Akváriové trhy – DK Zrkadlový háj

14. 12. sme pripravili malú výstavu panciernikov. Ukázali sme niekoľko druhov rodu Corydoras. Napr. Corydoras aeneus, C. sterbai, C. sp. venezuela black ….

9. 11. sme ukázali zopár tetier. Tetry vo všeobecnosti by som odporučil začínajúcim akvaristom. Medzi veľmi rozšírené druhy patrí neónka pravá, , rod Hyphessobrycon a Hemigrammus.

12. 10. sme zorganizovali Akva & Tera trhy.

Niektoré druhy: Fissidens fontanus – Phoenix moss, F. zippelianus, F. nobilis,  – Marino moss ball, Drepanocladus aduncus, D. sendtneri, Taxiphyllum barbieri – Java moss, T. alterans – Taiwan moss, T. sp. – Flame moss, Giant moss, Green Sock moss, Peacock moss, Spiky moss, String moss – Japan moss, Monoselenium tenerum, Amlystegium serpens – Nano moss, Lomariopsis lineata, Amblystegium serpens ‑Nano moss, Fontinalis antipyretica, F. hypnoides – Willow moss, Isopterygium sp. – Mini Taiwan moss, Cratonneuron filicinum – Triangle moss, Leptodictyum riparium – Stringy moss, Vesicularia dubyana – Singapore moss, V. montagnei /V. d. var. abbreviata – Christmas moss, V. reticulata – Erect moss, V. ferrieri – Weeping moss, V. sp.- Creeping moss, Riccardia chamedryfolia – Mini pellia, Barbulla sp.- Milimeter moss.

On December 14th, we organized a small exhibition of armored catfish. We showcased several species of the Corydoras genus, such as Corydoras aeneus, C. sterbai, C. sp. Venezuela black …

On November 9th, we presented some tetras. Tetras, in general, I would recommend to beginner aquarists. Most commonly available species are smaller in size, their behavior is usually social and non-aggressive towards both themselves and the aquarium equipment. The term characids” was previously used, although not entirely accurate, to refer to tetras. Among the very widespread species are the neon tetra, Hyphessobrycon, and Hemigrammus genera.

On October 12th, we organized the Aquatic & Terrarium Markets. There was no exhibition included.

On September 14th, we held another Aquarium Market event, where we presented shrimp in the form of a smaller exhibition. Shrimp have been kept in aquariums in the past. Like many things, shrimp also went through trends. Around 2009, there was a strong wave of shrimp keeping that reached us. They were perhaps in every aquarium shop. Red, blue, brown, small, large, more algae-eating, less algae-eating, reproducing, not reproducing, delicate, and undemanding ones… They were sold in large quantities in stores and at fairs. Occasionally, questions were heard in shops about what exactly was moving in the tanks. The strong demand lasted for about two years, then interest in them waned. Despite their short lifespan, the market became saturated. Due to the smaller size of most common shrimp, many species suitable for smaller aquariums can be found among them. They are suitable for fish that primarily don’t consume them as food. The advantage of shrimp is that they take care of food leftovers, fallen leaves, etc. Of course, they usually prefer regular food over anything else. Some shrimp species are quite sensitive to changes in conditions, while others are undemanding. Perhaps the simplest to keep is the Neocaridina davidi species – formerly N. heteropoda, N. denticulata.

On June 15th, there was another date for the Aquarium Markets. This time, we prepared a small exhibition of crayfish, which received increased attention. They were truly beautiful, as can be seen in the photos below.

On May 11th, the Aquarium & Terrarium Markets took place. A small showcase of mosses was included. Mosses belong to Bryophyta – moss plants. They are an ancient group of plants, non-flowering, and lack seeds or vascular bundles like higher plants. Growing mosses in an aquarium is usually not difficult. They tolerate lower light and lower nutrient input. Mosses can be attached to a grid, stone, wood, etc. Some species include Fissidens fontanus – Phoenix moss, F. zippelianus, F. nobilis, Cladophora aegagropila – Marino moss ball, Drepanocladus aduncus, D. sendtneri, Taxiphyllum barbieri – Java moss, T. alterans – Taiwan moss, T. sp. – Flame moss, Giant moss, Green Sock moss, Peacock moss, Spiky moss, String moss – Japan moss, Monoselenium tenerum, Amlystegium serpens – Nano moss, Lomariopsis lineata, Amblystegium serpens – Nano moss, Fontinalis antipyretica, F. hypnoides – Willow moss, Isopterygium sp. – Mini Taiwan moss, Cratonneuron filicinum – Triangle moss, Leptodictyum riparium – Stringy moss, Vesicularia dubyana – Singapore moss, V. montagnei /V. d. var. abbreviata – Christmas moss, V. reticulata – Erect moss, V. ferrieri – Weeping moss, V. sp. – Creeping moss, Riccardia chamedryfolia – Mini pellia, Barbulla sp. – Milimeter moss.

On April 6th, Aquarium Markets – Betta fish exhibition was held in Bratislava Petržalka. A small Betta splendens exhibition was prepared. 31 bettas awaited their admirers. Thanks to Daniel Holý for them. It was shown to the visitors that their attractiveness is higher than that of livebearers. It was interesting that most visitors found the same most beautiful betta – as indicated by the first photograph. Betta fish belong to labyrinth fish. They breathe through a specific respiratory organ – the labyrinth. This allows bettas to survive in small, oxygen-poor, densely vegetated East Asian puddles. It is known about them that males often fight each other to the death. Since they depend on atmospheric oxygen, they sometimes need to go to the surface to breathe. It is very interesting that even during a fierce fight, a male who doesn’t need to go up for air will wait for his opponent to do so. Towards other unrelated species, they behave apathetically, so it is possible to have them in a community aquarium, assuming only one male in the tank. Although it is true that young bettas don’t fight each other when they are young. Bettas are not suitable to be combined with paradise fish (Macropodus spp.), gouramis – Trichogaster genus. These Asian tigers would not grant them peace, behaving aggressively towards them. Bettas are relatively undemanding in care, for breeding, males build foam nests – they gather air in their mouths and create a kind of cradle under the surface with these small bubbles. Therefore, it is necessary for the water surface to be very still in such cases, or to move only slightly. Floating plants are a welcome part of normal betta keeping and breeding. The fry is very small and requires feeding with a pipette or other very small live food at the beginning. They are susceptible to temperature fluctuations, so it is necessary to prevent temperature changes throughout the water column. Therefore, it is highly advisable to cover the aquarium surface as tightly as possible. It is optimal for the water to have the same temperature as the air above the surface.

Trikrát do roka rozšírené o teraristickú časť. Keďže snahou výstavy živorodiek bolo ukázať krásu týchto rýb, a my máme vo svojom okolí úspešných chovateľov a posudzovateľov súťažných živorodiek, jedného z nich – Ivana Vyslúžila sme aj bližšie predstavili. Takisto sme stručne opísali súťaže živorodých rýb.

In Bratislava’s Petržalka, at DK Zrkadlový háj, Aquatrades were held on March 16th. The event included a small livebearer exhibition. Aquatrades as such already have their tradition. They are organized thanks to Milan Líbal. Originally held in Dúbravka, they moved” to Petržalka around the winter of 2011. There is an effort to hold the markets every month, except during the summer holidays. Three times a year, they are expanded to include a terrarium section. Since the March event in 2013, there has been an effort to always include at least a small exhibition as part of the event. In addition, there are a few photographs with an aquaristic theme and coloring pages for children or even adults at the event. I try to help with Aquatrades. Part of the media campaign for Aquarium Markets is a fan page on Facebook – www.facebook.com/akvatrh, where a community of people gathers and gets operational” information about sellers, exhibitions, etc. At the March Aquatrades, the green swordtail – Xiphophorus helleri, variatus platy – Xiphophorus variatus, so-called endler – Poecilia wingei, and rainbow guppy – Poecilia reticulata were introduced in more detail. These species were exhibited in aquariums, and simplified texts were prepared for them, which are included with the photographs. Since the aim of the livebearer exhibition was to showcase the beauty of these fish, and we have successful breeders and assessors of competitive livebearers in our vicinity, we also introduced one of them – Ivan Vyslúžil. We also briefly described livebearer competitions.

Mečovky vytvárajú hierarchiu alfa samca a beta samca. V nich umiestnená samička rodí mladé, a tie buď unikajú do uzavretého priestoru cez priestor úzkych štrbín, alebo prenikajú cez tieto štrbiny do voľného akvária.

Xiphophorus helleri – Green Swordtail (according to Xiphophorus helleri – Green Swordtail, Mexican Swordtail). Swordtails belong to livebearers. Their previous Slovak synonym was Mexican swordbearer. As the species name suggests, it originates from Mexico. It is widespread from northern Mexico to the central and western parts of Guatemala and Honduras. It is one of the most well-known fish ever. Their care is simple, but it should be noted that swordtails heavily pollute the environment with their excrements. They are literally energy conversion machines. In aquarium slang, they are sometimes pejoratively referred to as combines”. Their metabolic conversion is admirable. We owe them strings, patents, they also accept dried food, but we must not forget to diversify their diet with blanched lettuce, spinach, or other vegetables. Swordtails establish an alpha male and beta male hierarchy. Sexual dimorphism is evident. The male differs from the female by external genitalia — gonopodia. Additionally, it is slimmer. A sword grows as an extension of its caudal fin. Reproduction is simple. We recognize gravid females by their full bellies, dark spot in the abdominal cavity. Females are cannibals, so if we want to rear the young fry, we will have to prevent her contact with the offspring. Birthing tanks are commercially available for this purpose. In them, a female gives birth to young, and they either escape to a confined space through narrow slits or penetrate through these slits into the main aquarium. It depends on what suits us better. You can make a birthing tank from plastic mesh or other suitable material. Just get mesh from a gardening store, ironmongery, construction store, stitch it up, and make sure it holds properly on the surface. Similar nets are also used in breeding facilities for longer periods. During birthing, make sure we don’t place the female in warmer water than she was accustomed to in her previous environment. Otherwise, we may encounter premature delivery of undeveloped or dead fry. Swordtail fry are large, grow quite slowly in the first month, and then grow faster. It is said that males whose sword grows earlier will not have as much potency as males whose sword begins to grow later. In swordtails, gender change is known, where in the absence of males in the population, females change into males. They develop a gonopodium, sword. The sword is usually smaller. However, what does not change is the robust female build. It’s a pity that this amazing change often doesn’t lead to success — thus developed males are usually infertile. Swordtails are the source of many breeding experiments. There are countless forms known. For example, Viennese swordtails are probably the rarest of the standard ones. They are characterized by a finer red – pale red color with red eyes. They are considerably more delicate than other forms. Almost all males are infertile, maybe one in 200 is fertile.

Xiphophorus variatus – Variatus Platy is a species originating from southern Mexico. They tolerate higher salinity, one tablespoon per 20 liters of water. Platies are similar to swordtails but slightly smaller. Overall, they appear more delicate. The species X. maculatus, variatus, and helleri spontaneously crossbreed, but it is rare. Compared to swordtails, they are calmer; the female usually is not a cannibal towards her own offspring, but it is still more effective to use a birthing tank. Even with this beautiful livebearer, competitions are organized according to the standard. There are a lot of color and shape varieties.

Poecilia wingei – Endler’s Livebearer is a wild livebearer species. John A. Endler discovered this species in 1975 in Laguna de Patos near the town of Puerto La Cruz in northeastern Venezuela. Before him, it was discovered in 1930 by Franklyn F. Bond. Laguna de Patos is the only known location of endlers. The original name was named after Endler – Poecilia sp. endleri. It grows up to 22.5 cm, the male is smaller than the female. The color patterns of males are amazing. Females are practically colorless, similar to guppies – Poecilia reticulata. There aren’t many breeders who keep the original natural form of this species. They are relatively short-lived fish; one year of life is rare, they usually live for 89 months. They are suitable for small aquariums. They will feel good in a planted aquarium. Reproduction occurs willingly, the number of young is smaller than with guppies, 20 pieces from a litter is a decent number. If we want to maintain a pure breed, it is necessary to prevent crossbreeding with Poecilia reticulata, with which endlers easily crossbreed. Some swordtail guppies were achieved precisely by crossing with P. wingei. The green color of endlers is first lost in offspring.

Pôvodné rozšírenie je vo Venezuele, dnes jej areál zasahuje východnú Amazóniu, Venezuelu, Trinidad a Tobago, Barbados, severnú Brazíliu a Guayanu – povodie Orinoka. Existuje množstvo tvarových a farebných foriem. Pomer pohlaví odporúčam 3:1 a viac v prospech samičiek. Samičky so samcami dajte dokopy vtedy, ak chcete, aby sa spolu párili.

Poecilia reticulata – Guppy (according to The most famous species of aquarium fish – Guppy, Poecilia reticulata). The beautiful name Guppy” originates from the natural form of P. reticulata, which has a dark spot bordered with color on the body, usually oriented towards the upper edge of the caudal fin. Its original distribution is in Venezuela, but today its range extends to the eastern Amazon, Venezuela, Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados, northern Brazil, and Guyana – the Orinoco Basin. Today, guppies can also be found in Australia, Cuba, Hawaii, Southeast Asia, Eastern and Southern Africa, South America up to the USA, Southern Spain, Greece, Italy, and even in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. In the wild, males reach 3.5 cm, females 6 cm. They live on average 812 months. They are characterized by significant sexual dimorphism. The male is much more colorful, slimmer, and has a gonopodium – a modified anal fin ray 3 to 5. The basic color of both sexes is gray. Guppies are very friendly fish, mostly swimming in the middle and lower part of the aquarium. Guppy breeding is widespread worldwide. There are many shape and color varieties. Guppy breeding used to be trouble-free. Today, they are heavily overbred and have become less resilient. I recommend a sex ratio of 3:1 or more in favor of females. I consider the ideal breeding values to be a temperature of 2227°C, 1020°dGH, pH 7.5. Extremely soft water is not suitable. Guppies rest at night lying on the bottom, their tails touching the ground, which exposes them to infection. The substrate must not contain a lot of detritus, effective filtration is a good condition for healthy fish. Guppies literally love fresh water, and if the water is changed very often, they grow very quickly and are in excellent condition. Continuous water changes are ideal. Guppy reproduction is straightforward, often occurring in aquariums against the will of the aquarist. Males, often three at a time, persistently chase the female, who usually ignores their activity at first. However, when the female consents, the male copulates using the gonopodium. The female is capable of storing sperm and giving birth in the next 34 subsequent litters. A much bigger problem is raising the young. As Ivan Vyslúžil says, Anyone can breed guppies, but only a breeder can raise them.” Newly born guppy fry are relatively large fish fry – reaching around 1 cm. They initially grow slower, but after two weeks of good feeding, their growth accelerates. Like with other fish, it is advisable to feed guppies as consistently as possible until they reach a size of two centimeters. As soon as the gender can be distinguished, separate the young by gender if you want to prevent degeneration through inbreeding. Males reach sexual maturity at the age of two months, females one month later. Put females with males together only when you want them to mate.

Riasy

Najmä Poecilia sphenops, Xiphophorus helleri, Gyrinocheilus aymonieri, Crossocheilus siamensis, Otocinclus, Epalzeorhynchus, Labeo, Helostoma temmincki, Ancistrus atď. Z kreviet najmä Caridina japonica, Neocaritida denticulata.

Savo zriedime v pomere 1:20. Jemnolisté rastliny znesú 2 – 3 minúty, väčšina rastlín 3 minúty, rastliny s tuhšími listami ako Anubias, Echinodorus, Crypotocoryne 3 – 4 minúty. Stačí ich ponoriť do pripraveného roztoku a následne poriadne prepláchnuť vo vode. Samozrejme aplikujte tento postup mimo akvária, napr. v kýbli. Takto môžeme zbaviť rias aj štrk, kamene apod., ostane doslova vybielený.

Algae

I would like to emphasize that algae are plants. They do not belong to higher plants – Magnoliophyta like most available aquatic plants, but rather to lower plants Algae – algae. Algae are part of the aquarium, trying to prevent them from being in the aquarium at all is an uneven battle and ultimately unnecessary. An aquarium without algae looks unnaturally sterile.

Algae are closely related to the amount of light. It is not easy at all to ensure optimal lighting conditions for our specific case. I consider it most important to achieve optimal growth of higher plants. In this case, higher plants can cope with a competitively weaker opponent. However, algae can react to changes much faster than higher plants. If you have a planted aquarium, I recommend covering the open bottom with plants by more than 75%. In that case, aquatic plants can effectively process even larger amounts of light and nutrients. They can to some extent compensate for higher energy inputs as well.

Algae are most commonly eliminated mechanically. I recommend a rough sponge for dishes or a soft wire. I do not recommend a razor blade, magnetic scraper, but even with a sponge or wire, be careful not to accidentally scratch the glass with gravel pieces during cleaning, especially on the front glass, it is unpleasant.

Biological means against algae include, for example, snails. But some fish also consume algae. Especially Poecilia sphenops, Xiphophorus helleri, Gyrinocheilus aymonieri, Crossocheilus siamensis, Otocinclus, Epalzeorhynchus, Labeo, Helostoma temmincki, Ancistrus, etc. Of shrimp, especially Caridina japonica, Neocaritida denticulata. It is important to note that for some of these organisms, algae are a natural food, but often, if they have enough other food, they prefer it. Black algae are reliably eaten only by the Chinese algae eater – Gyrinocheilus aymonieri and shrimp Caridina japonica. In nature, microscopic algae are consumed by small crustaceans – cyclops, rotifers, daphnia. Relying on biological means in case of higher algae occurrence is naive. In that case, it’s better to roll up your sleeves and get to work.

Algae can be effectively removed by the action of ultraviolet radiation. UV lamps can be purchased in pet stores, or you can make them yourself. It works on the principle of UV radiation acting on water passing through a tube, in which water is propelled by a filter, theoretically by some pump. The water passing through is exposed to radiation, which kills algae spores, of course, as well as pathogenic spores. The lamp acts on the water passing into the aquarium, thus protecting the water from algae. In the case of turbidity, direct exposure of the lamp’s light to the water can be used – but in that case, it is necessary to protect the eyes and not have fish or plants in the tank.

Algae can also be removed chemically, using products available in pet stores or at pet fairs. Some are based on copper, which is not suitable for some species, e.g., catfish. I recommend using products from EasyLife or Seachem. For example, AlgExit. Partially, effective fertilizer Carbo can be used, which if applied a few times directly to the problematic bunch of algae, can eventually kill even resistant algae.

Water flow also affects algae. The well-known black bristle algae, which belongs to red algae, thrives in strong flow, often found mainly on the filter, at its outlet. With an excess of light and nutrients, green and red algae are created. Brown algae occur in aquariums exceptionally in case of insufficient light. For example, in breeding tanks, or in case the aquarist does not shine enough, especially for a long time.

As a proven tool against bristle algae, the use of bleach can also be mentioned. Bleach naturally destroys all algae. Dilute the bleach at a ratio of 1:20. Fine-leaved plants tolerate 2 – 3 minutes, most plants 3 minutes, plants with tougher leaves like Anubias, Echinodorus, Cryptocoryne 3 – 4 minutes. Just immerse them in the prepared solution and then rinse thoroughly in water. Of course, apply this procedure outside the aquarium, e.g., in a bucket. This way, we can also get rid of algae, gravel, stones, etc., which will literally be bleached.

Algen

Besonders Poecilia sphenops, Xiphophorus helleri, Gyrinocheilus aymonieri, Crossocheilus siamensis, Otocinclus, Epalzeorhynchus, Labeo, Helostoma temmincki, Ancistrus usw.

Najznámejšie sú zelené riasyChlorophyta a červené riasy Rhodophyta. Sú však napr.aj hnedé riasyPhaephyceae, rozsievkyBacillariophyceae. Medzi známe druhy patrí Chlorella – jednobunková riasa schopná do zelena totálne ” zafarbiť” celú nádrž. V akvaristike sa preto používa termín zelený zákal, všeobecne sa používa termín vodný kvet. Medzi červené riasy patrí napr. Audouinella. Riasy sú rovnako ako vyššie rastliny asimilátory hmoty, obdobným spôsobom viažu svetlo, a tvoria organickú hmotu a ako vedľajší produkt kyslík.

Tzv. vodný kvet najmä v eutrofizovaných jazerách a nádržiach tvoria často mikroskopické druhy Chlorella pyrenoidosa, Volvox aureus. Draparnaldia, Tetraspora gelatinosa, Hydrodictyon reticulatum, Euglena. Dajú sa pomerne ťažko zo skla.

Green Algae

The most well-known are green algae – Chlorophyta and red algae – Rhodophyta. However, there are also brown algae – Phaeophyceae, diatoms – Bacillariophyceae, for example. Among the well-known species is Chlorella – a single-celled algae capable of completely coloring” the entire tank green. In aquarium keeping, the term green water” is used, while the general term water bloom” is also commonly used. Among the red algae is, for example, Audouinella. Algae, like higher plants, are assimilators of matter, bind light in a similar way, and produce organic matter and oxygen as a by-product.

The so-called water bloom, especially in eutrophic lakes and reservoirs, is often formed by microscopic species such as Chlorella pyrenoidosa, Volvox aureus. In the case of green water, common methods such as water changes, sedimentation, but especially total tank blackout for some time, can help. After this unaesthetic procedure, it is advisable to again replace a large amount of water. Another common type is the long filamentous green algae such as Pithophora, Oedogonium, Cladophora, which are relatively difficult to remove. Perhaps the most effective method is mechanical winding on a spindle or similar tool. However, they are eaten by livebearers, Ancistrus, Crossocheilus siamensis, Gyrinocheilus aymonieri, etc. Unlike brush algae, it is not so firmly anchored in the plants, so damage to the plants rarely occurs when removed. Savo bath can also be applied to hair algae. Algae forming small colonies, similar to brown algae on leaves, include Draparnaldia, Tetraspora gelatinosa, Hydrodictyon reticulatum, Euglena. They can be quite difficult to remove from glass.

Red Algae

Among the red algae – Rhodophyta, the previously mentioned brush algae can be an unwelcome guest. It is often also referred to as black algae. It is characterized by chromatic adaptation – it changes its photosynthetic pigments (color) depending on the current light conditions. It usually infiltrates through imported plants, water from another tank, snails, or even fish. The transfer of algae with water from another tank can occur very innocently – the algae is accidentally transferred. Spores of algae are sufficient for a successful” introduction. The main source of nutrition for algae is primarily older leaves of higher plants.

Taxonomically, it is several species such as Audouinella, Compsopogon, Batrachospermum moniliforme, Lemanea. Aquarists’ experiences with it vary. Generally, red algae and also black algae” thrive in nutrient excess. For example, they often occur very frequently in the summer and gradually begin to disappear from the aquarium from September. Their growth is influenced by daylight. They thrive in too much light. This algae is usually black, but its color can also be dark blue or dark green. It adheres practically everywhere, to plants, to the substrate, to the shells of snails, to the aquarium glass, it disrupts the film on the walls, etc. It holds very firmly, and it is mechanically very problematic to remove it from the surface of the plants. Usually, when trying to remove it, we also tear off a part of the plant. From personal experience, I know that it is difficult to remove it even with a wire brush from hard stone.

Black algae can also be fought in a more natural way. First and foremost, the nutrient intake should be reduced. There are several options for this – for example, removing sediment more frequently, changing the water more often, possibly increasing the amount during a change, feeding less, providing less light, moving the aquarium to a darker place.

Rote Algen

Niektoré druhy: Stephanodiscus bellus, Gomphonema geminatum, Hydrurus foetidus, Tabellaria ventricosa, Cymbella cistula.

Brown Algae

Brown algae – require different conditions than green and red algae. Among this type of algae, aquarists also include diatoms – Bacillariophyceae (Diatomae). Brown algae often appear shortly after the tank is set up. Their presence usually diminishes quickly and gradually disappears. However, if the presence is persistent, it is likely that our aquarium has not been provided with enough light. Brown algae mainly attach to the walls of the tank, but they can also be found on the surface of plants. Therefore, the solution to this situation is very simple: increasing the amount of light. Some species include: Stephanodiscus bellus, Gomphonema geminatum, Hydrurus foetidus, Tabellaria ventricosa, Cymbella cistula.

Braune Algen

Riasy a vyššie rastliny patria medzi eukaryotické organizmy.

Algae

Algae do not belong to plants (seaweed), but they are often classified among them. They are often referred to as blue-green algae. They are usually truly blue-green, which is caused by the pigment phycocyanin, but they can also be brown-black. Algae and higher plants belong to eukaryotic organisms. Algae are prokaryotic organisms unlike seaweed, plants, and animals. They are related to bacteria. Their metabolic products are harmful to fish, and at high concentrations, also to humans – let’s remember, for example, the ban on swimming in Kuchajda in Bratislava, but also in other bodies of water. They are often slimy in consistency and occur at high concentrations of nitrogen and phosphorus. Algae are very resilient opponents, the same procedures apply to eliminate them as in the case of seaweed. Some species: Aphanizomenon gracile, Rivularia haematites, Anabaena flos-aquae, Mycrocystis auruginosa, Oscillatoria limosa. It is not easy to get rid of them; I recommend using products from EasyLife, Seachem, etc. Interestingly, Malawi cichlids are one of the few groups of fish that consume algae.

Algen

Shrimps are found all over the world. Biologically, they belong to the crustaceans. They live from coastal areas to deep sea beds, inhabiting both cold and warm waters. They are omnivores, feeding on algae, detritus, plankton, small fish, crustaceans, mollusks, and organic material on the seabed. Many shrimp species are social and exhibit various forms of cooperation and communication within the group. In the seas, they often serve as food for fish, birds, and crustaceans. However, they are also a favorite food for many people. So much so that overfishing threatens entire shrimp populations and leads to imbalance in marine ecosystems.

Raky

Hits: 4775

Crayfish are an indispensable part of aquatic ecosystems, playing a crucial role in their balance and biodiversity. Their habitat ranges from freshwater rivers and lakes to brackish and marine waters. Each species has unique adaptations for survival in its specific environment. Crayfish have exceptional abilities to memorize their surroundings. This skill is vital for their survival as it enables them to find food, evade predators, and navigate their habitats. Some crayfish species exhibit complex social behaviors, including hierarchy, defensive behavior, and cooperation in food hunting. They communicate with each other through chemical and visual signals, allowing coordination of their activities. Crayfish have a significant impact on ecosystems as they influence the distribution of other organisms. They are an important part of food chains, serving as prey for many fish, birds, and other predatory animals. They face various threats such as habitat loss, water pollution, overfishing, and invasion by non-native species.

V strave rýb by mali byť zastúpené tieto lipidy: triglyceridy, fosfolipidy a voskové estery [1]. Pre samotný spôsob podávania potravy existujú niektoré zaujímavé nápady. Raz som bol svedkom rozhovoru, medzi dvoma chovateľmi. Jeden sa pýtal druhého: Čím kŕmiš ryby?” A on odpovedal: Rukou.” Granule vám takým zaujímavým mechanizmom spadnú do vody – netreba ich rukou vyberať. Obmedzuje sa tým možnosť nákazy. Osobne to považujem trochu za prehnané a reklamný ťahák. Existuje aj možnosť použitia krmítok. Existujú rôzne typy. Obzvlášť zaujímavá je možnosť použitia automatického krmítka. Dá sa kúpiť, alebo vyrobiť. Nadobúda význam pri vašej neprítomnosti.

Feed is very important, fish health depends on it. If we feed correctly, our fish will be in good condition. Of course, feeding should be specific to the species. For some species, one type of food is suitable, for others it may be risky. The most important thing is to follow two basic rules: do not overfeed and feed a varied diet. We distinguish several basic types of feed: dry, frozen, and live. Fish can find a source of nutrition in the aquarium itself. This includes leftovers from previously fed food, plants, algae, microorganisms, or even smaller fish. There are cases where a fish can survive without human intervention for up to 3 months. If you have a normally functioning tank and don’t keep any predatory or problematic species, don’t worry too much about what the fish will eat during your absence lasting three to four weeks. In this case, less is sometimes more.

When feeding fish, it is often necessary to wait until the fish get used to the new type of food – fish may refuse food. The reasons can be various, but if this feed is suitable for our fish, be patient. Fish nutrition should be varied; I recommend changing the source of feed as often as possible to ensure our fish have enough of everything they need. Feeding with fatty food is not recommended, as it can lead to infertility caused by ovarian disease or dropsy. Fish get used to their food. Some food they like immediately, others need to learn. Less experienced aquarists prefer food that floats on the surface, while more experienced ones prefer food that sinks to the bottom. Ideally, some food stays briefly on the surface and then sinks, while other food sinks immediately. If overfeeding occurs in the aquarium, it should be noted that even the best-prepared food will start to decompose over time. This brings many disadvantages – water cloudiness, lack of oxygen, and in extreme cases, food mold.

Feed in small portions. Only as much as the fish can consume within five minutes. Adult fish are usually fed twice a day. The same principle applies as with humans; it is better to feed less but more often than more but less often. Fry should be fed up to five times a day because their metabolism works very quickly and their digestive system cannot handle larger amounts of food. If we do not do this, we expose ourselves to the risk of starvation. Generally, we should prefer feed with low fat and ash (unidentified parts) content and higher protein and carbohydrate content. The essential amino acids for fish are: phenylalanine, histidine, isoleucine, leucine, lysine, methionine, tryptophan, valine, arginine, threonine. The diet of fish should include these lipids: triglycerides, phospholipids, and wax esters. There are some interesting ideas for feeding. Once I witnessed a conversation between two breeders. One asked the other, What do you feed your fish with?” And he replied, With my hand.” I would stick to that, even though the previous dialogue was a joke. But there is fish food on the market with a mechanism where you don’t come into physical contact with the food itself. Granules with such an interesting mechanism fall into the water – there is no need to pick them up by hand. This reduces the risk of infection. Personally, I consider it a bit exaggerated and a marketing gimmick. There is also the option of using feeders. There are different types. Especially interesting is the option of using an automatic feeder. It can be bought or made. It becomes important when you are absent.

Füttern Sie in kleinen Portionen.

Dry food

The method of preparing dry food varies. Very common are preparations in flakes, pellets, or pellets, tablets. Flakes can be accepted by practically all fish. Granules are coarser prepared food with different sizes. Flakes tend to float on the surface, granules sink to the bottom: Pellets stay on the surface for a longer time, but then they sink to the bottom. Tablets fall to the bottom or adhere to the substrate. Food is prepared, for example, by lyophilization, when it is usually in the form of cubes that need to be torn apart. Lyophilization is a method of food processing at very low temperatures – it is freeze-drying. The form can also be powdery (e.g., for fry). Live food is often lyophilized: cyclops, daphnia, artemia, gammarus. Some types of feed are so-called extruded, which means that the bonds in this feed have been disrupted or shortened. Extruded feed is more energy-efficient – less of this feed can be fed. Because fish expend less energy digesting it. The percentage representation of individual basic components of nutrition is similar to that declared on the packaging of individual feeds – fat (lipid), sugar (carbohydrate), and protein content. It is possible that the vitamin content is also listed somewhere, but rather only qualitatively – without numerical expression, as well as trace elements. The ash content should also be stated – i.e., undifferentiated parts. Fiber, or bulk substances, may be listed somewhere. The lower the ash content, the better. If you need a more nutritious diet, choose feed with a higher protein content. Conversely, if a diet that is more suitable, which should be given more and should be more difficult to digest, choose a high content of bulk substances or fiber. In dried form, preparations such as cyclops, daphnia, shelled artemia, spirulina, threads, etc., are prepared. Dry foods generally often contain these ingredients: fish meal, fillets, dried beef heart, breadcrumbs, oats, egg yolk. Good feed includes, for example, Spirulina, shelled artemia, Chlorella. Those who feed trout food must expect a higher fat content.

Trockenfutter

No ani vaječný bielok zrejme neostane rybami nepovšimnutý.

Alternative” Feed

As a substitute for natural food sources, a commonly available range of foods can be used. Many fish species eagerly accept peas. Remove the outer skin, crush slightly (according to the type of fish), and you’re ready to serve. Especially for newly hatched fry, boiled egg yolk is often used in the first few days. Be mindful of the decomposition of this material, as this very pure protein decomposes quickly. But even egg white will likely not go unnoticed by fish. Soaked, swollen oat flakes or groats are accepted by some larger fish species, as are partially cooked potatoes. Fruit is less suitable. Vegetables add variety: cucumber (e.g., for suckerfish or cichlids), melon, carrot, spinach (both fresh and frozen blended), Swiss chard, lettuce, zucchini, squash, cabbage, kohlrabi, broccoli, kale, Chinese cabbage, etc. Nettle is also suitable, for example. I blanch the nettle by pouring boiling water over it, then chop it up and freeze it. Pasta such as spaghetti, noodles, and so on can also be used as feed. Fish also accept rice (all of course cooked in clean water without salt). If we cook a larger quantity, what remains after feeding can be stored in the freezer. Sweet paprika is also very suitable for coloring fish. Some breeders make mixtures of various compositions, which they mix and keep frozen. In doing so, they ensure, among other things, a varied composition of food.

Alternative” Futter

Viele Fischarten nehmen Erbsen gerne an.

Nitenky je vhodné kúpiť živé, niečo hneď skŕmiť a potom vo svojej mrazničke zamraziť – potom budú nitenky v akceptovateľnej mrazenej podobe.

Frozen Feed

Frozen feed provides a valuable source of nutrition. It can be purchased at pet stores or obtained by catching and freezing it yourself, or by purchasing it in live form and subsequently freezing it. It is advisable to dose frozen food in smaller portions, also to allow it to thaw quickly in the water. It can also be fed by taking a larger piece of frozen food and dipping it into the aquarium. I have never thawed frozen food in advance, I can’t even imagine it realistically, like feeding in a farm where there are a hundred tanks, in this way. The market offers, for example, these types of frozen food:

  • mosquito larvae – Chironomus plumosus – very popular food for almost all fish. Sometimes combined with astaxanthin.
  • copepod – very suitable nutritious food for all types of fish,
  • daphnia – less nutritious food that contains a lot of water,
  • moina – tiny nutritious daphnia with less water in their bodies,
  • rotifer – tiny organism,
  • phantom midge – Chaoborus plumicornis – valuable feed that can be efficiently caught even in winter,
  • black mosquito larva – Culex pipiens – food that is qualitatively very similar to natural food for fish in their original environment in nature,
  • freshwater microcrustacean – a species from our temperate zone, reaching 1 cm in size,
  • Artemia – frozen form of the marine Artemia salina,
  • tubifex – I do not recommend buying frozen tubifex. I have never heard of frozen tubifex from a store that didn’t resemble mud. Tubifex should be bought live, feed some immediately, and then freeze the rest in your freezer – then the tubifex will be in an acceptable frozen condition.
  • beef heart – nutritious food suitable for some large American cichlids, for example,
  • fillet – blended fish meat – suitable feed especially for predatory fish,
  • gammarus – Orchestia gamacellus is suitable food for larger fish species,
  • fish meat – feed for predatory fish. Frozen marine fish for marine aquaristics are also available for sale,
  • shrimp – Leander adsperus – suitable food for larger fish species,
  • mysis – Mysis relicta is a small crustacean,
  • marine algae, spirulina, mussel meat, various mixtures – countless types of frozen feeds, which are gradually becoming more diverse.

Gefrorenes Futter

Live Feed

This type of feed is highly suitable for fish because it resembles the food they consume in the wild. We have the option to catch it in nature or cultivate it ourselves. It has a high content of vitamins, making it healthy for our fish. Arguments about infection are somewhat shaky in my opinion. There’s always a risk, but successful fish life is built on nutrition. Live food is irreplaceable. No sensible aquarist would source food from an infected location, and any minor infection should be manageable by well-fed fish. Live food also prompts larger fish to change their behavior more significantly, as the food actively moves. Live feed requires more care than fish. I have separate articles on many live feeds.

Lebendfutter

  • Hmyz. Mal by tvoriť 5 % potravy. Mnohé sú prirodzenou potravou rýb v ich domovine, napr. šidláAnisoptera, vážkyOdonata, chrobáky - Coleoptera. Najmä tzv. múčne červy, čo je zástupca podradu Polyphaga, čeľade Tenebrionidae Tenebrio molitor. Svoj význam majú z hľadiska chovateľstva hlavne v teraristike, no akvaristi ich môžu využiť, najmä kým je ich pokožka ešte mäkká. Muchy Brachycera – kedysi sa larvy múch bežne používali, švábyBlattodea. Tri čeľade rovnokrídlovcov Orthoptera: svrčky – Gryllidae, koníky – Acrididae, kobylky – Tettigoniidae, voškyAphidoidea, pakobylkyPhasmatodea, motýle – Lepidoptera, vidlonôžkyMysisdacea – napr. Mysis relicta, pošvatky – Plecoptera, potočníky – Trichoptera, podenkyEphemeroptera, komáre – Nematocera, mrave – Formicidae z triedy blanokrídlovcov - Hymenoptera - dospelce konzumujú radi iba niektoré ryby.Pred chytaním, zbieraním kukiel veľkého množstva by som chcel odradiť, nechajte prosím radšej mravce žiť.
  • Článkonožce. Napr. chvostoskokyCollembola (častý hosť našich kvetináčov – prejavujú sa skákavým pohybom): napr. Hydropodura aquatica, Isotoma, Smithurus viridis, krill – Carnela – drobné kôrovce.
  • Komár – Culex pipiens je komár piskľavý. Vyskytuje sa hojne najmä v nížinných oblastiach v lužných lesoch, pravdepodobne ho všetci dobre poznáme. Larva tohto komára je vhodná pre ryby. Chovatelia gupiek ňou kŕmia samičky pred pôrodom. V mrazenej forme je v ponuke obyčajne pod názvom čierna larva. Ak ich nachytáme živé, mali by sme dbať, aby ryby stačili požrať celú dávku, pretože metamorfóza tohto tvora je pomerne rýchla. ;-)”. Ak to neviete, štípu iba samičky :-).
  • Ryby.

Midge larvae – Chironomus spp. – several related species, e.g., Chironomus plumosus, are bright red in color. Almost all fish readily accept midge larvae. They occur abundantly in cold water.

Water beetles. If we catch daphnia, cyclops, we may also find water beetles (larvae of the phantom midge Chaoborus plumicornis, Corethra plumicornis) in our sieve, especially in cooler months. They are often found in aquarists’ sieves. They live in very cold water, under a thick layer of ice over the winter. Water beetles are transparent, almost glassy. They move by a shrinking-like motion. They are predatory, so we must not overfeed them to smaller fish. They are considered very valuable food, and are also available in frozen form.

Gammarus – Orchestia gammacellus is a crustacean found in water, commonly known as an amphipod. It belongs to the suborder Gamaridea – amphipods, order Amphipoda – crustaceans, subclass Malacostraca, class Crustacea. It is a crustacean.

Earthworms – Lumbricidae. Smaller species are suitable – Eisenia, Allolobophora, for example, for larger cichlid species, or even the most common species Lumbricus terrestris, if consumed. However, as with Tubifex worms, it is advisable to empty the earthworms’ digestive system before feeding them to fish. Interestingly, earthworms are complex feed in terms of content – they contain all the substances necessary for successful fish farming. Earthworms are also used by gardeners to process organic waste in composting. If you want to try breeding earthworms yourself, you can give it a try. Put some old leaves in a container, cover them with soil, add a few individuals, and keep the humidity. To ensure enough food for earthworms, add decaying wood, kitchen waste, garden waste, or leaves from trees from time to time. I have passively tried to breed earthworms, and practically achieved no acceptable results.

Insects. Representatives of this vast class of arthropods are a source of various types of feed suitable for aquarists. Insects are the most overlooked source of nutrition, although fish commonly prey on insects in nature. They should constitute 5% of the diet. Many are a natural food source for fish in their natural habitat, such as dragonflies – Anisoptera, damselflies – Odonata, beetles – Coleoptera. Especially the so-called mealworms, a representative of the suborder Polyphaga, family Tenebrionidae Tenebrio molitor. They are mainly important in terrarium breeding, but aquarists can also use them, especially while their skin is still soft. Flies – Brachycera – once fly larvae were commonly used, cockroaches – Blattodea. Three families of orthopterans: crickets – Gryllidae, grasshoppers – Acrididae, katydids – Tettigoniidae, aphids – Aphidoidea, leafhoppers – Phasmatodea, moths – Lepidoptera, mysids – Mysisdacea – for example, Mysis relicta, stoneflies – Plecoptera, caddisflies – Trichoptera, mayflies – Ephemeroptera, mosquitoes – Nematocera, ants – Formicidae from the order Hymenoptera – only some fish consume the adults. Before catching a large number of insects, I would like to discourage you, please let the ants live.

Arthropods. For example, springtails – Collembola (common guests in our flowerpots – they move by jumping): for example, Hydropodura aquatica, Isotoma, Smithurus viridis, krill – Carnela – small crustaceans.

Mosquito – Culex pipiens is a common mosquito. It occurs abundantly, especially in lowland areas in riparian forests, and we probably all know it well. The larva of this mosquito is suitable for fish. Guppy breeders feed it to females before giving birth. In frozen form, it is usually available under the name black larva. If we catch them alive, we should ensure that the fish can eat the entire dose, as the metamorphosis of this creature is relatively fast. Otherwise, adult imagoes may emerge, which are hungry for our warm blood. I don’t know if it will be enough for you to say Baby don’t go crazy? ;-). If you don’t know, only females sting :-).

Fish. Fry or smaller fish can also be used as food. Roughly speaking, the size of the prey is determined by the size of the predator’s eye. Fish can eat fish without any problems if the size of the prey is smaller than the size of the predator’s eye. Predatory fish usually attack their prey in a certain way – some attack from the front, others from the back, or attack the head or tail. If we choose to feed in this way, we must be aware that our individuals will have an even stronger desire for fish and often even for their own offspring. Even non-living fish fillet, fish meat, beef heart contribute to these appetites. More cooked lean chicken and the above-mentioned beef heart are suitable as meat. Catching small fish in ponds, lakes, and watercourses is not allowed, and it is also risky in terms of disease transmission. After all, where fish live in nature, it is not appropriate to bring live material from there, due to the much higher possibility of transmitting disease-causing pathogens. If we want or need to have a source of fish for feeding, some livebearers are suitable: guppies, swordtails, platies, black mollies, or some egg layers: danios, but also angelfish, gouramis. A tank with 20 female guppies Poecilia reticulata and 510 males is more than enough for an average aquarium in an apartment – it guarantees, with certain rules, a constant supply of live food for a common aquarium.

Worms of the described animals live in various environments, in the ground, under tree bark, in water. Adult insects are best caught in nets in meadows with uncut grass.

Patentky – Larven der Zuckmücke Chironomus spp. – mehrerer verwandter Arten, z. B. ist Chironomus plumosus leuchtend rot. Fast alle Fische nehmen Patentky gerne an. Patentky kommen in großen Mengen in kaltem Wasser vor.

Koretry.
