Ochranársky aspekt akvaristiky

Hits: 4731

Z hľadiska ochranárskeho, predovšetkým druhovej ochrany je už dnes veľmi zaujímavá možnosť v akvaristike ochrany druhu ex situ – to znamená mimo lokality prirodzeného areálu. Genofond sa oslabuje, práve preto by malo dochádzať ku spolupráci a ku vymieňaniu genetickej informácie, čo by viedlo ku zachovaniu biologickej hodnoty taxónu.

Navyše akvaristika má potenciál priniesť estetický prvok do našej domácnosti.

In terms of conservation, especially species conservation, there is currently a very interesting option in aquaristics for the ex-situ conservation of species – meaning outside the natural habitat. This is logical because aquarists usually keep subtropical and tropical species far from their original distribution. Several taxa are already decimated, so in the future, aquaristics could acquire this relatively new dimension. Where the protection in situ” is no longer possible, the option of aquaristics is very suitable. In-situ conservation is often not realistic because the original habitats of fish or plants have often ceased to exist – the ecosystem for the original organisms has been destroyed. Aquaristics is widespread worldwide, so the protection of endangered or already extinct taxa in nature can theoretically take place with a large number of breeders. It would not be amiss if conservation organizations or aquaristic organizations utilized this potential. The gene pool is weakening, which is why cooperation and the exchange of genetic information should take place, leading to the preservation of the biological value of the taxon.

An undeniable significance of aquaristics is bringing humans closer to nature. Anyone who even slightly gets involved with fish will probably feel closer to nature. Considering the fact that a person becomes an aquarist, who may have previously treated their environment indifferently, perhaps they will gain something positive, not only for themselves but also for a better relationship with nature, living organisms, and maybe even their own life. In the case of successfully breeding fish, parental instincts might be awakened. Similarly, in the case of diseases affecting our pets, caregiving instincts might be triggered. In my humble opinion, aquaristics is the most suitable breeding area for us, especially if we have limitations for keeping a certain creature. Fish don’t scream, they don’t smell much, and they are not very mobile. Moreover, aquaristics has the potential to bring an aesthetic element into our homes.
