Územie dnešnej Viedne bolo osídľované už Keltmi v 5. storočí pred n. l.. Stari Grad – mesto zo Zoznamu Unesco

Historický názov mesta je Pharos (Faros). Bol kolonizovaný Grékmi (croatia.hr). Je to zaujímavé a pekné mestečko. Starigradské pole, ktoré sa nachádza pri meste, je na Zozname UNESCO. Tamojšie výsadby vinohradov a olív zostali „prakticky nezmenené“ od prvej kolonizácie starých Grékov (croatia.hr). Pre Stari Grad sú typické úzke a samozrejme prístav, na mnohých miestach doslova dýcha .

Je obľúbeným letoviskom, na severozápade Hvaru. V meste žije cca 1900 obyvateľov. Je preslávený pestovaním levandule. Hlavným odvetvím je cestovný ruch a popri to vinárstvo. sa tiahnu až k Jelse a Vrboske. Mimoriadnou historickou pamiatkou je, že sa tu zachoval tzv. grécky ager – rozparcelovanie poľnohospodárskej pôdy prisťahovalcom po kolonizácii ostrova Grékmi spred 2500 rokov (chorvatsko.cz).
