Hits: 1660

The town of Chřibská is located in the westernmost part of the Lusatian Mountains, in the southern part of the Šluknov Hook. It is surrounded by the Kytlice Upland, the Lusatian Ridge, and the Jetřichovice Walls. It falls within the Protected Landscape Area of the Lusatian Mountains and the Labské Pískovce PLA, as well as the České Švajčiarsko National Park. The local parts of the town are Chřibská, Dolní Chřibská, Horní Chřibská, and Krásne Pole. The population is 1399 inhabitants (mesto-chribska.cz). The first written mention is from 1352, but according to an inscription on a stone, the town existed already before 1144. The German name is Kreibitz, of Slavic origin from the word Krzywycza, meaning meandering stream. The current name is Old Czech from the word chřib” – hill (mesto-chribska.cz). There was the oldest glassworks in Central Europe, already existing in 1414 (Alexandr Vanžura). After 1946, the population dramatically declined after the expulsion of Germans. Resettlement was not successful. Abandoned houses deteriorated, were destroyed, and many of them were demolished. Most notably in the years 1955, 1965, and 1967. Continuous lines of multi-story houses were demolished, and the square was practically obliterated. Many valuable folk houses. Many of these buildings were saved by cottagers, whose number almost equals the number of permanent residents (mesto-chribska.cz). Christoph Willibald Gluck (17141787) lived here in his youth; his father was a forester at the Kinsky’s stonemasonry estate from 1722 to 1727 (Jiří Kühn).

In the vicinity and directly in Chřibská, thousands of orchids grow in marshy meadows, for example, in the meadow near Brodský and in the Marschnerova Meadow nature reserve (Information leaflets).

Czechia is our western neighbor. We are connected to it by a common history. After all, it was only in 1993 that the federation of Czechoslovakia dissolved. The capital city is Prague. The so-called father of the country is Charles IV.

Česko tvoria Čechy, Morava a Sliezsko.

V 1. storočí sem prichádzali germánske kmene Kvádi a Markomani. Karol IV. pripojil Braniborsko, Lužice a Sliezsko (Wikipedia.cs).

In the 1st century, Germanic tribes, such as the Quadi and Marcomanni, migrated to this territory. According to some historians, for example, Balázs Komoróczy, there was an attempt by the Romans to create the province of Marcomania on part of the territory during the rule of Marcus Aurelius, with its center likely in southern Moravia, possibly in Mušov (Wikipedia.cs). By the beginning of the 5th century, the population decreased, with a part likely leaving in 409 with the Vandals and Alans. In the first half of the 5th century, due to the departure of the Marcomanni to Noricum, the region was affected. There was probably an influence of the Hun invasion led by Attila on the Morava in the late 5th century. By the end of the 5th century, against the current of the Elbe, the Lombards and Thuringians reached Bohemia. In the second half of the 6th century, Slavic tribes arrived here (Wikipedia.cs). In the 7th century, a part of the territory became part of the Samo Empire. In the 9th century, it became part of Great Moravia. Unification occurred in the 10th century through the efforts of the Přemyslid dynasty (Wikipedia.sk). The Czech Kingdom, established in 1198, reached its peak of power under the rule of the last Přemyslids and Charles IV. During the reign of Přemysl Otakar II, it extended beyond the Alps to the Adriatic Sea. Wenceslaus II acquired territories through Poland to the Baltic Sea, while Wenceslaus III gained Hungarian territories. Charles IV annexed Brandenburg, Lusatia, and Silesia (Wikipedia.cs).

Až do roku 1804 Česko patrilo k rímskonemeckej ríši.

Czechia was a significant part of the Holy Roman Empire, and its ruler held the position of an elector – a voter for the emperor. In the 15th century, Czechia was substantially weakened by the Hussites (Wikipedia.cs). Until 1804, Czechia belonged to the Holy Roman Empire.
