatus, Pelmatochromis longirostris. V rámci druhu Pseudotropheus elongatus je ustanovený komplex – druhová skupina, do ktorej okrem pravého P. elongatus patrí ešte ďalších 5 druhov: P. ater, P. cyaneus, P. flavus, P. longior, P. modestus a množstvo foriem. Registrujem tieto formy Pseudotropheus elongatus: aggressive, aggressive Mumbo, aggressive Nakathenga, bar, bee, Boadzulu, brown, deep water, deep water Mbamba, gold bar, gold bar Kuyu, gold bar Likoma, greenback, Hai, Chailosi, Chewere, Chipoka, Chisumulu, Chitimba, Kirondo, Luhuchi, Mara, Masimbwe, Mbako, Mbamba, Mbenji blue, Mbenji brown, Metangula, Mozambique brown, mpanga, Namalenje, Ndumbi, Ngkuyo, Nkhata blue, Nkhata brown, ornatus, ornatus Chuwa, reef, robust, Ruarwe, slab, spot, spot Tundu rocks, zaiwan, Usisya, yellow tail.

V prirodzenom prostredí obýva spoločenstvá so skalnatým dnom. Preferuje oblasti s množstvom skál, jaskýň a úkrytov (seriouslyfish.com). V prírode sa živí prevažne riasami, vláknitými riasami a drobnou vegetáciou či mikroorganizmami (fishi-pedia.com). ph by malo dosahovať hodnoty 7.8–8.5, by mala byť medzi 24–26 °C (aqua-fish.net), tvrdosť 10 – 20 dGH (seriouslyfish.com).

P. elongatus is endemic to Lake Malawi. Synonyms include: Nanochromis gabonuicus, Parananochromis brevirostris, Paranochromis ornatus, Paranaochromis axelrodi, Pelmatochromis caudifasciatus, Pelmatochromis longirostris. Within Pseudotropheus elongatus, a species complex is established – a group that, besides the true P. elongatus, also contains five additional species: P. ater, P. cyaneus, P. flavus, P. longior, P. modestus, as well as a large number of forms.

“Mpanga fish” are a form of Pseudotropheus elongatus, which is perhaps the most diverse taxonomic species of the group, producing an impressive number of forms, one of them being P. e. mpanga. During male courtship displays, the male becomes highly contrasting in coloration. In this state he is stunning, and when he begins displaying to the female, it is remarkable. Females of the mpanga forms remain very small, and males are not much larger. Young females hold their broods even at a very early age. Other species usually pay very little attention to mpanga forms. Both sexes behave rather shyly, especially the males, which rarely show themselves in the front parts of the aquarium.

Registered forms of Pseudotropheus elongatus include: aggressive, aggressive Mumbo, aggressive Nakathenga, bar, bee, Boadzulu, brown, deep water, deep water Mbamba, gold bar, gold bar Kuyu, gold bar Likoma, greenback, Hai, Chailosi, Chewere, Chipoka, Chisumulu, Chitimba, Kirondo, Luhuchi, Mara, Masimbwe, Mbako, Mbamba, Mbenji blue, Mbenji brown, Metangula, Mozambique brown, mpanga, Namalenje, Ndumbi, Ngkuyo, Nkhata blue, Nkhata brown, ornatus, ornatus Chuwa, reef, robust, Ruarwe, slab, spot, spot Tundu rocks, zaiwan, Usisya, yellow tail.

Pseudotropheus elongatus reaches approximately 9.5 cm in the wild (Wikipedia). Adult males grow to 10–12 cm, females to 6–8 cm. Males show intense coloration during courtship, often with a dark blue or black base and yellow or orange lappets on the fins (Konings, 2007). The species is also listed under the synonym Chindongo elongatus (aquariumglaser.de).

In its natural habitat, it inhabits rocky substrates, preferring areas with large amounts of stones, caves, and hiding spaces (seriouslyfish.com). It is known mainly from rocky coastal areas of Lake Malawi, such as Mbamba Bay and Nkhata/Mkata Bay (de.wikipedia.org). Its natural diet consists mainly of algae, filamentous algae, and small vegetation or microorganisms (fishi-pedia.com). Water parameters: pH 7.8–8.5, temperature 24–26 °C (aqua-fish.net), hardness 10–20 dGH (seriouslyfish.com).

The species is territorial and can be aggressive, especially males towards each other. A ratio of one male to three to five females is recommended (aquariacentral.com). It is a maternal mouthbrooder, producing 20–40 fry per spawn (akvarko.cz). Females are capable of reproduction at a very young age (Ribbink et al., 1983).

Arten der Gattung Pseudotropheus: ater, aurora, barlowi, crabro, cyaneus, demasoni, elegans, elongatus, fainzilberi, flavus, fuscoides, fuscus, hajomaylandi, lanisticola, livingstonii, lombardoi, longior, lucerna, macrophthalmus, microstoma, minutus, modestus, novemfasciatus, purpuratus, saulosi, socolofi, tropheops gracilior, tropheops romandi, tropheops tropheops, tursiops, williamsi, zebra.

P. elongatus ist ein Endemit des Malawisees. Synonyme: Nanochromis gabonuicus, Parananochromis brevirostris, Paranochromis ornatus, Paranaochromis axelrodi, Pelmatochromis caudifasciatus, Pelmatochromis longirostris.

Registrierte Formen von Pseudotropheus elongatus sind: aggressive, aggressive Mumbo, aggressive Nakathenga, bar, bee, Boadzulu, brown, deep water, deep water Mbamba, gold bar, gold bar Kuyu, gold bar Likoma, greenback, Hai, Chailosi, Chewere, Chipoka, Chisumulu, Chitimba, Kirondo, Luhuchi, Mara, Masimbwe, Mbako, Mbamba, Mbenji blue, Mbenji brown, Metangula, Mozambique brown, mpanga, Namalenje, Ndumbi, Ngkuyo, Nkhata blue, Nkhata brown, ornatus, ornatus Chuwa, reef, robust, Ruarwe, slab, spot, spot Tundu rocks, zaiwan, Usisya, yellow tail.

Ninarekodi maumbo yafuatayo ya Pseudotropheus elongatus: aggressive, aggressive Mumbo, aggressive Nakathenga, bar, bee, Boadzulu, brown, deep water, deep water Mbamba, gold bar, gold bar Kuyu, gold bar Likoma, greenback, Hai, Chailosi, Chewere, Chipoka, Chisumulu, Chitimba, Kirondo, Luhuchi, Mara, Masimbwe, Mbako, Mbamba, Mbenji blue, Mbenji brown, Metangula, Mozambique brown, mpanga, Namalenje, Ndumbi, Ngkuyo, Nkhata blue, Nkhata brown, ornatus, ornatus Chuwa, reef, robust, Ruarwe, slab, spot, spot Tundu rocks, zaiwan, Usisya, yellow tail.

Pseudotropheus elongatus hufikia takribani sentimita 9.5 porini (Wikipedia). Madume watu wazima hufikia sentimita 10–12, majike sentimita 6–8.

Hits: 480

Hemichromis bimaculatus, anglicky Jewel cichlid, patrí medzi najpestrejšie farebné sladkovodné . Jej žiarivo červené sfarbenie posiate trblietavými modrými bodkami z nej robí neprehliadnuteľný druh, no zároveň ide o rybu s výnimočne silným teritoriálnym správaním a výrazným reprodukčným inštinktom. Pochádza zo západnej Afriky, predovšetkým z Guiney, Libérie, Sierry Leone a Pobrežia Slonoviny, kde obýva pomaly tečúce , močiare a zaplavené oblasti s bohatou vegetáciou a množstvom úkrytov (Loiselle, 1979). Uprednostňuje mäkké až mierne tvrdé s teplotou medzi 24–28 °C a pH okolo 6,0–7,5. Farba tela sa mení podľa nálady, fázy rozmnožovania a sociálneho postavenia, pričom v období trenia nadobúda ryba intenzívne červený až karmínový odtieň (Stiassny & Jensen, 1987).

Akvárium by malo mať objem minimálne 150 litrov, s množstvom úkrytov z kameňov, koreňov a rastlín.

Hemichromis bimaculatus, commonly known as the Jewel cichlid, is one of the most colorful freshwater fish species. Its bright red coloration adorned with sparkling blue spots makes it unmistakable, while also being a fish with exceptionally strong territorial behavior and pronounced reproductive instincts. It originates from West Africa, particularly Guinea, Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Ivory Coast, where it inhabits slow-flowing rivers, swamps, and flooded areas rich in vegetation and hiding places (Loiselle, 1979). It prefers soft to moderately hard water with a temperature between 24–28 °C and pH around 6.0–7.5. In nature, it hides in shaded areas among roots, aquatic plants, or fallen branches. This species has an extraordinarily strong sense of territory and often defends its space even against significantly larger species. Adults grow to about 10–12 cm, with males generally being slightly larger and more robust than females. A typical feature of the species is two to three dark spots – behind the gill cover and in the middle of the body. Body coloration varies based on mood, spawning phase, and social status, and during breeding, the fish turns intensely red to crimson (Stiassny & Jensen, 1987).

Hemichromis bimaculatus is known for its pronounced territorial and aggressive behavior, especially during breeding. In aquariums, it is recommended to keep this species in a separate tank or with robust species that can withstand its dominance. The tank should have a volume of at least 150 liters, with plenty of hiding places made of rocks, roots, and plants. It is important to include visual barriers to reduce stress from direct encounters (Baensch & Riehl, 1997). During spawning, they choose a flat stone, root, or aquarium wall where the female lays the eggs and the male fertilizes them. The pair aggressively guards the eggs and fry, showing intense defensive behavior toward other fish (Goldstein, 1973). They reach sexual maturity at about 6–7 cm, and the female can lay 300–500 eggs, which hatch in 48–72 hours, depending on water temperature.

In nature, Hemichromis bimaculatus feeds mainly on insects, larvae, small fish, and invertebrates, making it an opportunistic predator. In aquariums, it accepts a wide range of foods – from flakes and granules to frozen and live foods such as daphnia, brine shrimp, or chopped fish meat. To maintain its vivid colors, it’s recommended to include carotenoid-rich ingredients (e.g., spirulina, shrimp).

Melanochromis cyaneorhabdos – Melanochromis cf. maingano

Hits: 13751

Dospelé jedince dorastajú do veľkosti približne 6–8 cm, pričom v prírodnom prostredí sa zdržiavajú v skalnatých oblastiach, kde si vytvárajú vlastné teritóriá medzi skalnatými prasklinami (Konings, 2007). V prirodzenom prostredí preferuje kryté s dostatkom úkrytov, pričom sa zdržuje v hĺbke 1–15 metrov. Ide o druh so silným teritoriálnym inštinktom, najmä u dominantných jedincov.

The body of this fish is elongated, laterally compressed, and its typical feature is longitudinal blue stripes on a dark blue to black background. This contrasting coloration provides not only aesthetic value in the aquarium but also a function in the wild – for hierarchical communication and territorial defense (Barlow, 2000). Adult individuals reach a size of approximately 6–8 cm and, in their natural habitat, stay in rocky areas where they create their own territories among rock crevices (Konings, 2007). In the wild, they prefer sheltered biotopes with sufficient hiding places, typically staying at depths of 1–15 meters. This species has a strong territorial instinct, especially in dominant individuals. In aquarium conditions, it is advisable to provide plenty of hiding spots and a structured rocky terrain to reduce aggression among individuals (Ribbink et al., 1983). Water temperature should range between 24–28 °C, pH between 7.5–8.5, and the overall water hardness should be high, as it comes from the alkaline environment of Lake Malawi (Stauffer et al., 1995).

Melanochromis cyaneorhabdos is an endemic species of cichlid from Lake Malawi, specifically from the area around Likoma Island (Konings, 2016). This African cichlid belongs to the Mbuna group, known for its territorial behavior, vibrant coloration, and complex social dynamics.

Melanochromis cyaneorhabdos feeds on algae and microorganisms from rocky surfaces in the wild. In the aquarium, it accepts flake foods, spirulina, and frozen food, but it is not advisable to feed it exclusively animal-based food, as this may lead to digestive problems (Konings, 2007). The ideal setup for this species is a species-specific or specialized Mbuna aquarium with a sufficiently large volume (from 150 liters up) and strong filtration. In a community aquarium, it is recommended to keep multiple females per male to reduce stress and aggression. Although this is a relatively small species, its temperament can cause conflicts with less dominant fish (Loiselle, 1979).

This species of African cichlid is sold under the name „Maingano“. The Latin synonym for Melanochromis cyaneorhabdos is Melanochromis cf. maingano. The male’s coloration is quite similar to that of the Melanochromis johannii male. However, sexual dimorphism is not as pronounced in this species. As adults, the female is only slightly less intensely colored than the male. The sexes differ in body shape: the female is usually significantly smaller. In any case, the male has a more robust body, while the female is more oval and slimmer toward the tail. The female is a very reliable mother and readily carries the fry. However, there are various color forms that differ significantly from one another.

Birds of prey, or raptors, are characterized as groups of birds that exhibit hunting behavior and possess the ability to capture other animals. They have distinctive sharp talons and strong beaks adapted for catching and processing the meat of their prey. Their excellent vision and flying abilities enable them to efficiently hunt in the air, preying on other birds, small mammals, reptiles, etc. Many species of birds of prey establish territories that they aggressively defend against other raptors. These territories include areas for nesting and hunting. Nesting among birds of prey can occur on cliffs, trees, or even on artificial structures such as electrical poles.

Birds of prey are typically solitary, meaning they spend most of their time alone. However, some species can be social and form groups, especially during migration or hunting. Some species of birds of prey are endangered and face various threats, including habitat loss, persecution, and poisoning from agricultural pesticides.

In culture, birds of prey carry various symbolic meanings, representing strength, courage, and natural instincts. Throughout history, they frequently appear in myths, legends, and heraldry. Birds of prey play a crucial role in ecosystems by regulating the populations of other species they prey upon. Their unique adaptations for a predatory lifestyle make them some of the most remarkable and biologically fascinating birds.

Neolamprologus leleupi – papuľnaté lelupky

Hits: 10450

Neolamprologus leleupi is an endemic species of Lake Tanganyika. They are also known as Leleupi Cichlids. They have characteristic coloring, ranging from light yellow to intense orange, with narrow heads and long bodies, allowing them to maneuver quickly among the rocky reefs of their natural environment. In the wild, they inhabit rocky areas of Lake Tanganyika. They are territorial and aggressive fish, defending their territories from other individuals of their species. It is recommended to keep them only with species capable of defending themselves. In the wild, pairs are often found in rock crevices or under large stones. They are relatively hardy and can adapt to various water conditions, being omnivorous fish. Individuals of this species are able to stretch their mouths incredibly wide – perhaps up to 160°. They look truly intimidating then, capable of intimidating even much larger opponents. Intraspecies fights often occur, sometimes resulting in the death of the weaker individual. They are hostile to each other in adulthood. For breeding, they require peace and a firm substrate. There are various forms, such as lemon-yellow to dark brown: bulu, kapampa, karilani, kakese, kiku, lumbye, maswa, milima, mtoto, orange, tembwe, uvira.

Neolamprologus leleupi stands out with its slender and streamlined body, which allows for swift movements, especially among rocks and hiding places. This makes them ideal for maneuvering in tight spaces. They can exhibit slight color variations depending on their place of origin or aquarium conditions. Known for their territorial behavior, these fish establish and defend their territories, with aggression increasing particularly during mating and spawning periods. They require ample space and plenty of hiding spots to feel secure.

Leleupi prefer alkaline water with a pH between 7.5 and 9.0, and the water temperature should range between 24 °C and 27 °C. High-quality filtration is crucial, as these fish are sensitive to changes in water chemistry. In their natural habitat, they feed on various types of small animals such as tiny crustaceans, mollusks, and insects. These fish prefer spawning in enclosed spaces, such as rock crevices or caves. The female lays eggs on solid surfaces, and she then cares for them. Both parents guard their offspring. Once hatched, the fry begin feeding on small plankton and other fine foods.

Kuna aina mbalimbali, kama vile manjano hadi kahawia kali: bulu, kapampa, karilani, kakese, kiku, lumbye, maswa, milima, mtoto, orange, tembwe, uvira.
