In winter, the Váh River undergoes a remarkable transformation, especially during severe cold spells. Plunging temperatures below freezing lead to the river’s freezing. When the banks are covered in snow simultaneously, the scene becomes even more enchanting. Occasionally, the Váh freezes to an extent that allows for ice skating. In such winters, the Váh minimizes itself to a commonplace in art, turning into a different natural theater that captivates with a unique atmosphere and showcases the beauty and life even in the chilly months.
Drahovská Dam is located near the village of Drahovce, approximately 5 km from Starý most (Old Bridge). Primarily in the summer, it is part of the Kolokruh circuit. The circuit, which goes around Starý most, through Drahovská Dam, and back, is approximately 11 km. This circuit can be completed on a bicycle or rollerblades. Outside the summer season, the dam is not accessible to the public. It is quite interesting to stroll just above the water level and see the flow of water.
Construction work on the Drahovce – Madunice waterworks began in 1956. A seven-year trial operation started in 1960. The Sĺňava reservoir also serves for the intake of cooling water for the nuclear power plant in Jaslovské Bohunice (Igor Paulech, Peter Sedláčik).
