V minulosti bol známy aj ako . Prvá písomná zmienka je z roku 1241. V prvej polovici 17. storočia bol hrad rekonštruovaný (hradstrecno.sk). Jeho je dokladom vývoja stredovekej od gotiky po baroko. Hrad bol sídlom Františka Vešeléniho a Žofie Bosniakovej, nazývanej tiež „„, ktorej napĺňajú legendami aj dnes (Informačná tabuľa).

In 2017, it was listed as a national cultural monument (). A legend about Starhrad Castle tells the story of the beautiful Marienka and her beloved Milko (kamnavylety.sk). Neďaleko pod hradom tečie (hradstrecno.sk). vyvýšenina bola obývaná už v 13. storočí. Prvá písomná zmienka je z roku 1316 (strecno.sk). Vznikol pravdepodobne na staršom základe slovanského hradiska (Wikipedia).

Strečniansky Castle (Strechun, Strechyn, Streczen, Streczan, Strežín) is situated on a 103-meter-high cliff at an elevation of 440 meters above sea level (). The Strečno Castle is located on the main road and railway route – – Košice. The Váh River flows nearby beneath the castle (hradstrecno.sk). The castle hill was inhabited as early as the 13th century. The written mention is from 1316 (strecno.sk). likely originated on an older foundation of a Slavic hillfort (Wikipedia).

The architecture of the castle is evidence of the development of a medieval fortress from Gothic to Baroque styles (Information Board). In the immediate vicinity of the castle, there were two mills – one on the Váh River, the other located near the steward’s house beneath the castle along the road (pokladyslovenska.sk).
