Bombardovanie Prahy 14. 2. 1945 zničilo nemecké skleníky a české poškodilo.

V tropických skleníkoch dominujú vo vstupnej časti cykasy a palmy. Stredoeurópska flóra je zastúpená skalkovou časťou z Českého krasu, rastlinami z teplomilných skalných stepí, horských vápencových skál, dubohrabových hájov, lužných lesov a stojatých a pomaly tečúcich vôd. V inej časti sú zastúpené vodné, bahenné, úžitkové rastliny, rastliny piesočnatých biotopov, rašelinísk a slatín. Nachádza sa tu napr. zatienená skalka, stredoeurópska skalka (uk.cz).

The Botanical Garden of Charles University in Prague was founded in 1775 by Josef Bohumír Mikan, originally in Smíchov, on the site of the former Jesuit garden (Wikipedia). The roots of the Botanical Garden date back to the first half of the 14th century. A massive monastery garden, including an orchard and vineyards, was established at the Carthusian monastery. The monastery disappeared during the Hussite wars, but the garden endured (Jan Puci, Jindřich Drda). Today’s Dienzenhofer Gardens are remnants of the original botanical garden. It had nine greenhouses, cultivating around 13 thousand species and forms of plants. After the flood in 1890, it was relocated to Nové Mesto, where it acquired the Slupská Garden built by the Czech Society for Garden Enhancement in Prague (Wikipedia). The bombing of Prague on February 14, 1945, destroyed the German greenhouses and damaged the Czech ones. The Czech greenhouses were rebuilt between 1946 and 1949 (Kamila Špinarová). The area of the botanical garden is 3.5 hectares, with approximately 100 thousand visitors annually (Wikipedia). There are about 3,000 plant species in the outdoor areas (bz-uk.cz). The exhibition area of the greenhouses is 1600 m² (uk.cz). In the summer, the humid subtropics move to the outdoors and are divided according to continents. Both the greenhouses and outdoor areas are open year-round, and entry to the outdoor areas is free (Jolana Nováková).

In the tropical greenhouses, cycads and palms dominate the entrance area. The next section features ferns and plants from tropical forests, with a rich representation of the Araceae family in the herbaceous layer. Another section includes a pond with water lilies, while orchids are found on the back wall. The subtropical greenhouses are divided into wetter and drier sections. The wet one is used for overwintering plants from outdoor areas, while the dry subtropical greenhouse is dedicated to succulents (Tomáš Procházka). The outdoor exhibits include approximately 3,000 plant species. Central European flora is represented by a rocky part from the Czech Karst, plants from thermophilic rocky steppes, mountain limestone rocks, oak-hornbeam forests, alluvial forests, and stagnant and slowly flowing waters. Another part features aquatic, marsh, utility plants, plants from sandy habitats, peat bogs, and marshes. Examples include a shaded rock garden, Central European rock garden (uk.cz).

Nachádza sa časti: Austrália, Veľké hrubožce, Dom primátov, Savana, Vodný svet, India, Americké trópy, Madagaskar, Plazy, Margitin ostrov, Dom motýľov, Magické hory, Juhovýchodná Ázia (Janos Xantus dom) a Botanické špeciality (zoobudapest.com).

Budapest Zoo, deemed by many, including myself, as the most beautiful zoological garden, captivates visitors with its rich history, diverse exhibits, and unwavering commitment to wildlife conservation. Although my initial visit lacked the photographic prowess I now possess, I am eager to return, as expressed by Peter Kaclík. Founded in 1866, Budapest Zoo stands as one of the world’s oldest zoological parks, boasting a legacy of over a century and a half (zoobudapest.com). Beyond its historical significance, it has evolved into a global leader in wildlife conservation. Spanning over 100 hectares in the heart of Budapest’s Városligeti City Park, the zoo is divided into thematic sections that transport visitors across continents. From the Australian Outback to the Grand Savannah, Primate House, Water World, and the enchanting Magic Mountains, each section offers a unique perspective on the world’s ecosystems (zoobudapest.com). Budapest Zoo actively participates in international conservation programs, including captive breeding of endangered species and their reintroduction into their natural habitats. This commitment contributes significantly to the sustainability and revitalization of endangered populations, aligning with the zoo’s primary goal of biodiversity protection. Beyond its role in species conservation, Budapest Zoo serves as a vital education center. Through various educational programs, lectures, and workshops, it aims to raise awareness among the public about the importance of nature conservation. Additionally, it provides opportunities for professionals in biology and environmental conservation to engage in research and continuous learning. Budapest Zoo seamlessly combines beauty, history, and a commitment to preserving biodiversity, making it a must-visit destination for nature enthusiasts and those seeking to contribute to the protection of our planet’s wildlife.

Történelmi jelentősége mellett globális vezetővé vált a vadon élő állatok védelmében. Több mint 100 hektáron terül el a Budapesti Állatkert a város szívében, a Városligeti Városligetben, tematikus részekre oszlik, amelyek az egész világot bejárva mutatják be a különböző ökoszisztémákat. Az ausztrál Outback-től a Nagy Szavannán át a Prímáktól a Vízi Világig és a varázslatos Hegyekig, mindegyik rész egyedi nézőpontot kínál a világ ökoszisztémáira (zoobudapest.com). A Budapesti Állatkert aktívan részt vesz nemzetközi védelmi programokban, ideértve a veszélyeztetett fajok állatkertben történő szaporítását és visszatelepítésüket a természetes élőhelyeikre.
