Tenebrio molitor – Mealworms are suitable feed primarily for invertebrates (e.g., birds, mantises) but also for other species of terrarium animals. However, I recommend not feeding them to reptiles too frequently, as not every animal can easily digest their shell.” For reptiles, they are more suitable as a dietary supplement to add variety. Their significant advantage is their relatively long lifespan with minimal care and low cost (Peter Krajčí).

Zophobas morio – Superworms are worms similar in appearance to mealworms but significantly larger. This species is suitable as feed primarily for adult birds and larger reptile species such as agamas, chameleons, monitors, and others. From my own experience, I believe they are somewhat more suitable feed for reptiles than mealworms, as I have observed easier digestion, especially in chameleons. Nevertheless, for reptiles, they are still more suitable as a dietary supplement rather than the main source of food. They are relatively resilient, so they can easily live for several months with minimal care. Another advantage is their relatively low acquisition cost (Peter Krajčí).

Musca domestica (housefly – non-flying form) is excellent feed for smaller animal species or hatchlings. Commonly used in the breeding of Rhampoleon species, small chameleons, frogs, and mantises. Breeding is not demanding; wheat bran with milk is sufficient to keep the substrate moist. Flies consume it and lay eggs in it. The larvae also feed on this substrate. After a few days, they begin to pupate, and flies gradually hatch. It is ideal to divide the larvae into several containers to prevent the situation where thousands of flies hatch at once. Larvae and pupae should be transferred to the refrigerator to slow down their development, and as needed, they can be taken out to let the flies emerge. An advantage is the low-maintenance breeding. A disadvantage is the poorer availability and occasionally weak odor of the substrate (ideally, they should be kept somewhere in a basement or shed) (Peter Krajčí).

Do uzáverov odporúčam vyvŕtať malé otvory.

Nálevníky zlejem do takejto , zvrchu utesním filtračnou hmotou a dolejem čerstvú vodu. Do druhého dňa sa zväčša väčšina týchto malých živočíchov prepasíruje do čistej vody. Z tejto ich striekačkou vytiahnem alebo jednoducho zlejem a skŕmim rybám.

Rupice – Enchytraeus albidus – are soil decomposers, feeding on the decomposition of plant material. Their nutritional value is similar to whiteworms, grindal worms, or microworms. They can be bred in soil provided there is constant moisture in the ground. As a food source, decomposing wood, soaked bread, oatmeal, cooked vegetables, pasta, breadcrumbs, and biscuits can be used. The optimal breeding temperature is 16°C; they stop reproducing below 2°C and die at temperatures above 24°C. Therefore, a family house, basement, or some cooler place is suitable for their breeding.

Vinegar eels – Turbatrix aceti – vinegar eels. At room temperature, they live on average for 55 days, and at low temperatures, up to 10 months. Under good conditions, the vinegar eel culture can multiply twentyfold in 8 to 10 days. They can be bred, for example, in PET bottles containing vinegar and water in a 1:1 ratio. A small amount of apple, peach, or other fruit is added to the vinegar. Ideally, this fruit should be pureed in a blender. It is recommended to drill small holes in the caps. Vinegar eels are very small feed, even thinner than regular” microworms. A mesh sieve is used for straining – microworms are poured into a bottle with a neck that can be sealed from the inside, e.g., with cotton, cloth, or filter material. Ordinary wine bottles with a mostly straight, narrow neck are ideal for microworms. Microworms are poured into the bottle up to the narrowed part, sealed, and topped up with fresh cold water. Microworms are anti-gravity, and they tend to move towards cleaner water. Within 24 hours, most of these small creatures will migrate into clean water. They can be extracted from the water using a syringe or simply poured out and fed to fish. The substrate that was sealed can be poured back into a PET bottle with the culture.

Tubifex worms – Tubifex tubifex can be found in almost every stream in our area, but not in the quantities that are interesting for aquarium enthusiasts. Today, water is often pre-processed in treatment plants, resulting in less waste and nutrients. Tubifex worms, as known to aquarists, have a reddish-brown color. In nature, their color is variable and depends on the amount of oxygen in the water. Tubifex worms in nature can also be white. They are very suitable food, for example, for catfish, loaches, suckerfish, and small predatory fish. Mud circulates in their intestines long after they are caught. Therefore, they must be thoroughly rinsed and allowed to digest for at least three days after catching. They are very dependent on fresh water, much more so than live whiteworms, so they must be frequently flushed with water, or a constant flow of water is provided for them. It is suitable to keep them, for example, in shallow dishes placed at the bottom of the refrigerator.

Paramecium – the slipper ciliate (Paramecium), is not among the most suitable and nutritious feed, but sometimes it is necessary. Paramecium is bred in PET bottles. Ideal is accessible soft water and, of course, an existing paramecium culture, which is placed in water, and raw egg yolk is added as food for the paramecium. If soft water is not available, use at least standing water. It is advisable to breed paramecium in several bottles because, especially with abundant feeding, a large part of the paramecium is always removed from the culture, and it often happens that it disappears from one bottle. It is important that algae do not form in the bottle, so keep the culture in the dark. The bottles with paramecium should have a drilled cap to ensure air supply. Feeding paramecium is not without problems. Paramecium can be fed in a similar way to vinegar eels. Wine bottles with a narrowed neck that expands laterally are ideal for this purpose. Pour the paramecium into such a bottle, seal it from the top with filter material, and top up with fresh water. By the second day, most of these small creatures will migrate into clean water. They can be extracted from the water using a syringe or simply poured out and fed to fish.

Kaša vločiek a kefíru by mala byť skôr hustá.

Mikrami is a term used for various types of nematodes. They are classified as roundworms – Nematoda. They can reproduce even at temperatures of 10°C. Mikrami are fatty food with a high fat content. They can be bred in dishes – a margarine container works well for this purpose. As a nutritious substrate, in my opinion, kefir and ground oatmeal are the best options. Also suitable are yogurt, sour milk, sweetened milk, or ordinary sweet milk. Bread crumbs, water, or cream can also be used, but they have their disadvantages. Cream, for example, contains a lot of mikrami, but they climb the walls very reluctantly. If bread paste is used – a mixture of water and bread – mikrami climb the walls, but in smaller numbers. Sweet milk tends to spoil easily. I recommend grinding the oat flakes in a blender. The oatmeal and kefir mixture should be rather thick. It is advisable to have several cultures because over time, the environment becomes too acidic, and it is necessary to transfer the mikrami culture to a new one, usually after two to three weeks. Mikrami gradually consume food, reducing the mass content, so it is necessary to add solid parts. However, mikrami do not consume much, and over time, a lot of liquid substrate accumulates, which can sometimes lead to a massive number of mikrami on the walls, and their premature demise. The ideal room temperature is 20 – 25°C. It is advisable to keep mikrami in multiple containers. Under normal circumstances, mikrami spread evenly on the walls. Mikrami are fed by wiping them off the walls of the container with a finger, brush, piece of foam, etc. I recommend using a brush. Mikrami are very small feed, about 4 – 6 mm long, suitable for smaller fish, such as fry.

Grindal – Enchytraeus buchholtzi is related to the rupice Enchytraeus albidus but smaller. It occurs in South America and was accidentally imported in the humus of tropical plants. In nature, it feeds on decaying plant remains. Ideal for breeding are shallow dishes with a larger bottom area. Place moistened foam on the bottom. I exclusively feed grindal with small baby biscuits. Grindal is a soil organism, so it naturally prefers darkness. If we have it closed with an opaque lid, we can even keep it on the table, on a shelf, or in a closed cabinet. The foam should measure from 10 mm to 30 mm. Most of the grindal in a mature culture is found in the foam. If grindal suddenly stops reproducing or individual worms are small, the foam is likely too wet. In such a case, you can take the foam and rinse it under running water in the sink. During rinsing, you don’t have to worry about losing a lot of grindal; some will always remain in the foam. From my own experience, I can say that grindal is not a fatty feed. Even the nutritional values I have found indicate that grindal is roughly at the level of whiteworms or tubifex worms. Sometimes, especially if the foam dries out a bit, mites can appear. Small white creatures running around are quite visible even to the naked eye. They hinder the development of grindal and, if they multiply massively, can completely destroy it. In such a case, I use the contact insecticide Frontline, which I spray on the foam. It works immediately. Grindal doesn’t smell much, and I haven’t noticed any adverse effects on the fish. Grindal recovers from Frontline fairly quickly. You can also help it by moving grindal from another culture. Feeding grindal is very simple; just take the entire foam and dip it into the tank. The biscuit tends to stick well to the glass. Grindal can also be wiped off with a brush or finger. It is an excellent feed; its productivity allows feeding it every day. It has almost no smell, handling it is practical, its size is suitable for small fish, and even larger fish accept it.

Cyklop patrí do podradu Cyclopoidea, radu Podoplea, podtriedy Copepoda – veslonôžky, triedy Crustacea, kmeňa Arthtopoda – . Ide napr. o Cyclops albidus, C. strenuus, Canthocamptus staphylinus,  coeruleus, D. graciloides.

Drosophila melanogaster, commonly known as the fruit fly or vinegar fly, is perhaps one of the most widely utilized and understood organisms by biologists and medical professionals worldwide. It readily reproduces in captivity and has a rapid reproductive cycle. Genetic engineers have extensively used this tiny fly for research purposes, likening it to a lab rat. Fruit flies are used as feed not only for fish but also for birds and reptiles. Aquarists and terrarists prefer the so-called wingless form, known as the vestigial-antlered-strap form. This cultivated form of the fly has wings but cannot fly, with significantly stunted wings. They are also known as wine flies or vinegar flies. These small flies are excellent food, especially for freshly hatched reptiles (chameleons, rhampoleons, etc.) as well as small frogs, various species of aquarium fish, freshly hatched birds, and mantises. They are relatively easy to breed. Depending on the number of flies, one culture can last 2 – 5 weeks or even longer. Their small size (smaller D. melanogaster 1.5 – 2mm, larger D. hydei 2.5 – 3mm) makes them suitable feed for almost all small terrarium animals. However, they do produce a mild yeast smell due to the yeast used in their food substrate. A culture usually costs between 2 – 4 euros.

Daphnia are relatively sensitive to oxygen levels during transport. Therefore, it is better to transport them in so-called frames or with the least amount of water possible. They can be kept longer in a larger bucket, with a lower concentration of Daphnia and assuming nothing is decaying in the bucket. This is quite manageable during cooler periods of the year. In summer, you can aerate the Daphnia during the shorter daytime and, if it’s not 30°C outside, place them on the balcony at night.

Moina is a small species of Daphnia, growing up to 2.5 mm, found in calm waters, often of poor quality and heavily polluted, and lacking in oxygen. They reproduce asexually through parthenogenesis (without fertilization). This means that during favorable conditions, all individuals are female. Only when less favorable conditions arise do males suddenly appear, and sexual reproduction occurs, ensuring the transfer of genetic information. In spring, females hatch from eggs laid in the fall. They can be collected like cyclops and copepods, but the sieve may be less dense, for example, made from milliner’s silk or a so-called Dederon. Daphnia are larger than cyclops but are not as nutritionally dense because most of their bodies are water and a solid cuticle, which forms their skeleton. Moina achieves its highest yield under artificial culture conditions. For fish, it is a more energy-rich food than ordinary” Daphnia and can be compared to cyclops. Daphnia reach their highest abundance in summer.

Cyclops belongs to the suborder Cyclopoidea, order Podoplea, subclass Copepoda – copepods, class Crustacea, and phylum Arthropoda – arthropods. For example, Cyclops albidus, C. strenuus, Canthocamptus staphylinus, Diaptomus coeruleus, D. graciloides. Cyclops is very suitable fish feed, relatively nutritious, and a quality source of protein. Under certain conditions, it can also be cultured. Their population curves fluctuate greatly; it is not uncommon to catch a huge number of cyclops one day and almost none the next. Generally, their population peaks in spring and fall. Cyclops are quite predatory, so when feeding them to smaller fry, care must be taken to prevent them from depleting the population or harming the tank inhabitants.

Vlastne ide o to, aby celý obsah cirkuloval čo najviac, aby žiadne vajíčka nezostali stáť. Keď chceme žiabronôžku skŕmiť stojíme pred otázkou, ako ich dostať do akvária bez toho, aby sme ich tam preniesli bez soli. Keďže ide o veľmi malé potvorky, pomohol by napr. mlynársky hodváb, ak ho nemáte, vystačíte si aj s bavlnenou látkou. Ja cedím artémiu cez monofil. Dekapsulovanú – odslupkovanú artémiu používam úspešne ako suché krmivo.

Vírniky represent a distinct phylum Rotifera. They are highly suitable for feeding fish fry. Their name is derived from their typical movement – swirling, which they constantly exhibit. Vírniky are captured, for example, using nets made of milliner’s silk or monofilament. Some common vírniky species include Philodina, Synchaeta, Lepadella, Pterodina, Copeus, Euchlanis dilatata, Dinocharis, Keratella quadrata, Keratella cochlearis, Filina, Cephalodella, Brachionus, and Pedalion.

Artemia salina, commonly known as brine shrimp, belongs to the class Entomostraca. Brine shrimp predominantly used in aquaristics live in the sea. They are relatively small, up to 15 mm, much smaller than their freshwater relatives. Freshwater brine shrimp can be obtained first through frozen cubes in stores. Brine shrimp are sold from various locations – Russia, Canada, the USA, China. Their hatchability is a matter of quality. A 95% hatchability rate is an excellent parameter. The price also depends on this. Brine shrimp are a nutritious feed, allowing fry to grow quickly in height and width. However, when fish are maturing, it’s not recommended to feed them only brine shrimp. Artemia can be easily hatched, once you figure out the method for each batch. Unfortunately, the requirements for different types” and packaging of artemia vary. I’ve often witnessed dissatisfaction with the hatchability among acquaintances, while the same” artemia works perfectly for their friends. Purchased artemia are essentially artemia eggs. The eggs are poured into water, for example, into a bottle, to which 3 – 4 teaspoons of salt (2530 g per liter) are added to simulate seawater. Strong aeration is necessary. The goal is to circulate the entire content as much as possible to prevent any eggs from settling. Maintain room temperature, or slightly higher for faster hatching. About 24 hours later, a significant portion will have hatched. Personally, and like most aquarists I know, I let artemia hatch for 2 days – they are slightly larger then. Artemia hatch in about 1.5 days at 25°C. Among aquarists, it’s believed that brine shrimp can be one or two days old, depending on the hatching time and, of course, the type.” They only last a short time in freshwater – about 8 hours. For higher nutritional value and easier and more effective introduction of small artemia into the world, decapsulation is used. It removes the protective coat of the brine shrimp egg. When feeding brine shrimp, the challenge is how to get them into the aquarium without transferring them without salt. Since they are very small creatures, milliner’s silk could help, but if you don’t have it, cotton cloth will suffice. I strain the artemia through monofilament. I successfully use decapsulated artemia as dry feed.

March 15th – Scalare exhibition. Most scalare were from the well-known breeder Miroslav Príkazský. Scalare, along with guppies and swordtails, are probably the most famous fish kept in aquariums. These South American cichlids from the Amazon basin thrive in densely planted tanks. There are many varieties of scalare. In the past, the original scalare were of impressive proportions. A scalare should be kept in at least a 150-liter tank, which is 50 cm tall. Determining their sex is difficult; females have a smaller tumor on their head during the spawning period. A scalare is capable of having 1000 eggs, but the fry are very small and require strictly powdered live food. A scalare for breeding needs water pressure – a high water column, but if everything else is in good condition, they can spawn.

Súťaže akváriových rýb

Hits: 273

V strave rýb by mali byť zastúpené tieto lipidy: triglyceridy, fosfolipidy a voskové estery [1]. Pre samotný spôsob podávania potravy existujú niektoré zaujímavé nápady. Raz som bol svedkom rozhovoru, medzi dvoma chovateľmi. Jeden sa pýtal druhého: Čím kŕmiš ryby?” A on odpovedal: Rukou.” Granule vám takým zaujímavým mechanizmom spadnú do vody – netreba ich rukou vyberať. Obmedzuje sa tým možnosť nákazy. Osobne to považujem trochu za prehnané a reklamný ťahák. Existuje aj možnosť použitia krmítok. Existujú rôzne typy. Obzvlášť zaujímavá je možnosť použitia automatického krmítka. Dá sa kúpiť, alebo vyrobiť. Nadobúda význam pri vašej neprítomnosti.

Feed is very important, fish health depends on it. If we feed correctly, our fish will be in good condition. Of course, feeding should be specific to the species. For some species, one type of food is suitable, for others it may be risky. The most important thing is to follow two basic rules: do not overfeed and feed a varied diet. We distinguish several basic types of feed: dry, frozen, and live. Fish can find a source of nutrition in the aquarium itself. This includes leftovers from previously fed food, plants, algae, microorganisms, or even smaller fish. There are cases where a fish can survive without human intervention for up to 3 months. If you have a normally functioning tank and don’t keep any predatory or problematic species, don’t worry too much about what the fish will eat during your absence lasting three to four weeks. In this case, less is sometimes more.

When feeding fish, it is often necessary to wait until the fish get used to the new type of food – fish may refuse food. The reasons can be various, but if this feed is suitable for our fish, be patient. Fish nutrition should be varied; I recommend changing the source of feed as often as possible to ensure our fish have enough of everything they need. Feeding with fatty food is not recommended, as it can lead to infertility caused by ovarian disease or dropsy. Fish get used to their food. Some food they like immediately, others need to learn. Less experienced aquarists prefer food that floats on the surface, while more experienced ones prefer food that sinks to the bottom. Ideally, some food stays briefly on the surface and then sinks, while other food sinks immediately. If overfeeding occurs in the aquarium, it should be noted that even the best-prepared food will start to decompose over time. This brings many disadvantages – water cloudiness, lack of oxygen, and in extreme cases, food mold.

Feed in small portions. Only as much as the fish can consume within five minutes. Adult fish are usually fed twice a day. The same principle applies as with humans; it is better to feed less but more often than more but less often. Fry should be fed up to five times a day because their metabolism works very quickly and their digestive system cannot handle larger amounts of food. If we do not do this, we expose ourselves to the risk of starvation. Generally, we should prefer feed with low fat and ash (unidentified parts) content and higher protein and carbohydrate content. The essential amino acids for fish are: phenylalanine, histidine, isoleucine, leucine, lysine, methionine, tryptophan, valine, arginine, threonine. The diet of fish should include these lipids: triglycerides, phospholipids, and wax esters. There are some interesting ideas for feeding. Once I witnessed a conversation between two breeders. One asked the other, What do you feed your fish with?” And he replied, With my hand.” I would stick to that, even though the previous dialogue was a joke. But there is fish food on the market with a mechanism where you don’t come into physical contact with the food itself. Granules with such an interesting mechanism fall into the water – there is no need to pick them up by hand. This reduces the risk of infection. Personally, I consider it a bit exaggerated and a marketing gimmick. There is also the option of using feeders. There are different types. Especially interesting is the option of using an automatic feeder. It can be bought or made. It becomes important when you are absent.

Füttern Sie in kleinen Portionen.

Dry food

The method of preparing dry food varies. Very common are preparations in flakes, pellets, or pellets, tablets. Flakes can be accepted by practically all fish. Granules are coarser prepared food with different sizes. Flakes tend to float on the surface, granules sink to the bottom: Pellets stay on the surface for a longer time, but then they sink to the bottom. Tablets fall to the bottom or adhere to the substrate. Food is prepared, for example, by lyophilization, when it is usually in the form of cubes that need to be torn apart. Lyophilization is a method of food processing at very low temperatures – it is freeze-drying. The form can also be powdery (e.g., for fry). Live food is often lyophilized: cyclops, daphnia, artemia, gammarus. Some types of feed are so-called extruded, which means that the bonds in this feed have been disrupted or shortened. Extruded feed is more energy-efficient – less of this feed can be fed. Because fish expend less energy digesting it. The percentage representation of individual basic components of nutrition is similar to that declared on the packaging of individual feeds – fat (lipid), sugar (carbohydrate), and protein content. It is possible that the vitamin content is also listed somewhere, but rather only qualitatively – without numerical expression, as well as trace elements. The ash content should also be stated – i.e., undifferentiated parts. Fiber, or bulk substances, may be listed somewhere. The lower the ash content, the better. If you need a more nutritious diet, choose feed with a higher protein content. Conversely, if a diet that is more suitable, which should be given more and should be more difficult to digest, choose a high content of bulk substances or fiber. In dried form, preparations such as cyclops, daphnia, shelled artemia, spirulina, threads, etc., are prepared. Dry foods generally often contain these ingredients: fish meal, fillets, dried beef heart, breadcrumbs, oats, egg yolk. Good feed includes, for example, Spirulina, shelled artemia, Chlorella. Those who feed trout food must expect a higher fat content.

Trockenfutter

No ani vaječný bielok zrejme neostane rybami nepovšimnutý.

Alternative” Feed

As a substitute for natural food sources, a commonly available range of foods can be used. Many fish species eagerly accept peas. Remove the outer skin, crush slightly (according to the type of fish), and you’re ready to serve. Especially for newly hatched fry, boiled egg yolk is often used in the first few days. Be mindful of the decomposition of this material, as this very pure protein decomposes quickly. But even egg white will likely not go unnoticed by fish. Soaked, swollen oat flakes or groats are accepted by some larger fish species, as are partially cooked potatoes. Fruit is less suitable. Vegetables add variety: cucumber (e.g., for suckerfish or cichlids), melon, carrot, spinach (both fresh and frozen blended), Swiss chard, lettuce, zucchini, squash, cabbage, kohlrabi, broccoli, kale, Chinese cabbage, etc. Nettle is also suitable, for example. I blanch the nettle by pouring boiling water over it, then chop it up and freeze it. Pasta such as spaghetti, noodles, and so on can also be used as feed. Fish also accept rice (all of course cooked in clean water without salt). If we cook a larger quantity, what remains after feeding can be stored in the freezer. Sweet paprika is also very suitable for coloring fish. Some breeders make mixtures of various compositions, which they mix and keep frozen. In doing so, they ensure, among other things, a varied composition of food.

Alternative” Futter

Viele Fischarten nehmen Erbsen gerne an.

Nitenky je vhodné kúpiť živé, niečo hneď skŕmiť a potom vo svojej mrazničke zamraziť – potom budú nitenky v akceptovateľnej mrazenej podobe.

Frozen Feed

Frozen feed provides a valuable source of nutrition. It can be purchased at pet stores or obtained by catching and freezing it yourself, or by purchasing it in live form and subsequently freezing it. It is advisable to dose frozen food in smaller portions, also to allow it to thaw quickly in the water. It can also be fed by taking a larger piece of frozen food and dipping it into the aquarium. I have never thawed frozen food in advance, I can’t even imagine it realistically, like feeding in a farm where there are a hundred tanks, in this way. The market offers, for example, these types of frozen food:

  • mosquito larvae – Chironomus plumosus – very popular food for almost all fish. Sometimes combined with astaxanthin.
  • copepod – very suitable nutritious food for all types of fish,
  • daphnia – less nutritious food that contains a lot of water,
  • moina – tiny nutritious daphnia with less water in their bodies,
  • rotifer – tiny organism,
  • phantom midge – Chaoborus plumicornis – valuable feed that can be efficiently caught even in winter,
  • black mosquito larva – Culex pipiens – food that is qualitatively very similar to natural food for fish in their original environment in nature,
  • freshwater microcrustacean – a species from our temperate zone, reaching 1 cm in size,
  • Artemia – frozen form of the marine Artemia salina,
  • tubifex – I do not recommend buying frozen tubifex. I have never heard of frozen tubifex from a store that didn’t resemble mud. Tubifex should be bought live, feed some immediately, and then freeze the rest in your freezer – then the tubifex will be in an acceptable frozen condition.
  • beef heart – nutritious food suitable for some large American cichlids, for example,
  • fillet – blended fish meat – suitable feed especially for predatory fish,
  • gammarus – Orchestia gamacellus is suitable food for larger fish species,
  • fish meat – feed for predatory fish. Frozen marine fish for marine aquaristics are also available for sale,
  • shrimp – Leander adsperus – suitable food for larger fish species,
  • mysis – Mysis relicta is a small crustacean,
  • marine algae, spirulina, mussel meat, various mixtures – countless types of frozen feeds, which are gradually becoming more diverse.

Gefrorenes Futter

Live Feed

This type of feed is highly suitable for fish because it resembles the food they consume in the wild. We have the option to catch it in nature or cultivate it ourselves. It has a high content of vitamins, making it healthy for our fish. Arguments about infection are somewhat shaky in my opinion. There’s always a risk, but successful fish life is built on nutrition. Live food is irreplaceable. No sensible aquarist would source food from an infected location, and any minor infection should be manageable by well-fed fish. Live food also prompts larger fish to change their behavior more significantly, as the food actively moves. Live feed requires more care than fish. I have separate articles on many live feeds.

Lebendfutter

  • Hmyz. Mal by tvoriť 5 % potravy. Mnohé sú prirodzenou potravou rýb v ich domovine, napr. šidláAnisoptera, vážkyOdonata, chrobáky - Coleoptera. Najmä tzv. múčne červy, čo je zástupca podradu Polyphaga, čeľade Tenebrionidae Tenebrio molitor. Svoj význam majú z hľadiska chovateľstva hlavne v teraristike, no akvaristi ich môžu využiť, najmä kým je ich pokožka ešte mäkká. Muchy Brachycera – kedysi sa larvy múch bežne používali, švábyBlattodea. Tri čeľade rovnokrídlovcov Orthoptera: svrčky – Gryllidae, koníky – Acrididae, kobylky – Tettigoniidae, voškyAphidoidea, pakobylkyPhasmatodea, motýle – Lepidoptera, vidlonôžkyMysisdacea – napr. Mysis relicta, pošvatky – Plecoptera, potočníky – Trichoptera, podenkyEphemeroptera, komáre – Nematocera, mrave – Formicidae z triedy blanokrídlovcov - Hymenoptera - dospelce konzumujú radi iba niektoré ryby.Pred chytaním, zbieraním kukiel veľkého množstva by som chcel odradiť, nechajte prosím radšej mravce žiť.
  • Článkonožce. Napr. chvostoskokyCollembola (častý hosť našich kvetináčov – prejavujú sa skákavým pohybom): napr. Hydropodura aquatica, Isotoma, Smithurus viridis, krill – Carnela – drobné kôrovce.
  • Komár – Culex pipiens je komár piskľavý. Vyskytuje sa hojne najmä v nížinných oblastiach v lužných lesoch, pravdepodobne ho všetci dobre poznáme. Larva tohto komára je vhodná pre ryby. Chovatelia gupiek ňou kŕmia samičky pred pôrodom. V mrazenej forme je v ponuke obyčajne pod názvom čierna larva. Ak ich nachytáme živé, mali by sme dbať, aby ryby stačili požrať celú dávku, pretože metamorfóza tohto tvora je pomerne rýchla. ;-)”. Ak to neviete, štípu iba samičky :-).
  • Ryby.

Midge larvae – Chironomus spp. – several related species, e.g., Chironomus plumosus, are bright red in color. Almost all fish readily accept midge larvae. They occur abundantly in cold water.

Water beetles. If we catch daphnia, cyclops, we may also find water beetles (larvae of the phantom midge Chaoborus plumicornis, Corethra plumicornis) in our sieve, especially in cooler months. They are often found in aquarists’ sieves. They live in very cold water, under a thick layer of ice over the winter. Water beetles are transparent, almost glassy. They move by a shrinking-like motion. They are predatory, so we must not overfeed them to smaller fish. They are considered very valuable food, and are also available in frozen form.

Gammarus – Orchestia gammacellus is a crustacean found in water, commonly known as an amphipod. It belongs to the suborder Gamaridea – amphipods, order Amphipoda – crustaceans, subclass Malacostraca, class Crustacea. It is a crustacean.

Earthworms – Lumbricidae. Smaller species are suitable – Eisenia, Allolobophora, for example, for larger cichlid species, or even the most common species Lumbricus terrestris, if consumed. However, as with Tubifex worms, it is advisable to empty the earthworms’ digestive system before feeding them to fish. Interestingly, earthworms are complex feed in terms of content – they contain all the substances necessary for successful fish farming. Earthworms are also used by gardeners to process organic waste in composting. If you want to try breeding earthworms yourself, you can give it a try. Put some old leaves in a container, cover them with soil, add a few individuals, and keep the humidity. To ensure enough food for earthworms, add decaying wood, kitchen waste, garden waste, or leaves from trees from time to time. I have passively tried to breed earthworms, and practically achieved no acceptable results.

Insects. Representatives of this vast class of arthropods are a source of various types of feed suitable for aquarists. Insects are the most overlooked source of nutrition, although fish commonly prey on insects in nature. They should constitute 5% of the diet. Many are a natural food source for fish in their natural habitat, such as dragonflies – Anisoptera, damselflies – Odonata, beetles – Coleoptera. Especially the so-called mealworms, a representative of the suborder Polyphaga, family Tenebrionidae Tenebrio molitor. They are mainly important in terrarium breeding, but aquarists can also use them, especially while their skin is still soft. Flies – Brachycera – once fly larvae were commonly used, cockroaches – Blattodea. Three families of orthopterans: crickets – Gryllidae, grasshoppers – Acrididae, katydids – Tettigoniidae, aphids – Aphidoidea, leafhoppers – Phasmatodea, moths – Lepidoptera, mysids – Mysisdacea – for example, Mysis relicta, stoneflies – Plecoptera, caddisflies – Trichoptera, mayflies – Ephemeroptera, mosquitoes – Nematocera, ants – Formicidae from the order Hymenoptera – only some fish consume the adults. Before catching a large number of insects, I would like to discourage you, please let the ants live.

Arthropods. For example, springtails – Collembola (common guests in our flowerpots – they move by jumping): for example, Hydropodura aquatica, Isotoma, Smithurus viridis, krill – Carnela – small crustaceans.

Mosquito – Culex pipiens is a common mosquito. It occurs abundantly, especially in lowland areas in riparian forests, and we probably all know it well. The larva of this mosquito is suitable for fish. Guppy breeders feed it to females before giving birth. In frozen form, it is usually available under the name black larva. If we catch them alive, we should ensure that the fish can eat the entire dose, as the metamorphosis of this creature is relatively fast. Otherwise, adult imagoes may emerge, which are hungry for our warm blood. I don’t know if it will be enough for you to say Baby don’t go crazy? ;-). If you don’t know, only females sting :-).

Fish. Fry or smaller fish can also be used as food. Roughly speaking, the size of the prey is determined by the size of the predator’s eye. Fish can eat fish without any problems if the size of the prey is smaller than the size of the predator’s eye. Predatory fish usually attack their prey in a certain way – some attack from the front, others from the back, or attack the head or tail. If we choose to feed in this way, we must be aware that our individuals will have an even stronger desire for fish and often even for their own offspring. Even non-living fish fillet, fish meat, beef heart contribute to these appetites. More cooked lean chicken and the above-mentioned beef heart are suitable as meat. Catching small fish in ponds, lakes, and watercourses is not allowed, and it is also risky in terms of disease transmission. After all, where fish live in nature, it is not appropriate to bring live material from there, due to the much higher possibility of transmitting disease-causing pathogens. If we want or need to have a source of fish for feeding, some livebearers are suitable: guppies, swordtails, platies, black mollies, or some egg layers: danios, but also angelfish, gouramis. A tank with 20 female guppies Poecilia reticulata and 510 males is more than enough for an average aquarium in an apartment – it guarantees, with certain rules, a constant supply of live food for a common aquarium.

Worms of the described animals live in various environments, in the ground, under tree bark, in water. Adult insects are best caught in nets in meadows with uncut grass.

Patentky – Larven der Zuckmücke Chironomus spp. – mehrerer verwandter Arten, z. B. ist Chironomus plumosus leuchtend rot. Fast alle Fische nehmen Patentky gerne an. Patentky kommen in großen Mengen in kaltem Wasser vor.

Koretry.
