Bojnice Castle is situated on a travertine hill above the town of Bojnice. The first written mention of it dates back to 1113. Originally a wooden fortress, it was constructed on the site of an older hillfort. During the 13th century, it was rebuilt using stone as the property of the Poznanovce family (bojnicecastle.sk). Historical names of Bojnice Castle include Baimoz, Waymich, Baymuch, Baymach (hrady.sk), Boynicz, Bajmocz, Weintz, Bajmóc (hrady-zamky.sk). In the late 13th century, Bojnice came under the control of Matúš Čák of Trenčín. In 1489, it was owned by Matthias Corvinus, and until 1526, the castle was occupied by the Zápoľský army. After 1527, the Turzo family transformed the castle into a Renaissance residence. The Gothic fortress evolved into a Renaissance-style castle. From 1637, it belonged to the Pálfy family, who renovated it into a Baroque form. It underwent Romantic-style renovations from 1889 to 1910. A fire struck Bojnice Castle on May 9, 1950. Since 1970, the castle has been a national cultural monument (bojnicecastle.sk). Among its most significant parts are the Bojnice Altar by Nardo di Cione and the large tapestry “Joseph and His Brothers,” woven in Brussels in the early 17th century (muzeum.sk). Bojnice Castle organizes various events regularly, including the International Festival of Ghosts and Monsters, Valentine’s Weekend, Easter Walks at the Castle, Fairytale Castle, Knight Days, and Christmas at the Castle (muzeum.sk).
The castle is surrounded by a beautiful park (Peter Kaclík), featuring the Matejko Linden, which, according to legend, Matúš Čák of Trenčín planted in 1301 when the last king of the Árpád dynasty, King Andrew III, passed away (bojnicecastle.sk). This linden is likely the oldest tree in Slovakia (Wikipedia). Part of the Bojnice complex is a travertine cave with a diameter of 22 meters and a height of 6 meters. The castle residents were aware of its existence, using it as a refuge and water reservoir (bojnicecastle.sk). In close proximity to the castle park is the Bojnice Zoo.

V roku 2010 bol koncom roka veľmi silný prúd vody vo Váhu, preto otužilci šli do vody z iného miesta a bolo ich menej.
In Piešťany, it is a tradition for the polar bears, right after Christmas Day, to take a dip in the Váh River. Some try to make it to the other side of the bank, while others simply enjoy a refreshing swim in the cold water. I wonder if, at some point, a seal hunting demonstration will be part of the event.
In 2010, towards the end of the year, there was a very strong water current in the Váh River, so the enthusiasts entered the water from a different location, and there were fewer participants.
