The complex includes the Malawi Aquarium, Castle Greenhouse, Hunting Lodge, Minaret, Apollo Temple, Fishpond Chateau, New Court, Border Chateau, Temple of the Three Graces, John’s Castle, Obelisk, Rendezvous (unesco-czech.cz), Grotto – artificial cave, Aqueduct and Romantic Cave, the New Court agricultural building, the sculpture of the Greek goddesses Three Graces, St. Hubert’s Chapel, Diana’s Temple (Rendezvous), Belvedere, the Valtice Castle located 8 km away, the Wine Salon, and the Colonnade – Reistna (zamek-lednice.cz).

The first written mention of Lednice (Izgruobi) dates back to 1222 (unesco-czech.cz). Since 1996, Lednice has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site (lednice.cz). The castle’s current appearance is the result of a neo-Gothic reconstruction in the Gothic style between 1846 and 1858. Some Baroque walls were preserved. Noteworthy features include a spiral staircase in the library, a coffered ceiling made of linden wood in the Blue Hall, a tree of life relief carved from ivory, and marble fireplaces (unesco-czech.cz). The Lednice Castle is situated in the village of Lednice on the right bank of the Dyje River. It is one of the most beautiful heritage complexes in the Czech Republic. In 1996, it was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List (Martina Haratíková). The Lednice Castle is an architectural gem that has evolved over the centuries. Originally a Gothic castle, it was transformed into a Baroque residence in the 17th century and underwent several modifications. In the 19th century, it was rebuilt in a romantic style. In the past, the area was frequently flooded by the Dyje River, prompting the construction of a large pond with a system of islands. The park also houses the unique Minaret, which serves as a lookout tower ((Martia Kluchová). The entire complex is a unique blend of history, culture, and nature. The town of Lednice offers various cultural events as well as excellent cuisine and friendly service.

Rakúsko – náš sused

Hits: 4514

Najväčšie Neusiedler See (Neziderské) a Bodamské – hraničné, a Atterské jazero (Wikipedia.sk). Často spôsobujú rýchle topenie snehu a záplavy.

V 1. až 5. storočí tu boli rímske provincie Norikum, Récia a Panónia. V 5. storočí nastali germánske a húnske vpády. V 6. storočí slovanské. V 8. storočí Bavori. V 9. storočí patrilo severovýchodné Rakúsko k Veľkej Morave. Ostatná časť podliehala Bavorsku, ktoré patrilo pod Franskú ríšu. Tzv. V roku 1278 porazil Rudolf I. Habsburský Přemysla Otakara II. a vytvoril základ panstva Habsburgovcov.

V Rakúsku žili a pôsobili mnohí svetoznámi hudobní skladatelia: Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Joseph Haydn, Franz Schubert, Johann Strauss starší aj mladší, Gustav Mahler, dirigent Herbert von Karajan. Maliari: Gustav Klimt, Oskar Kokoschk, Egon Schiele, fyzici: Wolfgang Pauli, Erwin Schrödinger, Ludwig Boltzmann, zakladateľ psychoanalýzy Sigmund Freud, etológ Konrad Lorenz, výrobca automobilov Ferdinand Porscheekonóm Friedrich August von Hayek (Wikipedia.cs). Známe sú lyžiarske strediská: Flachau, Altenmarkt, Schladming, Ramsau, Dachstein, Kitzbühel, Hintertux, Kaprun – Zell Am See, Bad Gastein (info-tour.info).

Austria (Rakúsko) is our southern neighbor, and we share a historical connection with it. Its capital city is Vienna (Viedeň). A common greeting in Austria is „Grüss Gott,“ which means „God greet you.“

The name „Österreich“ translates to Eastern Realm. It originates from Old High German „Ostarrichi,“ which referred to the Eastern March, the easternmost territory with German inhabitants. The name „Austria“ is derived from the border fortress Ratgoz, now Raabs, located at the confluence of the Moravian and German Dyje rivers. Austria is divided into 9 federal states (Bundesländer): Burgenland, Niederösterreich (Lower Austria), Oberösterreich (Upper Austria), Kärnten (Carinthia), Salzburg, Steiermark (Styria), Tirol, Vienna, and Vorarlberg. The country has a population of approximately 8.5 million people. The total area of Austria is 83,871 square kilometers, with the majority covered by the Alps, making it the second-highest country in Europe. Brenner Pass serves as a crucial transportation route through the Alps from north to south. Austria’s highest peak is Grossglockner, rising to 3,798 meters above sea level. The alpine region is sparsely inhabited due to its challenging terrain, and the Brenner Pass has been historically significant for travel to Central Europe, Italy, and the Mediterranean. About one-third of Austrians reside in five major cities: Vienna, Graz, Linz, Salzburg, or Innsbruck. Salzburg, known for its well-preserved historical monuments, is sometimes referred to as the „Rome of the North.“

The Danube River, flowing entirely within Austria, is navigable. The largest lakes are Neusiedler See (Neziderské) and Bodensee (bordering Germany and Switzerland), and Atterské Jazero. Austria experiences typical alpine weather with temperature fluctuations, varying wind direction and strength. Cold mountain winds rapidly warm up in the valleys, resulting in the formation of foehn winds. These winds often lead to rapid snowmelt and floods. Precipitation, mainly snow, occurs around 250 days a year in mountain slopes facing west and northwest. The Salzburg Alps receive an annual precipitation of up to 2,400 mm, while the Pannonian Plain receives only about 600 mm. Glaciers, primarily in the High Tauern, cover 600 km2, contributing to 580 lakes, mostly of glacial origin, especially in the Central Alps. The Danube River flows through Austria for 350 km. The territory of present-day Austria has a rich history, including the Hallstatt culture (700–450 BC) and Illyrian settlements (1000–400 BC). From 450 BC to the turn of the millennium, Celts inhabited the area (La Tène culture). In the 1st to 5th centuries, it was part of the Roman provinces of Noricum, Raetia, and Pannonia. In the 5th century, Germanic and Hunnic invasions occurred, followed by Slavic settlements in the 6th century and Bavarians in the 8th century. In the 9th century, northeastern Austria belonged to the Great Moravia, while the remaining part was under Bavarian rule within the Frankish Empire. The so-called Eastern March (previously Avar March) formed the basis of today’s Austria. In the first half of the 10th century, it was occupied by the Magyars. After 955, it became the Eastern March of the East Frankish Empire. From the late 10th century, the designation „Austria“ is documented. Since 1156, it was correctly listed as the Duchy of the Holy Roman Empire. After the extinction of the Babenberg dynasty (976–1251), disputes arose between Czech Přemyslids and Hungarian Árpáds. In 1278, Rudolf I of Habsburg defeated Přemysl Otakar II and laid the foundation for the Habsburg rule. Carinthia became part of Habsburg Austria in 1335. In subsequent developments, Bohemia and Hungary joined Austria (1526), and in 1556, Ferdinand I became both the ruler of Austria and the Holy Roman Emperor.

In 1804, Austria underwent a transformation into the Austrian Empire, and in 1806, the Holy Roman Empire ceased to exist. After the revolution of 1848–49, a harsh police regime known as Bach Absolutism was implemented. In 1867, the empire was transformed into Austria-Hungary. After World War I, Austria-Hungary was defeated, leading to its breakup into successor states. The First Austrian Republic existed in the interwar period from 1918 to 1938. In 1933, an unsuccessful fascist coup known as the Dollfuss Putsch took place. In 1938, Austria was annexed by Germany in the Anschluss. After World War II, the Second Austrian Republic was established under the administration of the victorious powers in 1945. Since 1955, Austria has been independent and neutral. Around 1527, Austria had a population of 1.5 million, which grew to over 3 million by 1810 and nearly 6 million by 1900. Approximately 98% of Austrians speak German. There is no standardized Austrian German, but Austrian variants exhibit differences from standard German, documented in the Austrian German dictionary. Two main dialects prevail: Alamannic and Bavarian. The national anthem is „Land der Berge, Land am Strome“ (Land of Mountains, Land by the River). Austria has been home to many world-famous composers, including Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Joseph Haydn, Franz Schubert, the Strauss family, Gustav Mahler, and conductor Herbert von Karajan. Notable painters include Gustav Klimt, Oskar Kokoschka, and Egon Schiele. Physicists such as Wolfgang Pauli, Erwin Schrödinger, and Ludwig Boltzmann, the founder of psychoanalysis Sigmund Freud, ethologist Konrad Lorenz, automobile manufacturer Ferdinand Porsche, and economist Friedrich August von Hayek also lived and worked in Austria. Famous ski resorts in Austria include Flachau, Altenmarkt, Schladming, Ramsau, Dachstein, Kitzbühel, Hintertux, Kaprun-Zell Am See, and Bad Gastein.

Je sídlom mnohých medzinárodných organizácií spojených národov a iných inštitúcií, napr. OPEC-u.

V roku 1987 baziliku navštívila Matka Tereza (mestosastinstraze.sk).

Stráže boli pred rokom 1960 samostatnou obcou (mestosastinstraze.sk). Zámok mal vraj podzemné spojenie so šaštínskym zámkom.

Šaštín-Stráže is a town in the northern part of . It is home to the beautiful Basilica of the Seven Sorrows (Peter Kaclík). With an area of 42 km2, the town has a population of 5015 inhabitants. It is situated at an elevation of 256 meters above sea level (mestosastinstraze.sk) in the central part of Záhorie Lowland, along the middle course of the Myjava River (Wikipedia).

Šaštín-Stráže is a renowned Marian pilgrimage site (mestosastinstraze.sk). The first mention of Šaštín dates back to 1218 when it was called Saswar (mestosastinstraze.sk), Sasvár. However, the territory of Šaštín has been inhabited since the second half of the 10th century. The name Šaštín is derived from the Hungarian „sás,“ meaning reed, as the area was covered with numerous marshes. In 1218, Imrich II donated the Sasín estate to the Lebény Monastery. Šaštín Castle was the most important watchtower of the entire Záhorie region, built as a water castle along the Myjava River and later on a hill as an advanced guard (Stráže nad Myjavou) (mestosastinstraze.sk). In 1733, the Pauline order undertook the construction of the pilgrimage church and monastery in Šaštín (mestosastinstraze.sk). The Paulines, also known as Piarists, were followers of Saint Paul. Today, the monastery and basilica are under the administration of the Salesian order (Wikipedia).

The Basilica was elevated from a church in 1964, becoming the first basilica in Slovakia (mestosastinstraze.sk). During pilgrimages, Šaštín attracts tens of thousands of pilgrims (Wikipedia). In 1987, Mother Teresa visited the basilica (mestosastinstraze.sk). The basilica has two towers, and near it, there is a monastery, a chapel, and a column with the Holy Trinity statue. The church in Šaštín dates back to the year 1400. Next to it is the Loretto Chapel from the 17th century. The calvary near the cemetery was built in 1798 (mestosastinstraze.sk) and is noteworthy for being on level ground (mestosastinstraze.sk). South of the Basilica of the Seven Sorrows are two ponds with an area of 1820.31 m2, built by the Paulines for fish farming (mestosastinstraze.sk). In the 18th century, the husband of Maria Theresa, Francis I, established the first Hungarian textile manufacturing factory for fabric production – Kartúnka – in Šaštín Castle. In the 19th century, it couldn’t sustain itself, and later a sugar factory operated there. The Jewish synagogue dates back to 1852 (mestosastinstraze.sk). Singer Jana Kocianová was born in Šaštín, and writer Dušan Dušek resides there (Wikipedia).

Stráže was an independent municipality before 1960 (mestosastinstraze.sk). From 1961 to 1971, the town was called Šaštínske Stráže (mestosastinstraze.sk). The village originated in the Middle Ages, with its church dating back to 1339. Stráže was one of the oldest villages in Záhorie, serving as the outpost of Šaštín Castle (mestosastinstraze.sk). The first known written mention of Stráže is from 1392 (mestosastinstraze.sk). In the 1960s, hot water was drilled but remains unused today (mestosastinstraze.sk). The Belvedere summer palace was a favorite retreat for Maria Theresa and was still inhabited at the end of the 18th century. Vineyards surrounded the castle, and the caretaker of the 14 to 16 cellars had a separate residence called „Kellermajstrom,“ which still stood in 1921. The castle reportedly had an underground connection to Šaštín Castle. Belvedere Castle was demolished at the beginning of the 19th century, but the cellars stood until 1918. A reminder of the castle’s existence is the preserved castle well, 60 meters deep, connected by underground passages to the cellars (mestosastinstraze.sk).
