Bojnice

Hits: 3745

Konávali sa tu so soľou, železom, drahými kovmi, šafranom. Prvý cech tu vytvorili ševci v roku 1653. Pôsobili tu murári, čižmári, krajčíri, tkáči, farbiari, kožušníci, debnári a iní. Do roku 1872 boli centrom hornej Nitry a okresným mestom (bojnice.sk). Bojnice sa v novodobých dejinách stali kúpeľným mestom a významným turistickým centrom. Teplé sa spomínajú v dokumentoch z 13. storočia. V roku 1918 vojsko opustilo a ponechalo v zdevastovanom stave. V Bojniciach sa nachádza kúpalisko Čajka, Mineralogické a banícke múzeum Jakuba Drevennáka a Múzeum praveku Slovenska – Prepoštská jaskyňa, kostol svätého Martina, kaplnka svätého Jána Nepomuckého (K. Csongárová, Anita Bogdanovičová).  mesta: tenista Miloslav Mečíř, humoristi Andrej Kraus, Juraj Mokrý, tenistka Karin Habšudová, hokejista Andrej Sekera, futbalista Juraj Kucka (Wikipedia).

Bojnice are situated at the southeastern foothills of the Little Carpathians, on the edge of the Upper Basin, at an elevation of 291 meters above sea level. With an area of nearly 20 km2, the town is home to 4,922 residents (Wikipedia). Bojnice is internationally renowned as a paleontological site and is among the locations with the oldest Paleolithic settlements in Slovakia. The first humans settled here approximately 100,000 years ago. It is believed that people from the Púchov culture constructed a hillfort on the castle hill, later adapted by the Slavs. Archaeological findings include pottery, iron artifacts, and evidence of tar production. Bojnice became a castle domain in the mid-9th century from the watchful settlement (bojnice.sk). The first written mention of Bojnice dates back to 1113 (Wikipedia). Historical names for Bojnice include Malmoz, Boymuch, Baymuch, Baymach, and Boynicze (informaciebojnice.sk).

Bojnice acquired town privileges in 1366. From 1613 to 1823, Bojnice served as one of the postal stations. The town hosted markets featuring salt, iron, precious metals, and saffron. The first guild, formed by cobblers, emerged in 1653. Other trades present included masons, cobblers, tailors, weavers, dyers, furriers, coopers, and more. Until 1872, Bojnice served as the center of Upper Nitra and the district town (bojnice.sk). In modern history, Bojnice evolved into a spa town and a significant tourist destination. Warm springs are documented in records from the 13th century. The military vacated the spa in 1918, leaving it in a dilapidated state. Reconstruction was hindered by a dispute over the inheritance of Count Ján Pálffy, finally resolved in 1938 (Wikipedia). Bojnice Spa focuses on treating musculoskeletal and nervous system disorders. Bojnice features the Čajka swimming pool, the Mineralogical and Mining Museum of Jakub Drevennák, the Museum of Prehistory of Slovakia – Prepoštská Cave, the Church of St. , and the chapel of St. John Nepomuk (K. Csongárová, Anita Bogdanovičová). Notable personalities from the town include tennis player Miloslav Mečíř, humorists Andrej Kraus and Juraj Mokrý, tennis player Karin Habšudová, hockey player Andrej Sekera, and footballer Juraj Kucka (Wikipedia).

Je sídlom mnohých medzinárodných organizácií spojených národov a iných inštitúcií, napr. OPEC-u.

V 18. a 19. storočí žili vo Viedni umelci ako Joseph Haydn, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Ludwig van Beethoven, Franz Schubert, Johannes Brahms, Johann Strauss (Wikipédia). V roku 1754 tu žilo 175460 obyvateľov. V roku 1850 551300, v roku 1900 už 1769137 a v roku 1910 2083630.

Viedeň je aj mestom vzdelania, pôsobí tu veľa univerzít: Academy of Fine Arts, Diplomatic Academy, Medical University, PEF Private University of Management, University of Applied Arts, University of Music and Performing Arts, University of Veterinary Medicine, University of Vienna, University of Economics and Business, University of Natural Resources and Applied Life Sciences, University of Technology, Webster University (wikipedia).

Vienna – Wien, Latin Vindobona, Hungarian Bécs, Slovenian , Croatian Beč, English Vienna has a population of 1.65 million. It is the seat of many international organizations, including OPEC. In the first century AD, there was a Roman legion camp and a civilian settlement called Vindobona. During the Marcomannic Wars (166 – 180), the Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius stayed here and died. The rule of the Romans ended around the 5th century with the arrival of Germanic tribes. The city is mentioned in written records in 881 as Wenia. In 1137, it is mentioned for the first time as Wien. Since 1156, the city has been the seat of the Babenberg family. After the extinction of this dynasty, Přemysl Otakar II claimed Vienna, but he was defeated by Rudolf I of Habsburg in the Battle on the Marchfeld. Under the rule of the Habsburgs, the city became the seat of the Holy Roman Emperor (Wikipedia).

In the 18th and 19th centuries, artists such as Joseph Haydn, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Ludwig van Beethoven, Franz Schubert, Johannes Brahms, Johann Strauss lived in Vienna (Wikipedia). Mengusovská dolina

Hits: 4702

Mengusovská Valley is among the most visited valleys in the High Tatras. Its first owner was Count Botyz, who acquired it in 1264. Remarkably, the valley remained in the possession of Botyz’s descendants, the Mariássy family, until 1897 (topky.sk). Hincov Creek flows through the valley, splitting into Hincová kotlina (Hinco’s Basin) and Kotlina Žabích plies (Basin of Frog Ponds) in the upper part. In Hincová kotlina, you can find the largest and deepest lake on the Slovak side of the Tatras – Veľké Hincove pleso. Additionally, there are Malé Hincove pleso and Hincove oká. In Kotlina Žabích plies, you’ll find Veľké, Malé, and Vyšné Žabie pleso. Towards the lower part, near the mouth of Zlomisková dolina, lies (wikipedia.sk). Mengusovská Valley is situated between Mlynická and Štôlska Valley.

Dolina Mengusovska należy do najczęściej odwiedzanych dolin Wysokich Tatr.

Tematín a Tematínske kopce

Hits: 8130

Patrí do katastra Lúka (Wikipedia).

Hrad tvoril: horný hrad – nádvorie, gotická hranolová veža, gotická útočisková veža – bergfrit, vstupná brána, vrcholnogotický palác, renesančný palác, juhozápadný rondel, juhovýchodný bastión, kaplnka, hospodárske , prvé predbránie, východná bašta, tretia brána, severné predhradie, severovýchodná a západná bašta, druhá brána s priekopou, predsunuté opevnenie, druhé predhradie (Zdroj: Informačná tabuľa).

Prevažuje teplomilná a .

Suchú a teplomilnú flóru zastupuje poniklec veľkokvetý Pulsatila grandis, chudôbka Draba lasiocarpa, rod kavyľ Stipa, zvonček sibírsky Campanula sibirica, lykovec voňavý Daphne cneourum, viaceré orchidei ako Orichis pallens, Dactylorhiza majalis, D. sambucina. Endemitom je nevädzník bádenský var. tematínsky Colymbada badensis var. tematinensis. Zo živočíchov tu žijú dva zriedkavé fúzače, fúzač alpský Rosalia alpina, a fúzač dubový Plagionotus arcuatus. Tematín is a ruin of a castle in western Slovakia, located in the mountain range (Ondrejka Jozef, 1966: Beckov, Tematín, Západoslovenské vydavateľské stredisko v Bratislave). This national cultural monument is part of the Tematín Hills, a protected area that has been designated a Natura 2000 site of European importance since 2004 (Regina Hulmanová). The castle was built in the southwestern part of Považský Inovec on a limestone-dolomite base at the peak of a side ridge extending west from Bezovec between the Lúčanská and Hrádocká valleys. With an elevation of 564 meters, it is one of the highest castles in Slovakia. It belongs to the cadastral area of the village of Lúka (Wikipedia).

The castle likely originated immediately after the Mongol invasion in 1242 on the site of an older hillfort, whose Slavic origins might be indicated by an analysis of its name, probably derived from the words „temä,“ meaning crown, and the Old Slavic word for fortified places, „týn“ (Wikipedia). In records from the last third of the 13th century, the name Temetyn is documented (webgarden.cz).

The first written record of the castle dates back to 1270 (Dušan Jurčacko). Since its inception, the castle served a signaling and guarding function, and along with Trenčín, Beckov, and Čachtice castles, it was part of the defense system protecting the northwestern passes of the Kingdom of Hungary. It also guarded an important ford across the Váh River, mentioned in a document from 1453 (Wikipedia). It was built as a royal castle to supplement border fortifications (Ondrejka Jozef, 1966: Beckov, Tematín, Západoslovenské vydavateľské stredisko v Bratislave). These castles were visually accessible to each other using fire signals and flags (tematin.org).

In the 13th century, the castle was violently seized by Matthew Csák of Trenčín. At the beginning of the 17th century, the castle came into the possession of Stanislav Turzo, who improved the outer bailey’s defenses. He invited Venetian armorer Angelo Ricciardi. In the mid-17th century, the Bercsényi family became co-owners of Tematín. Interestingly, Mikuláš Bercsényi, who later became the chief commander of Francis II Rákóczi’s troops, was born at the castle in 1665. Many items from Tematín Castle ended up in the manor house in Brunovce, as the Bercsényi family had been constructing this manor for some time. During the uprisings of Francis II Rákóczi, Mikuláš Bercsényi had the castle repaired and even established a permanent military garrison there (tematin.org).

The castle comprised the upper castle with its courtyard, Gothic square tower, Gothic refuge tower – bergfried, entrance gate, high Gothic palace, Renaissance palace, southwest rondel, southeast bastion, chapel, economic buildings, first barbican, eastern bastion, third gate, northern bailey, northeast and west bastions, second gate with a moat, forward fortification, and second bailey (Source: Information board). On January 22, 1710, Mikuláš Bercsényi’s troops suffered a defeat in the anti-Habsburg wars. He hid in the castle, from where he managed to escape, but imperial troops soon destroyed Tematín. Since then, the castle has been in ruins (tematin.org).

Two civic associations are striving to save Tematín: the Civic Association „Castle Tematín“ and the Association for the Rescue of Tematín Castle. They use fallen stones as building material, and only lime is added to the mortar, not cement. Classic concrete would absorb water, expand, and press against the original stones (Source: Piešťanský týždeň). In the past, the castle was only cleared of overgrown vegetation, and no significant wall stabilization occurred. The OZ Castle Tematín association uses a transitional phase material between limestone and dolomite, mostly sourced locally. The ruin suffers from static issues like cavernous wall collapse and linear cracks. Visitors‘ activities, such as climbing and knocking down loose masonry, have also contributed to the castle’s deterioration. The geological base is disrupted by karst phenomena. Before masonry work, historical-architectural research and approval of the procedure by the Monuments Office are carried out (Mojmír Choma, Barbora Šusteková, Matúš Žemlička, Ján Barič).

The Tematín Hills Nature Reserve was established in 1976. It is one of the four most interesting areas of this type in Europe. It stretches from the floodplain of the Váh River to the ruins of Tematín Castle (obecluka.sk), covering an area of 2471 hectares. This remarkable geobotanical area on the southern slopes of Považský Inovec, with its limestone-dolomite base, is home to West Carpathian vegetation. Thermophilous flora and fauna predominate. From early spring, snowdrops carpet the light beech forests, followed later by corydalis. Large-flowered and intermediate pasque flowers bloom on the rocks. The Adonis vernalis, locally called „black pepper,“ was commonly used for treating domestic animals, especially pigs and sheep (obecluka.sk).

The formation of xerothermic communities in the Tematín Hills is significantly influenced by the orientation of the slopes – the most extreme biotopes have developed on the south-facing slopes of crumbly dolomite. Historically, human activity, notably the clearing of forests during the Turkish wars, played a significant role in the process of aridization and the expansion of warm and dry-loving communities. In higher elevations and north-facing slopes, original Carpathian mountain communities have been preserved, such as Carpathian oak-hornbeam forests with patches of oak-cer forests and xerothermophilous oak forests. In higher areas, limestone-loving and submontane beech forests are present, and on small rocky ridges, scree forests of lime and maple have developed (sopsr.sk). Notable species include Onosma visianii, Dianthus praecox subsp. lumnitzerii, Adonis vernalis, Dictamnus albus, Verbascum phoeniceum, and Lunaria rediviva. Orchid species like Anacamptis pyramidalis and Limodorum abortivum also grow here. The area is the only isolated location in Slovakia for the alpine sedge Carex haleriana.

Tematín is the dominant feature of the Tematín Hills Nature Reserve, which is unique for its blend of Carpathian and Pannonian flora. On the southern slopes, species like Quercus pubescens, the endemic Sorbus dominii, Fraxinus ornus, and the introduced Pinus nigra can be found. The northern slopes are dominated by Fagus sylvatica and Carpinus betulus. The dry and warm-loving flora includes Pulsatilla grandis, Draba lasiocarpa, Stipa species, Campanula sibirica, Daphne cneorum, and various orchids such as Orichis pallens, Dactylorhiza majalis, and D. sambucina. The endemic Colymbada badensis var. tematinensis can also be found here. Among the fauna, two rare longhorn beetles, Rosalia alpina and Plagionotus arcuatus, inhabit the area. Other species include Cicindela campestris, Carabus coriaceus, Lacerta viridis, Aquila heliaca, and critically endangered snails Vertigo moulinsiana and Trichina filicina. Noteworthy are the steppe grasshopper Saga pedo and cicadas Tibicen plebejus and Cicada orni. The area is also home to Lucanus cervus, the Slovak endemic Brachysomus slovacicus, Zamenis longissimus, Coronella austriaca, Bubo bubo, Caprimulgus europaeus, Dendrocopos leucotos, Ficedula parva, Meles meles, Bombina variegata, Bufo viridis, Rana dalmatina, and several bat species including Rhinolophus hipposideros, Barbastella barbastellus, Pipistrellus pipistrellus, Myotis mystacinus, Nyctalus noctula, Myotis myotis, and Eptesicus serotinus.

In the Tematín Hills and the adjacent Váh floodplain, around two thousand species of butterflies have been identified – the most in Slovakia. Species include swallowtails, fritillaries, Parnassius mnemosyne, Marumba quercus, Hyloicus pinastri, Libelloides macaronius, Polyommatus slovacus, and Euplagia quadripunctaria.
