Tho­richt­hys elli­oti Meek, 1904 je juho­ame­ric­kou cich­li­dou dosa­hu­jú­cou 15 cm, v pH 78.5, dH 8 a viac, v tep­lo­te 2528°C, vysky­tu­je sa v Mexi­ku, v povo­dí Rio Papa­lo­apán (Fish Base), v rie­kach ste­ka­jú­cích do Atlan­tic­ké­ho oce­ánu. Rodo­vé meno je zlo­že­né zo slov Thor“ (lovia­ca) a Icht­hys“ (ryba). Dru­ho­vé meno elli­oti“ je po ame­ric­kom prí­ro­do­ved­co­vi, Danie­lo­vi Girau­do­vi Elli­oto­vi (akva​ris​ta​.cz). Je zná­ma aj pod náz­va­mi Elli­oto­va cich­li­da” ale­bo Fire­mouth cich­lid”. Samec má cha­rak­te­ris­tic­ký vzhľad s ohni­vým čer­ve­ným sfar­be­ním na dol­nej čas­ti hla­vy a hrd­la. Táto čer­ve­ná oblasť pri­po­mí­na otvo­re­ný oheň, čo dalo dru­hu jeho anglic­ký názov Fire­mouth cich­lid”. Sami­ce sú obvyk­le menej fareb­né. The gene­ric name is com­po­sed of the words Thor” (hun­ter) and Icht­hys” (fish). The spe­ci­fic name elli­oti” is named after the Ame­ri­can natu­ra­list Daniel Giraud Elli­ot (akva​ris​ta​.cz). It is also kno­wn as Elli­ot’s cich­lid” or Fire­mouth cich­lid”. The male has a dis­tinc­ti­ve appe­a­ran­ce with fie­ry red colo­ra­ti­on on the lower part of the head and thro­at. This red area resem­bles an open fla­me, giving the spe­cies its English name Fire­mouth cich­lid”. Fema­les are usu­al­ly less color­ful. It has an agg­res­si­ve natu­re, espe­cial­ly during the bre­e­ding peri­od. During this time, the male guards the ter­ri­to­ry and is very pro­tec­ti­ve of its offspring.
