Súviseli so zmenami intenzity slnečného žiarenia, zmenami pohybu a polohy Zeme, pohybom kontinentov, zmenami oceánskeho prúdenia, veľkými vulkanickými erupciami alebo dopadmi veľkých kozmických telies.

Fasko05

V každom prípade možno očakávať dlhšie, teplejšie a suchšie letá, miernejšie a daždivejšie zimy, kratšiu jar a a častejší výskyt extrémnych prejavov počasia.

, regióny aj štát potrebujú tieto dáta premietať do plánovania verejného priestoru, vodného režimu, zelenej a modrej infraštruktúry, ochrany zdravia, poľnohospodárstva, lesného hospodárstva a krízového manažmentu.

Pavol Faško’s contribution provided a comprehensive overview of the temporal and spatial changes in selected meteorological elements in Slovakia. Its strength lay in presenting the development of Slovakia’s climate within the broader global context of climate change. The author linked long-term time series of meteorological measurements, spatial differences between regions, the development of extremes and scenarios of future change. The result was a synthesis clearly demonstrating that climate change is not an abstract global phenomenon, but a measurable process with specific manifestations also within the territory of Slovakia. The presentation began by explaining the fundamental physical mechanism behind current warming. The natural greenhouse effect makes life on Earth possible by maintaining the planet’s average temperature at approximately +15 °C. Without it, the average temperature of the Earth would be approximately −18 °C. The problem is therefore not the greenhouse effect itself, but its intensification as a result of increasing concentrations of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. Current warming should therefore be understood as a change in the energy balance of the climate system, which in the modern era is predominantly influenced by human activity.

The Earth’s climate also changed in the past, but the causes of those changes were different. They were associated with changes in the intensity of solar radiation, changes in the Earth’s movement and position, continental drift, changes in ocean circulation, major volcanic eruptions or impacts of large cosmic bodies. The fundamental difference compared with the present lies in the rate of change. While natural climatic shifts generally occurred over much longer timescales, today’s warming is taking place within the span of only a few generations. It is precisely this rate of change that poses the greatest challenge to ecosystems, economies, settlements and society’s capacity to adapt. Global warming is also occurring unevenly. Land areas are warming faster than the oceans, the Northern Hemisphere more strongly than the Southern Hemisphere, and the greatest changes are occurring in the Arctic. According to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), which brings together scientific knowledge on climate change at the United Nations level, the land surface is warming faster than the ocean and the Arctic is warming at more than twice the rate of the global average.

This is also important for regional analyses, because the global average conceals substantial spatial differences. Climate change is therefore not merely a matter of a single average temperature value, but above all a question of regional impacts, changes in extremes and disruption of established climate regimes. An important consequence of increasing temperatures is also a change in the water cycle. Warmer air can hold more water vapour, approximately 7% more for every degree Celsius of warming. This does not automatically mean a uniform increase in precipitation, but rather greater potential for intense precipitation events, convective downpours and extremes. The climate system is thus becoming more dynamic, with an increasing number of situations in which dry periods alternate with short but very intense precipitation events. The long-term development of mean air temperature in Slovakia shows a clear upward trend. The presentation compared climatological normals documenting a substantial shift, particularly after 1990. While the mean temperature was approximately 7.5 °C in the 1931–1960 period and around 7.4 °C in 1961–1990, it reached approximately 8.6 °C in 1991–2020. This difference represents a real change in temperature conditions, the length of the growing season, the occurrence of heatwaves, the character of winters and the water balance of the landscape.

The shift in the ranking of the warmest years is particularly striking. Most of the warmest years have occurred since 2000, and 2024 ranked as the warmest year in Slovakia’s historical measurement record. According to the Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute, the spatially averaged annual air temperature in Slovakia reached 10.8 °C in 2024. In Hurbanovo, the mean annual temperature was 13.4 °C, while at Bratislava Airport it reached 13.5 °C, clearly illustrating the extent of the temperature shift in Slovakia’s lowland regions. The presentation also highlighted that climatic conditions are shifting spatially. In simplified terms, climatic characteristics can be said to be moving northwards and towards higher elevations. This has significant implications for agriculture and forestry, vegetation zones, the occurrence of pests, health risks and urban planning. The example of Hurbanovo, with values approaching those historically typical of warmer regions of southern Europe, illustrates well that climate change is manifested not only through extremes but also through a shift in what is considered “normal.”

In terms of seasons, the most pronounced increase in temperature in Slovakia and Bratislava is observed mainly during summer, although substantial changes are also evident in winter. The development of mean air temperature in Bratislava since 1931 shows an increasing trend in all months and seasons. Summers are becoming warmer, periods of extreme heat more frequent and winters milder, although considerable year-to-year variability remains. This combination results in greater heat stress for the population, increased pressure on urban greenery, higher consumption of water and energy, and more pronounced manifestations of the urban heat island effect. Unlike temperature, precipitation does not show such a clear and linear trend. Total annual or seasonal precipitation amounts have not changed as unequivocally over the long term, but their character is changing. Situations involving prolonged widespread precipitation are becoming less frequent, while the importance of intense convective rainfall is increasing. In practice, this means that the landscape may simultaneously face drought and torrential rainfall. Water does not always arrive at a time or in a form suitable for soils, vegetation or groundwater recharge.

The development of seasonal atmospheric precipitation totals in Bratislava since 1931 shows high interannual variability. Trends are less pronounced than those observed for temperature and cannot be interpreted as a dramatic overall decline. However, when combined with rising temperatures, they become highly significant. Higher temperatures increase evaporation and evapotranspiration, meaning that even with similar or only slightly lower precipitation totals, the water balance may deteriorate. Bratislava therefore faces a combination of increasing temperatures, high summer evaporation, episodes of drought and torrential rainfall, all of which increase the need for adaptation measures in the urban environment. A particularly clear indicator of change is the development of snow cover. In the lowlands of Slovakia, the number of days with snow cover is declining, with the decrease becoming particularly evident after 2013. In some years, only a very small number of days with snow were recorded in western Slovakia. According to the Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute, 2024 was also characterised by a lack of snow cover. At several meteorological stations, the number of days with snow cover was the lowest in the history of observations. At higher elevations, the situation is more complex because higher precipitation totals may still play a role and temperatures remain suitable for snow formation during part of the winter.

Climate change is also evident in phenology, meaning the timing of recurring life-cycle events in plants and animals. Spring arrives earlier, the growing season is becoming longer and autumn phases are shifting. In some years, the onset of spring may occur two to three weeks earlier, while warm autumns extend the period of active vegetation. On the other hand, summer droughts can cause premature yellowing and leaf fall. An apparently beneficial extension of the growing season can therefore become a stress factor when accompanied by water shortages, heat and extreme weather fluctuations.

Scenarios of future development indicate that Slovakia will continue to warm during the 21st century. Under more optimistic scenarios, the increase by the end of the century could amount to approximately another 1 to 2 °C, while under pessimistic scenarios it could reach as much as 5 to 6 °C. The difference between these scenarios is extremely important because it demonstrates that future development is not predetermined. It depends on global emission trends, as well as on society’s ability to adapt to unavoidable changes. In any case, we can expect longer, warmer and drier summers, milder and wetter winters, shorter springs and autumns, and a more frequent occurrence of extreme weather events. From the perspective of cities and landscapes, extremes are particularly important. Mean temperature is a fundamental climate indicator, but the greatest damage is often caused by heatwaves, droughts, torrential rainfall, floods, windstorms or hailstorms. The presentation highlighted an expected increase in the frequency of heatwaves, strong winds, hail and torrential precipitation. These phenomena have direct impacts on human health, agriculture, forests, transport and technical infrastructure, energy systems and the functioning of cities.

From a GIS perspective, the presentation is particularly important because it presents climate change as a spatially differentiated process. It is not sufficient to discuss a single average value for the whole of Slovakia. What matters is where the changes are most pronounced, which regions are most vulnerable, how snow cover is changing in lowland and mountainous areas, where drought risk is increasing, where heat stress is intensifying and where extreme precipitation events are becoming concentrated. Spatial analyses make it possible to connect climatological knowledge with spatial planning, water management, green-space management, transport, healthcare and emergency management. Pavol Faško’s contribution demonstrated that climate change in Slovakia is already a measurable reality. The most important finding is not merely the increase in temperature itself, but also the changing character of the climate: the increase in temperature extremes, transformation of precipitation regimes, decline of snow in lowland areas, shifts in phenological phases and the growing instability of conditions to which both the landscape and society have long been accustomed.

From a practical perspective, this leads to a clear conclusion. Climate data cannot be regarded merely as a description of the past; they must become a foundation for active adaptation. Cities, regions and the state need to integrate these data into the planning of public spaces, water regimes, green and blue infrastructure, health protection, agriculture, forestry and emergency management. The presentation was therefore not only a climatological overview, but also a strong argument that spatial decision-making must increasingly be based on data, scenarios and a spatial understanding of climate risks.

Kvety pridávajú farbu, textúru a život, ich krása je zdrojom radosti a potešenia, a ich prítomnosť oživuje priestor a dodáva mu charakter.

Plants represent an extraordinary world that forms the foundation of our planet’s biodiversity. This diversity plays a crucial role in maintaining ecological balance. Natural plants exhibit a diverse morphology. Roots serve to anchor the plant in the soil and acquire nutrients. Stems support the plant and facilitate the transport of water and nutrients. Leaves are the primary organs of photosynthesis, where solar energy transforms into chemical energy. Flowers are the reproductive organs, while fruits contain seeds essential for the plant’s life cycle.

Plants undergo complex physiological processes that enable them to survive and thrive. Photosynthesis is a key process where plants utilize solar energy and carbon dioxide to produce organic matter, releasing oxygen into the atmosphere. Respiration, transpiration, and water conduction are other vital physiological processes ensuring the life and functionality of plants. Plants are fundamental building blocks of ecosystems, serving as the primary producers, aside from a minimal number of chemotrophic organisms. They provide habitat and sustenance for diverse animal species.

Additionally, plants possess the ability to regenerate soil and purify water from unwanted substances and toxins. They are an integral part of human civilization, offering us food in the form of fruits, vegetables, grains, and other crops. Many plants exhibit medicinal properties, contributing to traditional and modern medicine. Furthermore, plants hold cultural and aesthetic values expressed through gardens, art, and symbols.

With increasing human activity and climate changes, natural plants are often endangered. Biodiversity loss, invasive species, and deforestation pose significant threats. Hence, it is crucial to implement protective measures, including preserving natural habitats, maintaining genetic diversity, and adopting sustainable soil management practices. The intricate relationship between humans and natural plants underscores the importance of conserving and sustainably utilizing this rich biological diversity.

Plantae mirabilem mundum constituunt, qui biodiversitatis fundamentum in nostro planeta collocat. Haec varietas partes fundamentales agit in conservatione aequilibri oecologici.

Hits: 22445

Žaby žijú vo vodných a vlhkých ekosystémoch, sú to obojživelníci – Amphibia.

Životný cyklus žiab zahŕňa štyri hlavné štádiá: vajíčko, larvu, žubrienku a dospelého jedinca.

Žaby tiež slúžia ako bioindikátory, pretože ich citlivá koža a špecifické ekologické nároky umožňujú monitorovať zmeny v kvalite a životnom prostredí.

Frogs, belonging to the class Amphibia, live in aquatic and moist ecosystems. They are amphibians characterized by their unique adaptations for both terrestrial and aquatic environments. Frogs typically have two pairs of limbs: the hind limbs are adapted for movement in water, while the forelimbs assist on land and help maintain balance. Many frogs produce mucus to protect themselves from desiccation and predators. They primarily feed on insects and invertebrates and are preyed upon by birds and mammals. There are over 7,000 known species of frogs, which are found on every continent except Antarctica.

Frogs are known for their ability to live both on land and in water. They possess a unique morphology adapted to their amphibious lifestyle. Frogs have two pairs of limbs: the forelimbs are shorter and weaker compared to the hind limbs. The hind limbs are highly developed for jumping and swimming. Their bodies are covered with a smooth, permeable skin that is crucial for respiration in low-oxygen environments. Frogs also have large eyes and auditory organs (tympanic membranes) that aid in orientation and communication.

The life cycle of frogs includes four main stages: egg, larva, tadpole, and adult. After fertilization, eggs are typically laid in an aquatic environment. The eggs develop into larvae, which have swimming tails and gills for respiration. During metamorphosis, larvae transform into tadpoles, developing limbs and gradually transitioning to air-breathing. Once metamorphosis is complete, tadpoles become adult frogs capable of living both on land and in water.

Frogs inhabit a variety of environments, including tropical rainforests, swamps, and even deserts. For example, some species prefer shaded, humid areas, while others are adapted to drier conditions. Frogs play a key role in controlling insect populations, contributing to the balance of ecosystems. Their presence is essential for maintaining ecological equilibrium.

Frogs are significant from both ecological and environmental perspectives. As insectivores, they help regulate pest populations and influence vegetation health and agricultural crops. Additionally, frogs are a crucial food source for many predators, including birds, snakes, and mammals. Frogs also serve as bioindicators due to their sensitive skin and specific ecological requirements, which allow for monitoring changes in water quality and environmental conditions.

Many frog species face threats due to human activities such as deforestation, pollution, and climate change. Habitat loss and water contamination can lead to dramatic declines in frog populations, with some species even approaching extinction. Conservation efforts for frogs include protecting their natural habitats, monitoring populations, and implementing measures to reduce pollution and climate change.

Rapsódia bocianov v Marcheggu

Hits: 7575

Marchegg – mesto bocianov – Storchenstadt. Leží neďaleko od hraníc zo Slovenskom – v podstate vedľa Devínskeho jazera (marchegg.at). Ďalšou atrakciou sú Viedenská brána – Wiener Tor a Uhorská brána – Ungartor (marchegg.at).

Marchegg – the City of Storks – Storchenstadt. It is located near the Slovak border, essentially next to Devínske Jazero (marchegg.at). Situated in Lower Austria, it is home to one of the largest colonies of white storks (Ciconia ciconia) in Central Europe (rakusko.sk). The city is famous for its high number of storks from March to August. It lies at an altitude of 141 meters and has approximately 3,650 inhabitants. It was founded in 1268 by King Ottokar II of Bohemia. A point of interest is the water castle built in the 13th century, originally serving as a hunting lodge (marchegg.at). In 1621, the water castle was acquired by Paul IV Pálffy, who owned estates in nearby Malacky, Plavecký Castle, , and Bojnice. The castle resembles the manor house in Malacky, as modifications were made by his descendants in coordination. Today, its interiors feature exhibitions about Ottokar II and the Pálffy family (Krno). The castle grounds include beautifully landscaped parks. Other attractions include the Wiener Tor (Vienna Gate) and Ungartor (Hungarian Gate) (marchegg.at). Today, the castle serves as a regional museum (tourist-channel.sk). Near Marchegg, there are natural reserves such as the Floodplain Forests and Kleiner Breitensee Lake. The area hosts the largest colony of tree-nesting storks in Central Europe, with 50 pairs of white storks – a stork principality (Krno). The first storks arrive in Marchegg in March from their wintering grounds in Africa. In May, chicks hatch, grow during the summer, and learn to fly. By late August, the storks begin migrating back to warmer regions, with the last ones leaving by October (rakusko.sk). The WWF March Auen – Morava Floodplains Reserve was established in 1970 and is part of the Ramsar Site Morava River Basin. The wetlands with floodplain forests are a rare ecosystem, as endangered as tropical rainforests (teraz.sk). Marchegg is surrounded by the Lower Morava Floodplains Nature Reserve, which spans approximately 1,100 hectares. This reserve is home to various bird species, including storks, and offers visitors the chance to observe them in their natural habitat. The floodplain forests and wetlands in the area provide ideal nesting conditions for storks (austria.sk).

Ich graciózna elegancia a zvedavý pohľad oslovujú takmer každého. Samozrejme, jej divoká forma žije v prírode. Domestifikované boli ako jedno z prvých zvierat. Datuje sa tento proces do staroveku. Ako už bolo naznačené, majú vysokú mieru rozhodovať o vlastných aktivitách samé. Existuje nepreberné množstvo plemien, ktoré majú rozličné vlastnosti. Od elegantných perzských mačiek po hravé bengálske. Sú prirodzenými lovcami. Majú sklon dlho spať, až 15 hodín denne, tým si udržiavajú energiu. Doroumievajú sa zvukmi, mňaukajú, brumkajú, syčia … Takýmto spôsobom komunikujú aj s ľuďmi. Majú výrazné oči a podľa nich poznáme náladu. Zúžené zrenice znamenajú radosť, hravú náladu, rozšírené sú znakom strachu a vzrušenia. Lízaním srsti sa čistia a odstraňujú nepríjemné vône.

Tieto štúdie nám pomáhajú lepšie porozumieť ich správaniu, zdravotným potrebám a vzťahu s ľuďmi.

Cats are amazing and independent creatures that are companions to humans all around the world. Their graceful elegance and curious gaze appeal to almost everyone. Of course, their wild form still exists in nature. They were domesticated as one of the first animals, a process dating back to ancient times. As indicated earlier, they have a high degree of autonomy in deciding their own activities. There is an endless variety of breeds with diverse characteristics, from elegant Persian cats to playful Bengals. They are natural hunters, and they have a tendency to sleep for long periods, up to 15 hours a day, to conserve energy. They communicate with humans through sounds like meowing, purring, and hissing. They have expressive eyes, and their mood can be deduced from them. Narrowed pupils indicate joy and a playful mood, while dilated ones are a sign of fear and excitement. By licking their fur, they clean themselves and remove unpleasant odors.

Their paws are extremely flexible, allowing them to move silently. Their teeth are adapted to a hunting lifestyle, with sharp cutting teeth for tearing meat and pointed canines for catching prey. Their eyes have large pupils that can quickly adapt to light intensity. Movements of their ears can reveal their mood or indicate the object of their interest. In the back of their ears, there is an exceptional organ – the vestibular apparatus – which helps them maintain balance and perform very precise movements. Their hearing is excellent, capable of capturing high-frequency sounds. Their sense of smell is also very sensitive, capable of recognizing the pheromones of other cats. In the presence of their owners or other cats, they deepen their voice – purring – expressing joy or affection. The body temperature of cats is 38-39 °C, allowing them to be efficient hunters and maintain warmth in colder environments.

Cats were domesticated approximately 9,500 years ago in the Middle East, where they formed a bond with humans thanks to their ability to control rodent populations in stored grain supplies (Wikipedia). This relationship gradually deepened, and cats became an integral part of many cultures. In ancient Egypt, cats were venerated and considered sacred animals. The goddess Bastet, depicted with a cat’s head, symbolized protection, fertility, and home. Killing a cat in Egypt was regarded as a severe crime. In medieval Europe, however, cats faced persecution due to superstitions associated with witchcraft, leading to their mass eradication in some regions. Today, cats are among the most popular pets in the world. Their ability to adapt to various environments, from urban apartments to rural farms, makes them ideal companions for different types of people. Additionally, they are known for their cleanliness and ability to use a litter box without special training. Cats also have a significant impact on ecosystems. As predators, they help regulate populations of small rodents and birds. However, in some areas, particularly on islands where native species lack natural predators, cats can pose a threat to biodiversity. Therefore, it is crucial to control the population of stray cats and ensure that domestic cats do not endanger local wildlife. Currently, numerous studies focus on the behavioral and genetic aspects of cats. These studies help us better understand their behavior, health needs, and relationship with humans. For instance, research on communication between cats and humans reveals how cats can adjust their vocalizations to gain attention or food (UnitedLife).
