V Žiline ZO Akvafit začala v decembri 2009 organizovať vždy každú prvú nedeľu v mesiaci v Dome techniky na ulici Vysokoškolákov, akvaristickú burzu. Akcia sa koná spolu s vtáčkarskou (exotárskou) burzou, ktorá sa koná už dlhé roky. Prvá akcia sa konala 6.12.2009 od 6:30 do 11:30. Exotárska časť vtedy skončila 9:30, ako býva zvykom. Aj mňa zaskočilo, že akcie sa konajú v nedeľu a ešte k tomu tak skoro ráno. Čudoval som sa, aj keď som vedel, že exotári to tak majú vo zvyku aj v iným mestách Slovenska. My sme sa na prvú burzu vybrali štyria z Bratislavy v dvoch autách. Jeden z nás dokonca ani nebral žiadny tovar. Aj my ostatní sme šli skôr naľahko oťukať terén. Okrem nás prišli aj Ostraváci, Poliaci, iní Bratislavčania a nejakí domáci. Veľmi sa nám páčili stoly, ktoré boli pevné a aj pekné. Páčilo sa nám aj množstvo ľudí, ktoré prišlo. Odhadujem viac ako 500 ľudí. My sme dorazili asi 5:45 na miesto a už sa aj trúsili pomedzi nás aj prví zákazníci. O siedmej hodine ráno tam bol nával. Po deviatej začalo ľudí evidentne ubúdať. Akvaristov prišlo samozrejme pomenej, ale to sa dalo očakávať. Exotári však neohrdli a popozerali aj našu ponuku a podaktorí utratili aj dáke euryčká. Ja som zase rád popozeral ich , ale eurá som minul iba na párky a kofolu v miestnom pridruženom „bufete„. Bufet bol zaujímavý – promptný, sympatický personál, predával sa aj PMDD. Snáď sa ho nik nenapil ;-). Akvaristická časť ponúkala , , , slimáky, suché, živé, mrazené. Najmä mrazené krmivo bol výborný tovar, plné auto ktorým ho istý Poliak doniesol, ostalo skoro prázdne. Mrazené ponúkali aj Ostraváci, okrem toho mali živé patentky, koretry, nitenky, dafnie aj mikry. Po akcii sme sa premiestnili tuším štyrmi autami ku Jankovi Budaiovi, kde nám ukázal jeho klenoty. Po odchode od Jana sme nabrali kurz .

Medzitým sa konalo už množstvo týchto búrz. Reakcie na ne neboli vždy len pozitívne. Pikošky, ktoré šli v Bratislave, v Žiline nechcel skoro nikto. Druhá takáto spoločná exotársko-akvaristická akcia bola 3.1.2010, čo je z môjho pohľadu hrozný termín. Napriek tomu prebehla ku spokojnosti všetkých :-)). Každopádne si myslím, takéto akcie sa nám páčili po každej stránke. Vďaka tradícii exotárov a pravidelnosti budú pre nás prínosom. Myslím samozrejme aj na pozíciu predajcov aj zákazníkov. Samozrejmé je aj to, že záujmy exotárov a akvaristov sa prelínajú aj odlišujú. Ich motivácia chovať aj kupovať je podobná. Teším sa preto na ďalšie akcie.

In Žilina, the Zoological Organization Akvafit started organizing an aquarium market every first Sunday of the month at the House of Technology on Vysokoškolákov Street in December 2009. The event is held together with an exotic bird market, which has been taking place for many years. The first event took place on December 6, 2009, from 6:30 to 11:30. The exotic part ended at 9:30, as is customary. I was surprised that the events take place on Sundays and so early in the morning, although I knew that exotic enthusiasts have this habit in other cities in Slovakia.

Four of us from Bratislava attended the first market in two cars. One of us didn’t even bring any goods; we were there to explore the terrain lightly. Besides us, participants came from Ostrava, Poland, other Bratislavans, and some locals. We liked the sturdy and nice-looking tables and were impressed by the number of people attending. I estimate more than 500 people were present. We arrived around 5:45 am, and the first customers were already mingling among us. By 7 am, there was a rush, and after 9 am, the number of people started to decrease. Naturally, fewer aquarium enthusiasts attended, but that was expected. Exotic bird enthusiasts also explored our offerings, and some spent a few euros. I enjoyed looking at their birds, but I only spent money on hot dogs and cola at the local „buffet,“ which was interesting – prompt service, friendly staff, and they even sold PMDD. Hopefully, no one drank it ;-). The aquarium section offered fish, plants, shrimp, snails, and various types of dry, live, and frozen feeds. Especially the frozen feed was excellent; a full car brought by a certain Pole was almost empty by the end. The Ostrava participants also offered frozen goods, along with live killifish, catfish, loaches, daphnia, and baby brine shrimp.

After the event, we moved with about four cars to Janko Budaio’s place, where he showed us his treasures. After leaving Janko’s, we set course for Bratislava. Meanwhile, several such markets have taken place. Reactions to them were not always positive. Trinkets that sold well in Bratislava were not desired in Žilina. The second joint exotic-aquarium event was on January 3, 2010, which, from my perspective, was a terrible date. Nevertheless, it went well to everyone’s satisfaction. In any case, we liked such events from every aspect. Thanks to the tradition of exotic enthusiasts and the regularity, they will be beneficial for us. I also think about the position of both sellers and customers. It’s evident that the interests of exotic enthusiasts and aquarium enthusiasts overlap and differ. Their motivation to breed and buy is similar. I look forward to future events.

Medzinárodná výstava bojovníc v Martine

ZO SZCH AKVA usporiadala medzinárodnú súťaž samcov bojovníc v dňoch 15.-16.9.2007 v Martine, v priestoroch Centra voľného času Kamarát na ul. A. Kmeťa 22. Súčasťou akcie bola aj kolekcia niekoľkých výstavných nádrži a burza akváriových rýb.

Sedím v reštaurácii, podotýkam v mexickej, je mi veľmi dobre. Polievka mi chutí ako málokedy, nevadí že je štipľavá ako čert. V uliciach Martina nie je veľmi rušno, vládne sobotná poludňajšia siesta a ja so Silvom si pochutnávame na obede. Asi po 5 lyžičke fazuľovej dobroty mi napadlo napísať svoje dojmy z v Martine. Slušne som sa ohlásil deň vopred, keďže ma chlapci v Martine poznajú.

Našiel som si spoločnosť, bolo mi potešením cestovať so Silvesterom. Obaja máme radi vzduch a voľný priestor, tak sme pekne krásne šli vlakom. Keď sme dorazili do Martina, zašli sme sa hneď ukázať, že sme krásni, zdraví a silní a sme tu. Veleniu výstavy sme oboznámili, že sme hladní, a keďže vlkov treba nasýtiť, tak sme šli nájsť nejaké ovečky. Obdoba amerického občerstvenia v matičnom meste sa nám nijako nepáčila, tak sme hľadali niečo vhodnejšie. Mali sme trošku problémy s navigáciou, akosi sme nevedeli podľa smerových šípok nájsť , ani iný podobný otvor, ale napokon sme sa úspešne ocitli na masívnom drevenom nábytku miestnej mexičanky. Zrejme pošleme demarš európskej únii s tým, že máme pocit, že apači by označkovali cestu na salaš lepšie. Budem galantný, a poviem že ja som sa naozaj výborne najedol. Rúno mi síce nezostalo, ale jedlo bolo božské a aj množstvo sa mi pozdávalo.

Na výstave nás pekne privítali. Zaujalo ma dobrovoľné vstupné. Martinský klub sa pochlapil, vyhotovil pre bojovnice pekné drevom obložené stojany. Na vrchu sa pýšil nápis „Medzinárodná súťaž bojovníc Betta splendens Martin 2007. Oficiálny názov akcie bol: Medzinárodné majstrovstvá Betta splendens, 3. kolo Martin 14.9.2007. Posudzovali: Holm Arndt, Slavomil Boudný a Ján Budai. Ako adept posudzovateľ bol prítomný Alfred Gorny. Predsedom posudzovateľskej komisie bol Janusz Oziomek. Posudzovalo sa podľa štandardu, ktorý preferuje SZCH, a ktorého takpovediac krstným otcom je Holm Arndt. Výstavy sa zúčastnilo 39 chovateľov zo štyroch štátov, ôsmich organizácií, ktorí poslali 90 kolekcií. Náš klub sa takisto zúčastnil vďaka Branislavovi Barčinovi. Riaditeľov výstavy bol Ľudovít Fujko.  Mňa osobne najviac oslovil samec Slávka Boudného. Okrem bojovníc tu boli pekné , kde boli okrem iného nádherné čiene, perlovky, krásne guramy perleťové, tetry cisárske. Ponuku pre návštevníkov dopĺňala burza rybičiek, rastlín a iného akvaristického tovaru. Ostatne pozrite sa na nižšie. Na akcii sme si vymenili najmä s martinskými kolegami, dokonca aj s pánom Norbertom Dokoupilom z Bratislavy. Veľmi ma teší, že som spoznal Igora Bukového z martinskej organizácie a pevne verím, že spolupráca s ním mne, aj nášmu klubu prinesie osoh. Dúfam, že sa vám fotografie budú páčiť a želám vám úspešný .

International Betta Exhibition in Martin

The SZCH AKVA Martin organized an international competition for male Betta splendens on September 15-16, 2007, in Martin, at the Center of Free Time „Kamarát“ on A. Kmeťa Street 22. The event included a collection of exhibition tanks and an aquarium fish exchange.

Sitting in a restaurant, a Mexican one, I must emphasize that I’m enjoying myself very much. The soup tastes like rarely before, even though it’s spicy as the devil. The streets of Martin are not very busy; the Saturday midday siesta reigns, and Silvo and I are relishing our lunch. After about five spoonfuls of bean goodness, I thought about sharing my impressions of the exhibition in Martin. I announced my arrival a day in advance since the guys in Martin know me.

I found good company, and it was a pleasure to travel with Silvester. Both of us enjoy fresh air and open space, so we had a nice and beautiful train journey. When we arrived in Martin, we immediately showed that we are beautiful, healthy, strong, and here. We informed the exhibition command that we were hungry, and since wolves need to be fed, we went to find some sheep. The local version of an American fast-food joint didn’t appeal to us, so we looked for something more suitable. We had a bit of trouble with navigation; somehow we couldn’t find the door according to the directional arrows, or any similar opening. But eventually, we successfully ended up on the massive wooden furniture of a local Mexican lady. We might send a demarche to the European Union, stating that we feel the Apaches would mark the path to the shepherd better. I’ll be gallant and say that I really ate well. My fur didn’t stay, but the food was divine, and I liked the amount.

We were warmly welcomed at the exhibition. I was intrigued by the voluntary entrance fee. The Martin club manned up, made nice wooden stands for the bettas, proudly displaying the inscription „International Betta splendens Championship Martin 2007.“ The official name of the event was: International Championship Betta splendens, 3rd round Martin on September 14, 2007. Judges: Holm Arndt, Slavomil Boudný, and Ján Budai. As an aspiring judge, Alfred Gorny was present. The chairman of the judging committee was Janusz Oziomek. Judging was done according to the standard preferred by SZCH, essentially created by Holm Arndt. Thirty-nine breeders from four countries and eight organizations participated, sending 90 collections. Our club also participated, thanks to Branislav Barčin. The exhibition director was Ľudovít Fujko. Personally, I was most impressed by Slavko Boudný’s betta male. Besides bettas, there were beautiful tanks with, among others, stunning Siamese fighting fish, pearl gouramis, and emperor tetras. The offer for visitors was complemented by a fish exchange, plant exchange, and other aquarium goods. Check out the photos below. At the event, we exchanged information mainly with Martin colleagues, even with Mr. Norbert Dokoupil from . I’m delighted to have met Igor Bukový from the Martin organization, and I firmly believe that cooperation with him will bring benefits to me and our club. Akvárium 2006 – MS Guppy 2006 a iné

V dňoch 7.-15.10.2006 sa v priestoroch botanickej v Prahe konala výstava akváriových rýb. Jej súčasťou bola aj výstava WGC – to znamená, že pražská výstava mala štatút majstrovstiev sveta v kategórií Guppy. Ďalšími súčasťami bola súťaž MČR Guppy a ME Xipho-Molly, tematické súťažné kolekcie halančíky, kolekcia divokých živorodiek, bezstavovcov a studenovodných rýb.

3. mezinárodní výstava halančíků

Výstava sa konala 22. – 25.06.2006 v Botanickej záhrade UK v Prahe, Na Slupi 15, 2. V nedeľu 25.06 sa konala dražba, ktorej sa zúčastnil aj Haláč, a nejaké rybičky tam aj vydražil :-)). Výstavy som sa zúčastnil veľmi rád, napokon sú to krásne po každej stránke. V rámci akcie sa konala aj predaj rýb a čiastočne aj techniky, pomôcok, atď.

Výstava niesla názov Akvárium 2005, konala sa v priestoroch Botanickej záhrady – Na Slupi 16, 120 00 Praha 2. Súčasťou výstavy bola aj výstava kaprozúbiek – halančíkov (cez 80 druhov) České halančíkarske společnosti, a Klubu přátel divokých živorodiek a nejaké spoločenské, typové, povedal by som všehochuť, a čosi sa dalo aj nakúpiť.

Aquarium 2006 – Guppy World Championship 2006 and Other Exhibitions

From October 7 to October 15, 2006, an aquarium fish exhibition took place in the premises of the botanical garden in Prague. It included the WGC exhibition, meaning that the Prague exhibition had the status of the World Championship in the Guppy category. Other parts of the event included the Czech Republic Guppy Championship, European Xipho-Molly Championship, thematic competition collections of swordtails, collections of wild livebearers, invertebrates, and cold-water fish.

3rd International Swordtail Exhibition

The exhibition took place from June 22 to June 25, 2006, at the Botanical Garden of Charles University in Prague, Na Slupi 15, Prague 2. On Sunday, June 25, an auction was held, attended by Martin Haláč, who successfully bid on some fish :-)). I was very happy to participate in the exhibitions; after all, these are beautiful fish in every way. The event also included the sale of fish and, to some extent, equipment, accessories, etc.

Aquarium 2005 – Czech Republic Championship Xipho-Molly + Poecilia reticulata

The exhibition was named Aquarium 2005 and took place in the premises of the Botanical Garden at Na Slupi 16, 120 00 Prague 2. The exhibition included a display of swordtails (over 80 species) by the Czech Swordtail Society and the Club of Friends of Wild Livebearers. Various types of tanks, including community tanks and type tanks, were also exhibited, and some items were available for purchase.

Akvárium 2006 – MS Guppy 2006 a jiné výstavy

Ve dnech 7.-15.10.2006 se v prostorách botanické zahrady v Praze konala výstava akvarijních ryb. Její součástí byla i výstava WGC – to znamená, že pražská výstava měla statut mistrovství světa v kategorii Guppy. Dalšími součástmi byla soutěž MČR Guppy a ME Xipho-Molly, tematické soutěžní kolekce halančíků, kolekce divokých živorodek, bezobratlých a studenovodních ryb.

Výstava se konala 22. – 25.06.2006 v Botanické zahradě UK v Praze, Na Slupi 15, Praha 2. V neděli 25.06 se konala dražba, které se zúčastnil i Martin Haláč, a nějaké rybičky tam i vydražil :-)). Výstavy jsem se zúčastnil velmi rád, nakonec jsou to krásné ryby po všech stránkách. V rámci akce probíhal i prodej ryb a částečně i techniky, pomůcek atd.

Výstava nesla název Akvárium 2005, konala se v prostorách Botanické zahrady – Na Slupi 16, 120 00 Praha 2. Součástí výstavy byla i výstava kaprozubek – halančíků (přes 80 druhů) České halančíkářské společnosti a Klubu přátel divokých živorodek, a nějaké nádrže společenské, typové, řekl bych taková všehochuť, a něco se dalo i nakoupit.

Rok 2006

Výstava sa konala v dňoch 28.9. až 1.10.2006 v DK města Ostravy, Třída 28. října 124. V rámci nej sa uskutočnilo záverečné 7. kolo ME Guppy, medzinárodné a české majstrovské akvaristov v kategóriách Guppy, Xipho-Molly, Betta splendens, expozícia teráriových živočíchov, hmyzu, hlodavcov. Prebiehal aj predaj rýb, vodných a bahenných rastlín, krmív, techniky, pomôcok, prírodnín, literatúry. Ja som sa zúčastnil 28.9.2006 s tým, že na nej sa malo uskutočniť stretnutie, na ktorom by sa dohodol vznik medzinárodnej organizácie podobnej ako je IKGH. IKGH je organizácia, ktorá koordinuje kluby, výstavy zaoberajúce sa gupkami a nová organizácia by združovala „priateľov“ Xipho-Molly. Žiaľ k ničomu nedošlo.

Práve v Ostrave sa mi prihodila príjemná vec. Spolu s kamarátom sme si pozerali a diskutovali o nich. Počul nás jeden návštevník, usmial sa a povedal: „Vy tady někde máte své ryby?“ My sme mu povedali: „Áno, máme.“ Potešil sa a potešilo to aj mňa, že pre niekoho to môže byť celkom zaujímavé vidieť pekné ryby a aj ich chovateľov. Výstava sa každopádne vydarila, ja sám som sa opäť stretol s ľuďmi podobnej krvnej a prehodili sme zopár slov. Dlho som sa v Ostrave nezdržal, ale svoj 8 hodinový pobyt považujem za prínos.

Vedúcim výstavy v rámci ME Guppy bol Milan Hrubý, medzinárodným posudzovateľom Krysztof Synowski. Posudzovateľmi boli Gernot Kaden, Jaromír Kubina, Boguslaw Micinski, Gerhard Ostrzil a Milan Stieranka.

The exhibition took place from September 28th to October 1st, 2006, at the Cultural Center in Ostrava, Třída 28. října 124. As part of it, the final 7th round of the European Championship in Guppy took place, along with international and Czech championship competitions for aquarists in the categories of Guppy, Xipho-Molly, Betta splendens, as well as an exhibition of terrarium animals, insects, rodents. The event also featured the sale of fish, aquatic and marsh plants, feeds, equipment, tools, natural materials, and literature. I attended the exhibition on September 28, 2006, with the expectation that a meeting would be held to discuss the creation of an international organization similar to IKGH. IKGH is an organization that coordinates clubs and exhibitions dealing with guppies, and the new organization would bring together „friends“ of Xipho-Molly. Unfortunately, nothing came of it.

Something pleasant happened to me in Ostrava. Together with a friend, we were looking at fish and discussing them. A visitor overheard us, smiled, and said, „Do you have your fish somewhere around here?“ We told him, „Yes, we do.“ He was delighted, and it also pleased me that it could be interesting for someone to see beautiful fish and their keepers. The exhibition was a success, and I met people of a similar interest group again, exchanging a few words. I didn’t stay in Ostrava for long, but I consider my 8-hour stay to be beneficial.

The head of the exhibition within the European Guppy Championship was Milan Hrubý, and the international judge was Krysztof Synowski. The judges included Gernot Kaden, Jaromír Kubina, Boguslaw Micinski, Gerhard Ostrzil, and Milan Stieranka.

Die Ausstellung fand vom 28. September bis 1. Oktober 2006 im Kulturzentrum von Ostrava, Třída 28. října 124, statt. Im Rahmen der Ausstellung fand das abschließende 7. Rennen der Europameisterschaft in Guppy statt, zusammen mit internationalen und tschechischen Meisterschaftswettbewerben für Aquarianer in den Kategorien Guppy, Xipho-Molly, Betta splendens sowie einer Ausstellung von Terrarientieren, Insekten und Nagetieren. Die Veranstaltung umfasste auch den Verkauf von Fischen, Wasserpflanzen, Futtermitteln, Ausrüstung, Werkzeugen, Naturmaterialien und Literatur. Ich besuchte die Ausstellung am 28. September 2006 in der Erwartung, dass ein Treffen stattfinden würde, um die Gründung einer internationalen Organisation ähnlich der IKGH zu besprechen. Die IKGH ist eine Organisation, die Clubs und Ausstellungen koordiniert, die sich mit Guppys befassen, und die neue Organisation würde „Freunde“ von Xipho-Molly zusammenbringen. Leider kam nichts dabei heraus.

Mir passierte etwas Angenehmes in Ostrava. Zusammen mit einem Freund betrachteten wir Fische und diskutierten darüber. Ein Besucher hörte uns zu, lächelte und sagte: „Haben Sie hier irgendwo Ihre Fische?“ Wir sagten ihm: „Ja, haben wir.“ Er freute sich, und es freute auch mich, dass es für jemanden interessant sein könnte, schöne Fische und ihre Halter zu sehen. Die Ausstellung war ein Erfolg, und ich traf wieder Menschen mit ähnlichem Interesse, tauschte einige Worte aus. Ich blieb nicht lange in Ostrava, aber ich halte meinen 8-stündigen Aufenthalt für nützlich.

Der Leiter der Ausstellung im Rahmen der Europameisterschaft in Guppy war Milan Hrubý, der internationale Richter war Krysztof Synowski. Die Richter waren Gernot Kaden, Jaromír Kubina, Boguslaw Micinski, Gerhard Ostrzil und Milan Stieranka.

Na konci októbra 2006 sa konal v Prahe 2. ročník Aqua Festivalu. Program sľuboval nasledovné – Český šampionát chovatelů skalár, Mezinárodní výstava tématických akvárií, prednášková odpoledne, představení činnosti českých a slovenských spolků, prodej akvaristických potřeb a literatury… Tentokrát bol jeho súčasťou šampionát skalárov. Podľa toho, čo som sa dopočul, tak predovšetkým českí akvaristi vytvorili pravdepodobne štandard, ktorý je akceptovaný medzinárodnou spoločnosťou. Ja som sa vybral do Prahy spolu so Silvesterom Valentinom 21.10.2006. Pekne sme sa odviezli autobusom Student Agency, ktorým sme mimochodom aj odcestovali, ráno sme boli už v Kongresovom centre neďaleko Vyšehradu. Chceli sme sa najprv naraňajkovať, ale akosi nás to stále ťahalo robiť niečo iné. To iné sa odohrávalo práve na výstave. Organizátori zrejme nesplnili celkom očakávania, malo byť vystavených ďaleko viac tematických akvárií, ja sa priznám, šiel som tam najmä na skaláre.

Atmosféra, ktorá vládla na festivale mne vyhovovala. Možno preto, že veľa ľudí poznám, každopádne cítil som sa výborne. Prítomní boli samozrejme predajcovia a poniektorí veru boli pre mňa aj zriedkaví. Prehodili sme vždy pár slov. ak sme sa na to cítili. V priebehu času dorazila z Bratislavy ďalšia skupina, došoférovaná Milom Peškom. Zhliadol som aj relatívne početnú skupinu okolo Pala Sedláka. Organizátori, konkrétne Vladko Bydžovský spomínal, že ho mrzí, že domáci pražáci, ktorých malo byť všade počuť, veľmi neprišli, ale zato slovákov tam bolo dosť. Iste nielen ja som si všimol, že aj nemecky hovoriacich tam bolo dosť. Je to škoda. V programe dňa, kedy sme tam my boli, t.j. v sobotu, bolo vyhlásenie výsledkov a . My sme absolvovali prednášku pána Jürgena Schmidta na tému juhovýchodnej Ázie. Rozprával o mnohých druhoch rodu Betta. Vzhľadom na dosť nízku účasť na celom podujatí v tom čase ma celkom milo prekvapilo, koľko ľudí bolo zvedavých na prednášku. Ďalšiu prednášku viedol Vladko Bydžovský. Prezentoval na nej svoje návštevy po rôznych chovateľoch. Orientovaná bola samozrejme najmä ma druhy rodu Pterophyllum. Videli sme zábery z kuchyne úspešných chovateľov a počuli sme mnoho užitočných chovateľských slov. Po vyhlásení výsledkov nasledovala prednáška Horsta Linkeho, pre ktorého sú zjavne skaláre dominantné. Pán Linke bol perfektne vybavený technikou na prezentáciu, čo ostatne mi malo byť jasné už po Bydžovského prednáške, kde sme videli aj akvaristické vybavenie Hosta Linkeho. Vskutku precízna práca. Pan Linke je určite zručný nielen v akvaristike. Ocenil som, že prednáška bola komplexná a pritom nie zdĺhavá (podotýkam, že bola prekladaná do češtiny). Videl som v nej použité dokonca novinové výstrižky o skalároch z obdobia snáď 19. storočia. Nepamätám si presne fakty, ale zaujalo ma to veľmi. Páčilo sa mi aj to, že pán Linke chová svojich skalárov v akváriách, kde je dno, . Bohužiaľ bežal a my sme museli ísť na autobus, takže sme odbehli z prednášky. Hádam niekedy nabudúce. Skaláre boli v 53 nádržiach. Zaregistroval som iba štyri tematické :-((((.

At the end of October 2006, the 2nd Aqua Festival took place in Prague. The program promised the following – Czech Championship of Angelfish Breeders, International Exhibition of Thematic Aquariums, lecture afternoons, presentation of activities of Czech and Slovak associations, sale of aquarium supplies and literature… This time, it included an angelfish championship. According to what I heard, Czech aquarists, in particular, probably set a standard that is accepted by the international community. I went to Prague with Silvester Valentin on October 21, 2006. We had a pleasant journey by the Student Agency bus, which we also used for our return. In the morning, we were already at the Congress Center near Vyšehrad. We wanted to have breakfast first, but somehow we were always drawn to do something else. That something else was happening at the exhibition. The organizers apparently didn’t quite meet expectations; there were supposed to be many more thematic aquariums, but I confess I mainly went there for angelfish.

I liked the atmosphere at the festival. Perhaps because I know many people, anyway, I felt great. Of course, there were vendors, and some of them were indeed rare for me. We exchanged a few words whenever we felt like it. Over time, another group arrived from , driven by Milo Peško. I also saw a relatively large group around Pal Sedlák. The organizers, specifically Vladko Bydžovský, mentioned that he regretted that the local Prague residents, who were supposed to be heard everywhere, did not come very much, but there were quite a few Slovaks instead. I certainly noticed, and I’m not alone, that there were also quite a few German speakers. It’s a pity. On the day we were there, Saturday, the program included announcing the results and lectures. We attended a lecture by Mr. Jürgen Schmidt on the subject of Labyrinth Fish of Southeast Asia. He talked about many species of the Betta genus. Given the relatively low attendance at the entire event at that time, I was quite pleasantly surprised by how many people were curious about the lecture. Vladko Bydžovský led another lecture, presenting his visits to various breeders, mainly focused on species of the Pterophyllum genus. We saw shots from the kitchens of successful breeders and heard many useful breeding words. After the announcement of the results, Horst Linke gave a lecture, for whom angelfish are evidently dominant. Mr. Linke was perfectly equipped with presentation technology, which should have been clear to me already after Bydžovský’s lecture, where we saw Linke’s aquarium equipment. Truly precise work. Mr. Linke is certainly skilled not only in aquaristics. I appreciated that the lecture was comprehensive and not overly lengthy (note that it was translated into Czech). I saw newspaper clippings about angelfish from perhaps the 19th century used in it. I don’t remember the facts exactly, but it fascinated me a lot. I also liked that Mr. Linke keeps his angelfish in tanks with substrate and plants. Unfortunately, time was running out, and we had to catch the bus, so we had to leave the lecture. Hopefully, sometime in the future. There were angelfish in 53 tanks. I only noticed four thematic aquariums :-((((.

Akvafestival 2005

Na konci októbra 2005 sa konal v Prahe 1. ročník Aqua Festivalu. Priestory boli obrovské – expozície boli stratené. Príliš honosné priestory, ale ktovie, možno raz bude plno aj na takejto ploche. Súčasťou bol Český šampionát chovatelů terčovců – 2. ročník. Terčovce boli rozdelené do kategórií, zastúpené boli formy od výmyslu sveta, zelené, modré, Haeckel, čerevené, spotted, plošný tyrkys, biele formy, diamant, kobalt, levia hlava, orange, škoda že pozadie na akváriách bolo otrasné. Boli to majstrovstvá ČR, ale boli boli tu zastúpené aj zo Slovenska, Nemecka, atď..

Aqua Festival 2005

At the end of October 2005, the first Aqua Festival took place in Prague. The spaces were huge – the exhibits were almost lost. The premises were too grandiose, but who knows, maybe one day there will be plenty even on such a large area. It included the Czech Championship of Discus Breeders – the 2nd edition. Discus were divided into categories, represented were forms from all over the world, green, blue, Haeckel, red, spotted, solid turquoise, white forms, diamond, cobalt, lionhead, orange. It’s a shame that the background on the aquariums was terrible. These were the Czech Republic Championships, but fish from Slovakia, Germany, etc., were also represented.
