The first written mention is from May 31, 1243. In 1900, several flax processing plants, a brickyard, a locksmith’s workshop, and a wooden and stone sawmill were established in Spišské Vlachy (spisskevlachy.sk). A notable native was Professor and Bishop František Tondra (spisskevlachy.sk).
