Považský Inovec – jadrové pohorie na západnom Slovensku

Hits: 11584

je jadrové pohorie na západnom Slovensku. Patrí do Fatransko-tatranskej oblasti. Od zástupcov hmyzu (fuzáče, , rôzne ) cez obojživelníky (salamandra škvrnitá, skokany), plazy (slepúch, jašterice, vretenica), (z dravcov ojedinele orol kráľovský a sokol rároh, myšiaky, jastraby, zo spevavcov napr. sýkorky, žltochvosty, ďatle) (Wikipedia).

Považský Inovec is a volcanic mountain range in western Slovakia, belonging to the Fatra-Tatra region. Stretching for 48 km with a variable width of 15 to 25 km, it covers an area of 600 km². The highest point of this diverse terrain is the peak Inovec at an elevation of 1,042 meters above sea level. The region has a complex geological structure and is rich in mineral water springs. The mountain range exhibits a variety of flora, with both thermophilic (heat-loving) and mountainous plant species thriving in the area. Human settlement in this region dates back to the Stone Age. Particularly in the northern part, there is a relatively high occurrence of mineral water springs, known locally as „kyselky.“ Among the most important springs are the thermal waters emerging through tectonic faults in , in the area of Kúpeľný ostrov. These thermal waters are a rare type of healing water reaching temperatures of up to 60 °C.

The area is abundant in wildlife, hosting various insects (beetles, stag beetles, different butterflies), amphibians (spotted salamander, frogs), reptiles (slowworms, lizards, vipers), birds (birds of prey such as the golden eagle and peregrine falcon, owls, hawks, and passerines like tits, wagtails, woodpeckers), among others. The name „Inovec“ is related to the fact that the summit of the highest mountain often glows similarly to an innovation. Among the notable landmarks are the Great Moravian court in Kostolec above the village of Ducové, the church of St. George near Nitrianska Blatnica, and the castles of , Topoľčany, Tematín, and Hlohovec. The cave Čertova pec under Havran has revealed the oldest cave settlement in Slovakia. Other interesting locations include Zoofarma Modrová and the peak.

Motýle

Hits: 2753

Patria medzi hmyz a článkonožce.

Butterflies rank among the most beautiful and fascinating creatures on Earth. Their vibrant patterns and graceful flight captivate both the scientific community and nature enthusiasts. Butterflies play a significant role in ecosystems as pollinators of plants. As they sip nectar, they touch flowers and transfer pollen from one flower to another, facilitating the fertilization of plants. Their contribution to biodiversity and the preservation of ecological systems is invaluable. Belonging to the order Lepidoptera, butterflies are classified as insects and belong to the group of arthropods.

Butterflies have a unique anatomy consisting of three main parts: the head, thorax, and abdomen. The head contains complex eyes, antennae for sensing the environment, and mouthparts adapted for sipping nectar from flowers. The thorax is where muscles and the wings of the butterfly are located, enabling it to fly. The abdomen serves for digesting food and houses reproductive organs.

One of the most astonishing aspects of butterfly biology is their metamorphosis. Their life cycle progresses through several stages: egg, larva (caterpillar), pupa, and adult butterfly (imago). During the pupal stage, transformative processes occur inside the chrysalis until a beautiful adult butterfly emerges. With over 150,000 known species of butterflies categorized under the order Lepidoptera, the basic categories include diurnal butterflies (Rhopalocera) and nocturnal moths (Heterocera). Each species boasts unique and intricate color patterns, serving not only for attracting mates but also for warding off predators.

Unfortunately, some butterfly species face threats, including the loss of their natural habitat and the impact of pesticides and climate change. Conservation efforts are crucial to preserving these delicate and valuable natural treasures for future generations. The presence of butterflies in nature enriches biodiversity and serves as a reminder of the fragility and rarity of natural treasures that we should strive to protect and conserve.

Braunsberg a jeho fauna a flóra

Hits: 2782

Chránená krajinná oblasť sa vyznačuje suchými trávnatými porastmi so vzácnymi druhmi živočíchov a rastlín, osobitne mimoriadne bohatou faunou hmyzu (naturland-noe.at). Nájdeme tu predovšetkým druhy obľubujúce slnečné, teplomilné, lesostepné až stepné lokality: modlivku zelenú – Mantis religiosa), ságu stepnú – Saga pedo, stepníka červeného – Eresus cinnaberinus, očkáňa skalného – Chazara briseis, včely murárky – Osmia mustelina, Osia mitis, koníka slovanského Stenobothrus eurasius (daphne.sk) a Hundsheimských hôr predstavuje dôležitý teplý ostrov na západnom okraji Panónskej nížiny.

Lesné časti tvoria najmä porasty dubov plstnatých – Quercus pubescens a javorov poľných – Acer campestre (daphne.sk). Na juhovýchodnom svahu rastie trpasličí kosatec – Iris pumila. Mnoho teplomilných, stredomorských druhov zvierat a rastlín tu nachádza ideálne životné podmienky, napríklad jašterica zelená – Lacerta viridis, kosatec fialový – Onosma austriaca, divozel fénický – Verbascum phoeniceum. Niektoré druhy endemitmi – Dianthus lumnitzerii (Wikipedia).

Charakteristický rastlinný a živočíšny svet Hainburských vrchov je prispôsobený suchému teplému panónskemu podnebiu a pochádza čiastočne z východných stepí, čiastočne zo Stredomoria. Šedý ďateľ, stredný ďateľ a čierny ďateľ tu nachádzajú bohatú potravu a dostatok starých a odumierajúcich stromov, do ktorých vytesávajú svoje hniezdne dutiny. Roháč potrebuje na svoj 3 až 5 rokov trvajúci vývoj hnijúce alebo koreňové pníky (zobodat.at).

Braunsberg has been part of the Braunsberg-Hundsheimerberg Protected Landscape Area since 1965. The mountains near an der Donau are the last outcrops of the Lesser Carpathians. The protected landscape area is characterized by dry grasslands with rare species of animals and plants, particularly an extremely rich insect fauna (naturland-noe.at). Here, you can find species that prefer sunny, thermophilic, forest-steppe to steppe habitats: the praying mantis (Mantis religiosa), the predatory bush cricket (Saga pedo), the ladybird spider (Eresus cinnaberinus), the rock grayling (Chazara briseis), mason bees (Osmia mustelina, Osia mitis), and the Eurasian locust (Stenobothrus eurasius) (daphne.sk). The fauna and flora of the Hundsheim mountains represent an important warm island at the western edge of the Pannonian Basin. Thermophilic species reach their western or northern distribution limits here. The vegetation consists of species-rich dry and semi-dry grasslands as well as extensive, naturally preserved oak and oak-hornbeam forests. The Braunsberg-Hundsheimerberg Protected Landscape Area has been designated a biogenetic reserve (naturland-noe.at). On Braunsberg, you can find majestic limestone rocks. Its slopes are covered with extensive rock steppes, dry and semi-dry grasslands, which were intensely grazed in the past, documented since the 16th century. At the beginning of the 20th century, cattle, cows, and goats grazed here. Remnants of the former pastures have been preserved to this day in small areas. Grazing has been partially restored through the use of the old and particularly robust Konik horse breed. In spring, feather grass (Stipa) and spring adonis (Adonis vernalis) bloom near the Celtic observatory. On Braunsberg, Lumnitzer’s pink (Dianthus lumnitzeri), Russian globe thistle (Echinops ritro subsp. ruthenicus), mountain madwort (Alyssum montanum), white stonecrop (Sedum album), and dittany (Dictamnus albus) grow. The forest areas mainly consist of downy oak (Quercus pubescens) and field maple (Acer campestre) stands (daphne.sk). On the southeastern slope, you can find the dwarf iris (Iris pumila). Many thermophilic, Mediterranean species of animals and plants find ideal living conditions here, such as the emerald lizard, Austrian greenweed (Onosma austriaca), and Phoenician mullein (Verbascum phoeniceum). Some species are endemics – Dianthus lumnitzerii (Wikipedia).

The characteristic plant and animal life of the Hainburg mountains is adapted to the dry, warm Pannonian climate and originates partly from the eastern steppes, partly from the Mediterranean. Many East-continental species reach their western distribution limit here, while southern sub-Mediterranean species reach their northern limit. Another peculiarity of the Hainburg mountains is the high proportion of locally distributed endemics. On sunny days, the bare plateau of Braunsberg heats up significantly. The resulting thermal currents are used by the golden eagle for its reconnaissance flights. The plant world of Braunsberg is very diverse due to the different living conditions. Already in early spring, large pasque flowers and spring adonis, and dwarf irises delight visitors with their colorful flowers blooming on the slopes from April. On the exposed limestone slopes, rock-dry grasslands with sparse pioneer vegetation, untouched by humans, grow. Only species adapted to dryness, such as stonecrop or houseleek, with their thick, fleshy leaves that serve as water reservoirs, can survive here. Regular mowing or grazing is necessary to preserve the dry grasslands created by human use. Experimental grazing with ponies, a robust breed of ponies from the Eastern European region, closely related to the forest tarpans, an extinct form of wild horse, is being implemented on Braunsberg. While the bare plateau of Braunsberg seems inhospitable and deterrent, the warm forests and scrublands on its slopes are friendly. For many species of animals, the sparse, old forests represent valuable living space. The larvae of various beetle species need old dry trees for their development. Woodpeckers also benefit from this. The grey woodpecker, middle spotted woodpecker, and black woodpecker find plenty of food and enough old and dying trees to carve out their nesting cavities. The stag beetle needs decaying wood or root stumps for its 3 to 5-year development (zobodat.at).

Hits: 5363

Winter is a season that brings with it its unique charm. It is a time when nature slows down its hectic rhythm and enters a state of vegetative rest. This is crucial for the Earth, for nature itself. Winter is a period when animals and some plants retreat to shelters, seeking an opportunity for rest and rejuvenation. During this time, certain plant species enter a state of vegetative rest, temporarily quieting their growth and development. It’s as if nature is holding its own breath, ready for the renewal of life in the next cycle.

Winter can be challenging for animals and plants, making environmental protection crucial. Sometimes, snow descends from the sky, breaking the light into thousands of diamonds that dance on the ground. The winter season also brings a plethora of joys and activities for people. Cross-country skiing, downhill skiing, sledding, and building snowmen are just some of the activities that characterize winter. Winter is not just a season of cold weather; it is a time of beauty, tranquility, and a unique perspective on the world around us. It teaches us about the importance of rest and renewal, not only for nature but also for ourselves. In the hushed landscapes covered by snow, we can find a certain magic that transforms the ordinary into the extraordinary.
