Dušičky a sviatok Všetkých svätých

Hits: 7574

Kresťanský sviatok Všetkých svätých pripadá na 1. november. 2. november prislúcha Spomienke na všetkých verných zosnulých – Dušičkám. Latinsky In commemoratione omnium fidelium defunctorum (Wikipedia.cz). Sviatok All hallow even znamená doslovne predvečer všetkých svätých. Masky stríg a oheň mali pomôcť zahnať démonov viesť dobré duše do ríše smrti.

Christian holiday All Saints’ Day falls on November 1st. November 2nd is dedicated to the Memory of All the Faithful Departed – All Souls’ Day. In Latin, it is called In commemoratione omnium fidelium defunctorum” (Wikipedia.cz). On both of these days, we more often visit cemeteries, decorate graves with flowers and wreaths, and light candles in their memory. It is a symbol of faith in eternal life (Vlk). By remembering our deceased loved ones, we pay them respect and express that they continue to live in our hearts (teraz.sk). In the East, the feast of all martyrs has been celebrated since the 4th century (Wikipedia CZ). The celebration of All Saints’ Day originates from the historical event of the consecration of the Roman Pantheon to the Virgin Mary and all the holy martyrs on May 13, 609 (katolik.cz). In the 8th century, the feast of All Saints began to be celebrated on November 1st in Ireland and England, and in Rome from the 9th century (Wikipedia CZ). Perhaps on November 1st because the Celts started the new year on this day (katolik.cz). The Celtic population bid farewell to the goddess of life and welcomed the rule of the prince of death Samhain on the night of October 31st to November 1st, marking the beginning of winter (teraz.sk). The commemoration of all the deceased (All Souls’ Day) is a remembrance of the departed. Prayer for the deceased is one of the oldest Christian traditions, and the remembrance of the dead is part of every Mass. The commemoration appeared after 998 in the French Benedictine monastery of Cluny. Since 1915, when a large number of people died in World War I, priests can celebrate three Masses on this day. In the past, in some villages in the Czech and Moravian countryside, a special pastry called dušičky” (little souls) was baked, which was given to travelers, beggars, and the poor (katolik.cz). The holiday All Hallow Even literally means the eve of All Saints. From it, the holiday Halloween, especially celebrated in the USA, originated. Its origin is associated with the Celtic festival Samhain (pronounced souin”, sauin”). On this day, a living person could visit the underworld. The Celts used to prepare a feast for the souls. The whole ritual was to ensure the inhabitants of the house peace from evil spirits and protection by good spirits. Masks of witches and fire were supposed to help drive away demons and lead good souls to the realm of death. The Irish legend tells of Jack O’Lantern, a drunkard who was rejected by both heaven and hell for his vile behavior. However, hell could not accept him because he had received a special promise from the devil through deceit. Since then, his spirit has been traveling around the world with a pumpkin lantern. This is how the custom of placing pumpkins on windows and sills originated. People believe that Jack takes the light and protects them from evil spirits (diva.sk).

Ľadový Váh

Hits: 2239

In winter, the Váh River undergoes a remarkable transformation, especially during severe cold spells. Plunging temperatures below freezing lead to the river’s freezing. When the banks are covered in snow simultaneously, the scene becomes even more enchanting. Occasionally, the Váh freezes to an extent that allows for ice skating. In such winters, the Váh minimizes itself to a commonplace in art, turning into a different natural theater that captivates with a unique atmosphere and showcases the beauty and life even in the chilly months.

Snehové zrážky budia dojem čistoty a ticha v scenérii, kde inak dominuje ruch. Zima formuje aj faunu a samozrejme aj flóru. Ľad dokáže obmedziť pohyb niektorých druhov rýb a iných vodných organizmov.

The Danube, even in winter, remains a majestic river flowing through Central Europe. During the winter, it undergoes a partial transformation in its character. Low temperatures lead to freezing. Snowfall creates an impression of purity and silence in a scenery where noise would otherwise dominate. Winter shapes both the fauna and, of course, the flora. Ice can restrict the movement of certain fish and other aquatic organisms. Some fish remain active even in winter. Frozen banks become a space for realization for birds, swans, cormorants, which find peaceful places for wintering. The banks are also home to many species of birds in winter. They find food here as well. Winter brings an opportunity for studying adaptations and changes in the ecosystem.

Sochy

Hits: 6981

Sochárstvo má hlboké historické korene, siaha do antiky. Gréci a Rimania tvorili dokonalé sochy s ľudským výrazom.

Statues are artistic creations that can be carved from various materials. They evoke our emotions through monumental memorials as well as abstract sculptures. Statues often enrich urban spaces, creating what can be described as partial art galleries. Moreover, they integrate with people, serving as a motivation for gatherings. Sculpture has deep historical roots that trace back to antiquity. The Greeks and Romans crafted flawless statues with human expressions. During the Renaissance, sculpture experienced a renaissance itself, with masters like Michelangelo and Bernini creating pinnacle works in the history of humanity.

The modern era has brought radical changes to sculpture. A world of abstract forms has emerged, with sculptors discovering new ways and expressions for their thoughts and emotions. Materials such as marble and bronze are still utilized, but unconventional materials like recycled metal, wood, and glass are also embraced. Statues represent emotions, culture, and ideas. They are more than just static forms; they are conduits of artistic expression that bridge the historical and contemporary, creating a timeless language that speaks to the human experience.

During this time, the city transforms into a fairytale land filled with lights, music, and the enticing aromas of Christmas markets. The Christmas markets are an integral part of the holiday season in the Austrian capital, hosting more than 20 markets, each with its own unique atmosphere. One of the most famous ones is located in front of the Imperial Palace. The square in front of the city hall turns into Christkindlmarkt with a Christmas tree and an outdoor ice rink. Vienna’s cultural scene is rich during the Christmas season as well. Many squares and streets are adorned with Christmas trees. Families in Vienna come together for Christmas dinners, where traditional cabbage soup and carp are served. Loved ones and friends are visited to share the joy and warmth of the Christmas atmosphere. Christmas in Vienna is a truly enchanting experience that combines cultural richness, festive traditions, and the modern charm of this European capital.
