Fotozáhrada

Hits: 4181

The Fotozáhrada is an event organized by the NOBAF club, taking place once a year in the Medical Garden in . It is an open-air exhibition of photographs. I participated in it in 2014, approximately for the third time. The report, however, is currently from 2013.

A ukážka parkúru, čo bolo veľmi nečakané.

In 2016, I participated in the event with photographs. It also included a live body painting demonstration and a parkour showcase, which was quite unexpected. Both presentations were a great contribution, not only photographically but also a feast for the eyes.

Landštejn – stavebno historická perla Českej Kanady

Hits: 328

Počas tridsaťročnej hrad stratil svoj strategický význam a postupne chátral.

Ďalšie renesančné úpravy nasledovali koncom 15. a v prvej polovici 16. storočia (hrady-zriceniny.cz). Zaujímavým prvkom hradu je kaplnka svätého Juraja, ktorej zasvätenie je prvýkrát spomenuté v roku 1495. Kaplnka mala valenú klenbu a v západnej časti tribúnu, odkiaľ majiteľ hradu sledoval bohoslužby. Zvyšky fresiek dokladajú výnimočnosť tohto miesta a pozornosť venovanú jeho výzdobe (hrad-landstejn.cz).

Dnes je hrad Landštejn obľúbeným turistickým cieľom. Návštevníci môžu voľne prechádzať romantickými ruinami, obdivovať ukážky raného hradného staviteľstva a z vysokej obrannej veže si vychutnávať krásy zvlnenej krajiny Českej Kanady (opravdova-laska.jiznicechy.cz).

Landštejn Castle, located in the area known as Bohemian Canada, is one of the most significant monuments of the early Middle Ages in the Czech Republic. Its massive ruins rise on top of a hill at an altitude of 656 meters, approximately three kilometers northwest of Staré Město pod Landštejnem in the Jindřichův Hradec district. Landštejn was built at the turn of the 12th and 13th centuries by an unknown builder. There are speculations that it could have been the Czech King Přemysl Otakar I or the Austrian dukes Leopold V and Leopold VI. The name „Landštejn“ refers to the builder, who was a landlord, or „lord of the land“ (hrad-landstejn.cz). The first written mention of the castle dates back to 1231, when it was the largest Romanesque castle in the Czech lands (en.wikipedia.org). In 1282, the castle was associated with Sezima of Třeboň from the Vítkovci family, whose descendants adopted the surname „Lords of Landštejn“ after the castle. The most prominent of them was Vilém of Landštejn, a skilled politician and military leader who undertook many diplomatic missions for Emperor Charles IV. After his death in 1356, the castle passed to the royal chamber and later, in 1381, was acquired by Konrád Krajíř of Krajku (hrad-landstejn.cz). The Krajíř family, originally from Styria, owned the castle for nearly two centuries. During their ownership, the castle underwent significant reconstructions, transforming it into a grand residence that ranked among the leading feudal estates in Bohemia in the first half of the 16th century (zajimavamista.cz). In 1579, Anna Roupovská, née Krajířová, sold the castle to Štěpán Eicink of Eicink. During the Thirty Years‘ War, the castle lost its strategic importance and gradually fell into disrepair. In 1771, a lightning strike caused a fire, leaving the castle abandoned. It became a ruin until extensive repairs began in the 20th century, with the first visitor season opening in 1990 (hrad-landstejn.cz).

The original castle core consists of two prismatic towers, a palace between them, and a high wall that enclosed the area into a pentagonal layout. During the 14th century, the castle underwent Gothic reconstruction, during which a residential donjon was built, and the entrance to the core was moved to its current location. Further Renaissance modifications followed in the late 15th and early 16th centuries (-zriceniny.cz). An interesting feature of the castle is the Chapel of St. George, first mentioned in 1495. The chapel had a barrel vault and a gallery in the western part from which the castle owner could observe services. Remnants of frescoes attest to the uniqueness of this place and the attention given to its decoration (hrad-landstejn.cz).

Today, Landštejn Castle is a popular tourist destination. Visitors can freely explore the romantic ruins, admire examples of early castle architecture, and enjoy the rolling landscapes of Bohemian Canada from the high defensive tower (opravdova-laska.jiznicechy.cz). The castle is owned by the National Heritage Institute and is open to the public during the tourist season. In addition to castle tours, it hosts various cultural events and exhibitions that highlight its rich history and significance in Czech history (hrad-landstejn.cz).

Landštejn Castle is among the most important architectural and historical landmarks of Bohemian Canada. It is one of the few castles where a significant Romanesque core has been preserved, unparalleled among neighboring Czech castles. One group of experts believes that the castle was built by Austrian or Bavarian nobility, while another argues that its first builder was a Czech king. The Church of St. John the Baptist in Pomezí, considered the settlement below Landštejn, was originally a Romanesque structure with strong ties to Austrian designs. Research revealed that settlement in Pomezí lasted until the 16th or 17th century, while the significance of the castle itself endured much longer (e-.cz). About a kilometer from Staré Město pod Landštejnem is a boundary stone marking the place where the original borders of Bohemia, Moravia, and Austria met. Hadí vrch was declared a nature reserve in 1988. These are former pastures with heathlands (Information board).

Odporučil by som hľadať chyby v sebe.

Terén – námestie SNP a okolie poznám výborne. Dav elektrizujúco hučal, bolo to magické, povznášajúce.

On the 3rd of February 2012, the so-called Gorilla Protest took place in SNP Square in . It was, according to all indications, the largest protest of Slovak citizens against the state of society and corruption since 1989. It was a photographic event for me; as a citizen, I probably would not have participated in such an action. Moreover, even if I did, I would likely have left shortly afterward because I would have become bored. I had and still have significant ideological differences with what the organizers wanted or constantly changed. Also, with how they behaved. Desiring direct democracy, making legislation through the Internet, discussing everything with everyone, barter, etc., are utopian and even crazy ideas that defy reality. The organizers themselves had nice ideals; they wanted to change and address everything. I had the feeling, and I discussed it with several people, that the leaders of the protests probably had no idea how the state functions. Moreover, when a leader talks about being just an ordinary person and does not feel like a leader, he rapidly loses credibility. These were too serious topics. It’s a pity that emotions strongly prevailed over reason, a pity that the organizers did not connect with intelligence, the cultural community. There was a lack of connection, cooperation. Instead, I perceived division. Today, almost a year later, they are probably frustrated that there is no will to change the state of public affairs, as I heard on television. It is a great pity that the potential against corruption was not utilized. That the forces broke up due to entirely different ambitions. I would recommend looking for faults within oneself. The declining interest in participating in the „Gorilla Protests“ reflects the reaction of all of us.

I have not experienced such a crowd force, as there was during the photography, when the crowd moved from the square. The terrain – SNP Square and its surroundings – I know very well. I was fortunate when the crowd moved from the square toward the Government Office; I was in one place for more than 10 minutes. The crowd was electrically buzzing; it was magical, uplifting. Despite the quite decent winter weather and the darkness that had already set in, my fingers were freezing. Below is the result of my efforts. A significant portion of the photographs is precisely from the time when the crowd was in motion.

Marhát

Hits: 13618

Z halštatskej doby železný sekeromlat a skýtske strelky. Neďaleko hradiska na južnom svahu Marhátu sa našlo osem otvorených nákrčníkov so stočenými očkami na koncoch, otvorený nákrčník so zašpicatenými koncami, dva kosáky s jazykovitou rukoväťou, sekerka s tuľajkou a postranným uškom, dláto s tuľajkou, dva tyčinkovité náramky s geometricky rytou výzdobou a plechový špirálovitý náramok bez výzdoby z doby 8. storočia p.n.l.. Nález spadá do lužickej kultúry. Z doby laténskej pochádza strieborná bójska minca s okrídleným koníkom z polovice 2. st. pnl., fragmenty spôn a strelky so spätným háčikom a spona s voľnou pätkou.

Z nich som pokračoval cez Výtoky, Moravany až do Piešťan.

Peak Marhát is the highest point of the Krahulčie vrchy, situated at an elevation of 748.2 meters above sea level. The summit hosted prehistoric settlements, including a hillfort from the late Bronze Age and early Iron Age. The Hallstatt hillfort was fortified with an embankment and stone structure, serving as a crucial guard point for the trade route across Považský Inovec from Ponitria to Považie. Terraced settlements have been preserved on the southeast slopes (idnes.cz). The name Marhát is derived from the names „Marharii, Mereheni,“ which referred to ancient Moravian tribes (rotundajurko.sk). As the trade route shifted over time, the significance of the hillfort as a guard post diminished. Ceramics and occasional findings of iron and bronze objects from the late Bronze Age and Iron Age have been discovered in the vicinity. Noteworthy artifacts include an Iron Age axe-hammer and Scythian arrows. Eight open neck rings with coiled ends, a neck ring with pointed ends, two sickles with tongue-shaped handles, an axe with a socket, a chisel with a socket, two rod-shaped bracelets with geometrically incised decorations, and a spiral-like metal bracelet without ornamentation from the 8th century BCE were found near the hillfort. This discovery is associated with the Lusatian culture. From the La Tène period, a silver Boii coin with a winged horse from the mid-2nd century BCE, fragments of buckles, and arrows with a barbed hook and a buckle with a free heel have been unearthed. Approximately half of the settlements from the Hallstatt period in the vicinity are located around the Marhát hillfort (nitrianskablatnica.sk). In the 9th century, a hillfort refuge was established on Marhát (Marek).

Marhát forms a barrier primarily protecting the villages of Nitrianska Blatnica, Vozokany, and Lipovník. Due to geological conditions, the terrain is very rugged. The historical context, majesty, and proximity of Marhát likely inspired the tradition of New Year’s Eve hikes, which began around 1947. On October 28, 1947, the people of Blatnica erected a large iron cross on the summit as thanks to God for protection during World War II (mana2.sk). The initiative for the construction came from the then-priest of Blatnica, Ján Laktiš (mana2.sk). The cross bore the inscription „God, protect the tourists.“ Later, an observation tower was built on Marhát, offering a beautiful view of the surroundings. Since the fall of 2008, a new 17-meter-high observation tower has been in place. It provides a view of the castles Tematín, Čachtice, Uhrovec, Gymeš, and Oponice (Piešťanský týždeň). Supposedly, under ideal conditions, the borders of the Czech Republic, Hungary, and Austria can be seen from Marhát (rotundajurko.sk). A new cross has now been placed at the highest point.

Climbs are always organized on December 31. Since 1971, these climbs have been organized under the auspices of organized tourists. Today, the climbs are organized by the Slovak Tourist Club TJ Bezovec Piešťany. Participants receive a diploma, primarily appreciated by children. An interesting idea was the Marhát euro-ducat in 2008. A small refreshment awaits tourists at the summit – bacon, sausages, tea. Fireplaces are prepared. Many find it useful to replenish their strength, have some fun, or at least greet and wish each other a happy New Year. Some even sing together. Many only meet this way on New Year’s Eve. Every year, a group photo is taken under the banner. These and other similar photos are a nice memory. Some of these photos from the past are on the shelters under the observation tower. The Bezovec club also has a chronicle of such photos. Summit books, containing many interesting references, are also archived under the observation tower. They offer a diverse picture of who comes to Marhát and from where. The event officially ends at lunchtime. Nevertheless, many continue to visit Marhát later. In recent years, attendance has exceeded a thousand participants.

I dare say that the behavior of people coming here is changing. They are more considerate each year. Due to the lower capacity of Marhát, people tend to separate into smaller groups at the summit and just below. Many come in groups. Participants also respect the request to refrain from using pyrotechnics in the mountains. Noise is allowed only in the form of bursts of laughter and sect shots.

The landscape on Marhát is always different from the lower elevations where the climb usually begins. It undoubtedly possesses a charm for which many are willing to tread the hills. It happens that there is mud at the bottom and a snowy blanket on top. Occasionally, there are innovations on the trees. Sometimes, it blows strongly; other times, the landscape is bathed in sunlight. Marhát can be reached by various routes, each slightly different. Shorter, easier routes suitable for bicycles and cross-country skis can be chosen. Most likely, many will opt for the route from Nitrianska Blatnica. On this route, you pass through „Jurko,“ a Romanesque rotunda of St. George, the second oldest structure from Great Moravia in our region. Pilgrimages are regularly held here several times a year. A slightly different character is provided by the shortest route from Vozokany or Lipovník. The route from Výtoky is very common. Especially downhill from Marhát to Výtoky can be done on sleds very quickly. Less common routes are from Modrá horárna, Stara Lehotka, Bezovec, Havran, Zlatý vrch, and Tematín. Of course, you can drive by car to Jelenie jamy and go only from there.

I consider the most beautiful route to be from Modrá horárna and Stara Lehotka. Usually, however, I take the bus to Vozokany, climb to Marhát, and then continue back through Jelenie jamy, Gonove lazy, to Výtoky. I pass by Striebornica, through Moravany, where I sometimes stop for a meal. Then I cross the spa island to Piešťany. Upon arrival, I am pleasantly tired after the kilometers walked, and I feel that I have done something good for myself and others. In 2009, the weather was the most beautiful I had experienced during my climbs. In the lower altitudes, the forests were shrouded in fog, while higher up, the sun peeked out, shining on the solid snow cover beneath a blue sky with clouds. I hope I have inspired you with a way to celebrate the last day of the year.

At the end of 2007, the bus took us from Piešťany to Nitrianska Blatnica. Then my journey upwards began on my own :-). This year, a lot of people came to the “ summit.“ I arrived around 11 AM. I wandered through the beautiful, snowy landscape. Organizers had prepared a bonfire at the top, where people grilled, warmed up, registered, and received tea, sausages, and bacon. Gradually, since I was also cold, I set off back, but by a different route. I went to Jelenie jamy, to the crossroads, and from there, I descended to Gonove lazy. From there, I continued through Výtoky, Moravany, all the way to Piešťany.

Trasa – Marhát – Piešťany – rok 2010

V roku 2010 som na Marhát prišiel veľmi neskoro, na vrchu už nebol skoro nikto. Pre fotografovanie to bolo svojím spôsobom veľmi vhodné. Navyše krajina bola v ten deň naozaj kvalitne zasnežená.

Bzovík – pevnosť neďaleko Krupiny

Hits: 2372

The Bzovík Fortress was originally a Benedictine, later Premonstratensian monastery from the 12th century, which was rebuilt into a fortress (Wikipedia). It was a mighty anti-Turkish fortress, created by the reconstruction of a Cistercian abbey founded around 1130 (slovakia.travel). It is located in the Bzovík Hills, in the Krupina Mountains (-zamky.sk).

The fortress is an example of medieval defensive architecture. It is built on a hill, which provided it with an advantage against attackers. The main component was the tower, which served not only for defense but also as a symbol of power. Today, this historical monument is the center of cultural activities. Various events, concerts, and art exhibitions take place in the courtyard. It also serves as a museum where visitors can explore the region’s history. The location offers views of the Hron River as well.
