Z minulosti samozrejme Matúš Čák, učiteľ Samuel Štúr – otec Ľudovíta (trencin.sk).

Trenčín patrí ku najstarším slovenským mestám. Najstaršie archeologické nálezy dokladajú prítomnosť človeka už pred 200 000 rokmi. Ešte pred príchodom Keltov viedla územím Trenčína cez Vlársky priesmyk jedna z vetiev „Jantárovej , ktorou putovali etruskí, grécki a neskôr rímski obchodníci zo stredomoria na Pobaltie (trencin.sk).

Rok 1585, 1656, 1710 a 1716 zasiahol mesto mor, v roku 1593 a 1625 povodeň. Rok 1897 je rokom, kedy nórska firma Gregersen postavila v meste nový oceľový cestný most cez Váh s dĺžkou 258 a šírkou 6 metrov.

Trenčín is the center of central , a significant hub for commerce, economy, culture, and sports (trencin.sk) and fashion (Wikipedia). The city has a tradition of hosting exhibitions and fairs. It is home to nearly 60,000 residents and is situated at an elevation of 204 to 210 meters above sea level. Covering an area of almost 82 km2, it comprises 10 cadastral territories: Hanzlíková, Istebník, Kubra, Kubrica, Orechové, Opatová, Trenčianske Biskupice, Záblatie, Trenčín, and Zlatovce (trencin.sk). In 1850, Trenčín had a population of 2,602, which increased to 7,011 by 1900 and 29,055 by 1970 (Retrospektivní lexikon obcí ČSSR 1850 – 1970). Its Hungarian name is Trencsén, German Trentschin, Latin Trentsinium, or Laugaricio. The Trenčín section of central Považie can be considered one of the most continuously urbanized agglomerations in Slovakia, with approximately 120,000 inhabitants in the vicinity, including Trenčín, Nemšová, Trenčianske Teplice, Nová Dubnica, Dubnica nad Váhom, Ilava, and Trenčianska Teplá. The Váh River flows through the city, which also hosts an airport serving both civilian and military purposes. The area includes the company Letecké opravovne Trenčín, a.s., specializing in the repair of aircraft and helicopters from around the world. Trenčín is also home to the Trenčianska univerzita Alexandra Dubčeka (Wikipedia).

The city features the Galéria Miloša Alexandra Bazovského, EXPO center exhibition hall, and hosts regular events such as the Pohoda festival and Jazz pod hradom. Within the EXPO center, Trenčín is known for its fashion events, textile and clothing technology salons, Zlatá Fatima – a competition for fashion and clothing producers, Beauty Slovakia, Aqua – an international exhibition of water management, hydroenergy, and environmental protection. The city is home to successful football and hockey clubs, AS Trenčín and Dukla Trenčín, respectively. Trenčín is recognized for its achievements in canoeing, handball, and floorball. Known as a hockey city, it boasts two winter stadiums, one named after Pavol Demitra and the other after Marián Gáborík. Notable personalities associated with Trenčín include filmmaker Pavol Barabáš, historian Vojtech Zamarovský, painter Miloš Alexander Bazovský, photographer Karol Kállay, writer Nataša Tanská, film producer Rudolf Biermann, director Igor Pietor, Ľubomír Vajdička, Václav Mika, actress Ida Rapaičová, Marta Sládečková, musician Richard Rybníček, longtime editor-in-chief of Mladé Letá Lýdia Kyseľová, clergyman Marián Gavenda, hockey player Zdeno Chára, and TV presenters Jarmila Lajčáková Hargašová and Soňa Müllerová Behulová, among others (Wikipedia). From the past, notable figures include Matúš Čák and teacher Samuel Štúr, father of Ľudovít (trencin.sk).

Trenčín is one of the oldest Slovak cities, with archaeological findings suggesting human presence over 200,000 years ago. Prior to the arrival of the Celts, one branch of the „Amber Road,“ traveled by Etruscan, Greek, and later Roman traders from the Mediterranean to the Baltic, passed through the Trenčín region via the Vlársky Pass (trencin.sk). In the Geographia by the Greco-Roman polymath Claudius Ptolemy (90 – 168), the city is referred to as Leukaristos (Renáta Kaščáková, Jozef Gertli Danglár).

Around the turn of the era, Germanic tribes, particularly the Quadi, displaced the Celts from the north and west, specifically from the Kvádi region. The Quadi, along with the Marcomanni residing in southern Moravia, engaged in frequent battles with the Romans. Evidence of these wars is the well-known Roman inscription on the castle rock, left by the II. auxiliary legion when it wintered here in 179 – 180 (trencin.sk). Translated, the inscription reads: „To the victory of the emperors and the army, which resided in Laugarícius, numbering 855 soldiers of the II. auxiliary legion, M.V. Maximianus, the legate of the II. auxiliary legion, had it made“ (Jurčacko). It is likely that Trenčiansky hrad was the seat of the Vag province at the end of the 10th and beginning of the 11th century, as mentioned in the founding charter of the Prague bishopric from 1086 (trencin.sk). In 1241, the city resisted a Tatar attack (trencin.sk). The greatest glory came to the city during the early 14th century under Matúš Čák Trenčianský (trencin.sk). On February 19, 1412, King Sigismund of Luxembourg granted Trenčín the status of a free royal city (trencin.sk). The city tower (Dolná brána) was part of the fortifications in the early 15th century (trencin.sk).

In 1548, Trenčín was home to 222 families, approximately 1,200-1,300 residents. In the years 1585, 1656, 1710, and 1716, the city faced plague outbreaks, while floods occurred in 1593 and 1625. In 1706, Trenčín had 1,880 inhabitants (trencin.sk). The plague column in the middle of the square was erected in 1712 as a memorial to the plague of 1710 (trencin.sk). On May 14, 1708, 195 houses burned down in the city. In 1787, Trenčín had 4,222 inhabitants. In 1790, a fire destroyed the castle, and in 1805, Russian Tsar Alexander passed through the city after the Battle of Slavkov. On August 26, 1813, František Palacký almost drowned in a flood. The year 1831 marked a cholera epidemic (trencin.sk). In 1886, a major fire swept through the city. In 1897, the Norwegian company Gregersen built a new steel road bridge over the Váh, measuring 258 meters in length and 6 meters in width. In 1904, Countess Ifigénia D’Arcourt donated Trenčiansky hrad to the city. In 1919, the population exceeded 10,000 residents (10,191) (trencin.sk).

In the second half of the 19th century, Trenčín became a significant trade and industrial center, with the construction of the railway. Since the late 19th century, the city has seen the development of industry, including textile factories, distilleries, and wood processing. During the First Czechoslovak Republic, the city’s textile, food, and engineering industries expanded. After 1945, exhibitionism became prominent (Wikipedia).

Turecko – zaujímavá hornatá krajina

Hits: 5323

Turecko leží pod Čiernym morom. Z dvoch strán ho obklopuje Stredozemné more. Susedí so Sýriou, s Irakom, s Iránom, s Arménskom, s Gruzínskom. Malá časť územia leží v Európe na Balkánskom poloostrove (Východná Trácia / Rumélia), väčšina územia leží v juhozápadnej Ázii – na poloostrove Malá Ázia (Anatólia). Obe časti oddeľuje úžina Bospor, Marmarské more a Dardanely (Wikipedia.sk).

V 6. Vytrvala do roku 1923, kedy Mustafa Kemal Atatürk založil republiku. 2 milióny grékov opustilo Turecko a do Turecka odišlo asi 500 000 moslimov rozprávajúcich grécky, albánsky a bulharsky z Grécka (Wikipedia.sk).

Dnes do Európskej únie (Wikipedia.sk). Zaujímavé sú skalné mesta v Kappadócii, národný park Pamukkale (orbion.cz). Vo východnom (najhornatejšom) Turecku pramenia Eufrat, Tigris a Aras (Wikipedia.cz).

Izmir, Trabzon (wikitravel.org), Bursa, Adana, Gaziantep (Wikipedia.cz). Istanbul je mesto rozdelené na európsku a ázijskú časť. Spojenie týchto dvoch kontinentov zabezpečuje Bosporský most (wikitravel.org).

Turkey is located beneath the Black Sea and is surrounded by the Mediterranean Sea on two sides. It shares borders with Syria, Iraq, Iran, Armenia, and Georgia. A small part of its territory lies in Europe on the Balkan Peninsula (Eastern Thrace / Rumelia), while the majority is situated in southwestern Asia on the Anatolian Peninsula. The Bosporus Strait, the Sea of Marmara, and the Dardanelles separate these two parts (Wikipedia.sk). Turkey is a mountainous country, with its eastern part being the most mountainous.

The territory of Turkey (Anatolia) is one of the oldest continuously inhabited regions globally, dating back to the Neolithic period (Wikipedia.sk). Approximately between the 18th and 13th centuries BCE, the ancient Hittite Empire existed in the present-day territory of Turkey. Later, Phrygia was established here. From the 7th century BCE, Lydia, Caria, and Lycia were present. From the 12th century BCE, the western coast was colonized by Aeolian, Dorian, and Ionian Greeks. Later, they also colonized the northern and southern coasts. In the 6th to 5th centuries BCE, Anatolia was conquered by the Persians, later by Alexander the Great, after whose death, it disintegrated into Hellenistic states: Bithynia, Cappadocia, Pergamon, and Pontus (Wikipedia.sk). Turkey boasts numerous ancient monuments, especially in Ephesus, Termessos, Hierapolis, and Istanbul (orbion.cz). By the end of the 1st century BCE, the Greeks were succeeded by the Roman Empire. After its collapse in 395, Turkey became part of the Byzantine Empire. From the 11th century, Turkish settlement occurred. In 1299, Osman I became the first sultan of the Ottoman Empire, which lasted until 1923 when Mustafa Kemal Atatürk established the republic. Two million Greeks left Turkey, and about 500,000 Muslims speaking Greek, Albanian, and Bulgarian moved to Turkey from Greece (Wikipedia.sk). A significant Kurdish minority resides in Turkey.

Turkey is a relatively large country with an area of 780,580 km2 (wikitravel.org), and it had over 68 million inhabitants in 2003 (Wikipedia.cz). Turkey’s foreign policy has been directed towards Europe since the 20th century. Turkey is a founding member of the OECD and joined NATO in 1952. Since 1959, when it applied for EEC membership, it has been actively seeking to join European economic structures. Today, it aspires to join the European Union (Wikipedia.sk). Rock cities in Cappadocia and Pamukkale National Park are among the interesting sites (orbion.cz). The Euphrates, Tigris, and Aras rivers originate in eastern (most mountainous) Turkey (Wikipedia.cz). The highest point is Mount Ararat, reaching 5,137 meters above sea level (Wikipedia.cz). It is a border peak with Armenia.

The capital of Turkey is Ankara. Other well-known cities include Antalya, the largest city Istanbul, Izmir, Trabzon (wikitravel.org), Bursa, Adana, Gaziantep (Wikipedia.cz). Istanbul is a city divided into European and Asian parts, connected by the Bosphorus Bridge (wikitravel.org). According to GDP, Turkey ranks 15th in the world (Wikipedia.cz). The most popular sport is football, with clubs like Besiktas Istanbul, Fenerbahce Istanbul, Galatasaray Istanbul, (Wikipedia.cz), and Trabzonspor, a football club known to fans, often making a significant impact in traditional European competitions. The national team achieved 3rd place in the 2002 FIFA World Cup.

7. Fotosession – 28.3.2010

On the last Sunday in March, another, already seventh, continuation of the event organized by the Photoclub took place – Fotosession. Throughout the day, I counted around 50 participants who took part in this pleasant event. We listened to several lectures and had the opportunity to talk among ourselves. The communal aspect was positively contributed to by a shared lunch. Among the participants of the event were also members of photoclubs from other cities, not only from Piešťany but, for example, from Galanta, Trnava, Nové , and . We also took the opportunity to inform each other about upcoming events in 2010.

At the beginning, Martin Štepka introduced primarily the benefits of the LaB color space. He showed us the possibilities of its use, especially in the Adobe Photoshop product. Martin demonstrated the size of the LaB space and its principle based on human perception.

V jej prednáške odznel termín „fotografika“, ktorým označuje svoje a podobné postupy umeleckej tvorby. Jej rozprávanie na mňa spravilo veľký dojem. Namáčanie papiera, tvorba negatívu, skenovanie a mnohé iné vo mne vzbudzovali rešpekt pred vynaloženou energiou, trpezlivosťou a zvládnutou technológiou :-).

Next was Katarína Mocáková, who talked to us about her journey into mastering gum bichromate printing. It involves the historical technique of creating photographs, which is quite unusual in today’s digital age. As we heard, Katarína Mocáková enjoys this artistic form, and I must say that I do too. I certainly wouldn’t engage in gum bichromate printing myself, but I really like the end results of her work :-). She also mentioned that she doesn’t know of anyone in Slovakia, except for herself and Rasťo Čambala, who is dedicated to something similar. In her presentation, the term „photografika“ was mentioned, which she uses to label her and similar processes of artistic creation. Her storytelling made a great impression on me. Immersing paper, creating negatives, scanning, and many other aspects evoked a sense of respect for the energy, patience, and mastered technology involved :-).

Dušan Beláň talked to us about local adjustments in Adobe Lightroom. It was presented as a tool for photographers, with the idea that over time, the situation might evolve to the point where photographers won’t need to open Photoshop for the vast majority of adjustments. Photoshop will be a tool for graphic designers, and Lightroom for photographers.

After lunch in the „wedding hall,“ we continued with the presentation of the project VOĽBY, in which Jozef Ondzík (also a practicing anesthesiologist) presented photographs from various authors, capturing different choices. We saw photographs during the voting process itself in the polling station, but especially shots taken during election campaigns. I was impressed by the incredible impartiality with which the photos were created. Finally, the entire presentation was in such a balanced spirit, where opinions on politics, and thus, of course, on the direction of society, were just one of many. There was no sense of any voter preference from the authors or the entire project. Martin Ondko expressed a similar sentiment in the discussion. The photos we saw are not 100% the ones that will be presented in the final project, but it was interesting that they were presented to a wider audience for the first time. As Mr. Ondzík said, our reactions were certainly beneficial for him.

As the last speaker, Joe Klamar, or Jozef Klamár, took the stage. A multiple winner of Czech Press Photo and other competitions, photographing for the French agency AFP, born in Jasna-Záhradky. Joe showed us a plethora of photographs that surely appealed to all of us. Although he mentioned several times that occasionally bad shots hit the screen from the data projector, he evidently failed to fulfill this idea. I had seen several of his shots before on paper in large format at exhibitions in Bratislava. First, he showed us photos from sports competitions, especially from skiing and ski jumping. Then we saw some powerful shots, for example, from Bosnia. We delved a bit into the issue of how to get to the right place. For example, during the official visit of the pope, or even what to do in a crowd during a demonstration. We also learned that journalism requires producing photos even when practically nothing is happening. Many times every day. We saw photos from Slovakia and a bit of free-form photography – horses in Muráň, and a few self-portraits. In the end, Joe returned to sports, showing shots from the Beijing Olympics, biathlon, and football.

According to Joe’s narrative, it was clear that he often suffers from a lack of time. Reportage photography doesn’t offer him many opportunities to create – it’s quite paradoxical, as Joe Klamar’s photos carry his signature and are infused with ideas. Despite having sometimes only half an hour, sometimes hours, but certainly not a day, from taking a shot for the agency to delivering it, Joe manages to create successfully. It happens that he sees his photos only when someone publishes them. On the other hand, he appreciates the many opportunities his work provides him. Joe would like to have more time for photography someday. Throughout the time, he appeared very modest, often saying things like „this can be done much better.“ One unexpected idea that caught my attention was when Joe mentioned, „Go shoot the African Cup in football – those guys still play for joy.“ After a generous dose of Joe Klamar, the seventh Fotosession ended successfully. I look forward to the next continuation of this good idea.

6. Fotosession – 25.10.2009

Téma: Zhotovovanie rôznorodých fotografických obrazov v meste Piešťany vo vymedzenom čase všetkými zúčastnenými fotografmi, s cieľom zachytenia subjektívnych individuálnych pohľadov na mesto a život v ňom. Ráno sme sa zišli v Kursalone, bohužiaľ kvôli pretrvávajúcim zrážkam v uplynulom týždni, v menšom počte. Bolo nás do 15 maximálne odhadujem.

Subjekt: Creating diverse photographic images in the town of Piešťany within a defined time frame by all participating photographers, with the aim of capturing subjective individual views of the town and life in it. In the morning, we gathered at Kursalon, unfortunately, due to persistent rainfall in the past week, in smaller numbers. I estimate there were a maximum of 15 of us. A long, truly very long time before that, the weather for being outside was quite terrible, but on Saturday, October 25, Piešťany seemed perfect for photography. I feel like everyone was capturing their own perspective.

In the evening, we met again, and the photographs were submitted in JPG format. The photos taken were then reviewed by the members of the club at their weekly meetings, and approximately 50 photographs were selected. These selected photos were exhibited in Kursalon for over a month. A nice idea, isn’t it?

5. Fotosession – 5.4.2009 – tentoraz som sa akcie nezúčastnil. / I did not participate in the event.

Predstavitelia SONY nám prezentovali fotoaparáty a objektívy svojej značky. Odhadom priniesli 8-10 fotoaparátov a cca 15 objektívov, zopár bleskov. Nechýbala ani najnovšia α 900. Skúšali sme aj objektív s dvoma nastaviteľnými svetelnosťami 2.8 a 5.6. Techniku sme mohli vyskúšať, ohmatať, cca do 16 hodiny. Bolo to každopádne prínosné.

Boli predovšetkým zmysluplné, plné emócii, skúsenosti, sebapoznania i poznania druhých. Odpovedala Martina Danková, Peter Ertl, Rasťo Čambal a Ivan Čaniga.

On October 26, 2008, the fourth meeting of photo clubs and photographers took place at the Kursalon premises, organized by the Piešťany Photo Club. Despite having it „at home,“ I chose to attend this event for the first time. The program was enticing, and I was curious about the execution. In the morning, we started with an introductory welcome, followed by a presentation from SONY. Representatives from SONY showcased their brand’s cameras and lenses, bringing around 8-10 cameras, approximately 15 lenses, and a few flashes. The latest α 900 was also part of the display. We had the opportunity to try and explore the equipment until around 4 p.m., which was undoubtedly beneficial.

Subsequently, Ivan Čaniga, a renowned photographer of international acclaim, presented his portrait photographs. He discussed possible solutions for portrait photography under time constraints, communication techniques, the role of light, creative freedom in photography, and more. We saw numerous photographs from various settings. The presentation extended beyond the planned time, and Ivan addressed several questions from the audience. After the presentation, during a somewhat more relaxed period, he also showed many printed photographs that garnered considerable interest, as evident from the photos below.

A moderated discussion followed, and I was quite curious about the outcome. Maroš Dubovský served as the moderator, later joined by Martin Ondko. However, there wasn’t a need for many questions from the audience; the answers from the guests likely surprised many. The responses were, in a way, lengthy but still short. They were meaningful, full of emotions, experiences, self-awareness, and insights into others. Martina Danková, Peter Ertl, Rasťo Čambal, and Ivan Čaniga participated in providing responses.

Výstava potrvá v priestoroch Kursalónu do 30.11.2008.

After an amazing discussion, we satisfied our stomachs, and a more relaxed program followed. I used this time to foster interpersonal relationships. In the afternoon, Edo Čupka presented photography from the International Jazz Piešťany jazz festival, which takes place for a significant part of the year at the Art Jazz Gallery near Winterova Street, not far from Kursalon.

Some attendees gradually bid farewell to us, while others joined us in the evening as we awaited the opening of the PhotoKursalon 2008 exhibition. Thirty-two participants entered the competition. The exhibition opening was combined with the announcement of the results. Everything went smoothly, and about 50-80 people attended the vernissage, based on my estimate. The exhibition will run at Kursalon until November 30, 2008. The mayor of Piešťany supported FotoSession not only with his personal presence but also by personally designating one of the prizes. He also contributed to the prize for the winner of FotoKursalon and, among other things, the winner of the previously held ParkFoto event. Piešťany is a beautiful place where art has always found its home. I hope it stays that way.

In the evening, around 7:30 PM, musicians, including Erich Boboš Procházka, Stanislav Počaji, and Caroline Hitland, showcased their artistry to us and the public. Erich is the king of Slovak blues and a recognized artist. Caroline Hitland is a Norwegian singer who acts as a flower among the leaves between Stan and Erich. You can judge her incredibly likable demeanor based on the photos below. Unfortunately, you can’t hear her singing, but it’s worth it! Of course, the guys were excellent as well.
