Každý zaželal klubu elán do ďalších rokov.

Cien bolo neúrekom a neustále pribúdali. Mimochodom tombola mi priniesla presne to, čo som chcel – krmivo a knihu.

Predstavila Nové a vzácne vodné rastliny”.

Želám CYPERUS‑u do ďalších rokov veľa úspechov a tvorivých nápadov.

Centenary Celebration of CYPERUS in Brno

The Brno Aquarium Club CYPERUS celebrated its hundredth anniversary, and the event was well-prepared by CYPERUS members. On the weekend of March 17 – 18, 2007, they offered a valuable program for attendees. The planning for our visit to Brno started in 2006 since we, members of klub.akva.sk, were aware of the significance of the upcoming celebration. As the event date approached, we invited club members to join us. We arranged accommodation, drivers, cars, and set off to Brno in the morning on February 17, 2007. Additionally, other aquarists from Bratislava came to Brno.

CYPERUS organized the event at the Interhotel Best Western Premier Hotel, located in the center of Brno. Upon entering the hotel, we easily found the areas of interest. The organizers were efficient, and during our accreditation,” there was a lot of activity and information. Before entering the lecture hall, there was a panel where we could delve into the history of CYPERUS, featuring photographs of fish by Jirka Plíštil, as well as the presence of EXOT Hobby and the magazines Akvafórum and Terafórum.

Saturday Lectures

The first lecture on Saturday was given by Rainer Stawikovski, the editor-in-chief of the DATZ magazine, on the topic Observation of South American Cichlids in Nature and in the Aquarium.” It provided several interesting insights that caught the attention of the audience. Uwe Werner followed with a lecture on Crabs, Crayfish, Shrimp in Freshwater Aquariums.” Considering the growing popularity of crustaceans, this topic added a nice touch.

The official opening was scheduled for 1:00 PM. It pleased me that representatives of the city and the state showed interest in the event. Each of them addressed us, and the speech by the governor of the South Moravian Region, Ing. Stanislav Juránek, was particularly valuable. After the official part, Christel Kasselmann presented Aquascaping – The Path to Success,” which was well-received.

Evening Program

After Kasselmann’s lecture, there was a more relaxed program – a tombola (raffle). The prizes were abundant and kept increasing. I also won – three types of fish food and a book by Ad Konings on cichlids. After the tombola and a generous dose of fun, we went for dinner. Both the dinner and the two lunches took place in the hotel. The promised cimbalom music played, but unfortunately, the social evening did not turn out as expected. The spaces, especially the prices of the four-star Interhotel, were too cold. What a shame!

Perhaps you don’t know, but aquarists in Bratislava, and elsewhere in Slovakia, have been meeting (organized) for quite some time, primarily thanks to www.akva.sk. Our Brno friends tried to organize a Moravian meeting of aquarists in Brno on the occasion of the celebrations, which was discussed on www.akvarista.cz. Little did they know that it would turn into a Moravian meeting” with guests from Slovakia. After some disappointment, a decision was made to strengthen the relationships. We quickly decided to attend the event in Brno. We had already arranged everything: accommodation, drivers, and cars. We set off to Brno in the morning on February 17, 2007. The event was about to become a Moravian meeting” with Slovak guests. After accumulating disappointment, the desire to strengthen relationships grew. After a short discussion, we went to the designated meeting place in Brno. We sat down and had a good time. The hosts were already on their way home after midnight, but we stayed a little longer. We weren’t far away; we stayed overnight and looked forward to the next day and the upcoming program. Unsurprisingly, we were glad to have attended both days and met many familiar faces.

Sunday Lectures

Sunday started with breakfast at the Interhotel, and by nine o’clock, Walter Deproost was giving a lecture on Lake Malawi – Ten Times on Lake Malawi – My Destiny.” After Deproost, Gilbert Maebe presented Rainbows,” which was the most interesting lecture for me. I learned a lot about rainbowfish, and I had a strong impression that Gilbert Maebe devoted himself to the topic. In the last lecture, Christel Kasselmann returned with New and Rare Aquatic Plants.” She showcased some species that are not necessarily rare but occur infrequently. The technical quality of the presented plant photographs was outstanding. After the lecture, Christel Kasselmann distributed the brought plants, which was very nice. After the lectures, CYPERUS organized a visit to Sklorex. Sklorex is a well-known Brno aquaristics shop, and its owner, Mr. Šmerda, is a member of the CYPERUS club. The visit did not disappoint me. I especially liked the approach to the customer. After the visit to the aquarium shop, we set off for home with a good feeling about the successful event. We didn’t get tired of aquaristics; in Bratislava, we even made a visit to the fish of one of the participants in the club trip” – specifically at Braňo Barčin.

Conclusion

The lack of discussion was a shortcoming of the lectures. Many things could have been clarified through discussion, especially considering the less than perfect translation. I missed lectures from Czech representatives, perhaps members of CYPERUS. Due to time constraints, there was no room for discussion, and the lectures were too long, or rather, there were too many :-(. The lectures relied mostly on photographs, and it was evident that their higher quality processing was apparent. The organizers thought about the social side of the celebrations. On Saturday, they prepared cimbalom music. The centenary celebration took place in a pleasant, friendly, and dignified spirit. I personally would not have forgiven myself for missing such an event. I am very glad that I contributed to this successful event with my participation. I wish CYPERUS many successes and creative ideas in the years to come.

Kromě toho do Brna přijeli i další akvaristé z Bratislavy.

Každý popřál klubu elán do dalších let.

Ceny byly hojné a neustále přibývaly.

Představila Nové a vzácné vodní rostliny”.

Přeji CYPERUS‑u do dalších let mnoho úspěchů a tvůrčích nápadů.

Záhorie, kraj hraničný, ležiaci za horami

Hits: 4171

Záhorie si pamätá pochodovanie rímskych légií, zjednotenie slovanských kmeňov do Veľkomoravskej ríše. Viedli tu cesty nemeckých rytierov i českých kniežat.

Chvojnícka pahorkatina má tri časti: Skalický hájik, Unínsku a Senickú pahorkatinu.

V 5. a 6. storočí sem prichádzali Slovania, ktorých atakovali avarské kočovné kmene. Tatársky vpád v rokoch 12411242 spôsobil zánik dreveno-hlinitých hradov a stavali si kamenné hrady. Od roku 1221 mala Viedeň právo skladu. To znamenalo, že tu tovar museli vyložiť a ponúknuť domácim kupcom. Zároveň boli nútení kupovať od viedenských kupcov drahý tovar privezený zo západu. Viedeň sa snažili kupci obísť. Kupci prebrodili Dunaj až v Ostrihome a pokračovali po Českej ceste do Trnavy, cez Malé Karpaty do Jablonice, Senice, Holíča a odtiaľ do Brna, Prahy a veľkomiest západnej Európy.

Myjava, Vrbovce a Sobotište pytlikárstvom.

Záhorie is a region situated between the Czech Republic to the north, Austria to the west, the Small Carpathians to the southeast, and the Danube River to the south. Záhorie has a rich history, witnessing the march of Roman legions, the unification of Slavic tribes into the Great Moravian Empire, and the presence of German knights and Czech princes. For centuries, it has been a borderland. With an area of approximately 2500 km², Záhorie is home to nearly 300,000 residents (zahorie.sk). The name Záhorie has its roots in the 17th century, derived from the Latin term Processus transmontanus,” which referred to the region behind the Small Carpathians, beyond the mountains. Other historical names include Moravské pole na Slovensku, Slovak Pomoravie, Moravská nížina, and Moravský dol. Administratively, Záhorie has never formed a unified entity (zahorie.sk). It includes the districts of Skalica, Senica, Malacky, partially Myjava, and Bratislava – Záhorská Bystrica. The majority of the territory is characterized by the Záhorie Lowland (zahorie.sk).

Human economic activities led to the movement of sand, prompting afforestation of the loose sands in the Záhorie Lowland during the 16th and 17th centuries. However, the natural character of the forests on windy sands was altered by the extensive planting of pine trees (zahorie.sk). Today, Záhorie is known for its pine and riparian forests and sandy soil. Winds are frequent in this region (lozorno.sk). Originally, the Záhorie Lowland was a heavily marshy area with swamps, lakes, and dead river branches. Soft riparian forests still exist on the floodplains of the Morava and Myjava rivers. On higher elevations, there are hard riparian forests. The wetland forests on permanently waterlogged peat soils, such as in the nature reserve Bezdné near Plavecký Štvrtok, are unique. From a botanical perspective, Devínska Kobyla is also remarkable (zahorie.sk).

The Záhorie Lowland is divided into two parts: the Borská Lowland and the Chvojnická Hills. The central part of the Borská Lowland consists of windswept sands northeast of Lozorno and Malacky. To the north, sand dunes rise in Lakšárska Hills. Along the Morava and Myjava rivers, there are the river basins of Myjavská and Dolnomoravská niva, gravel-sand deposits disturbed by river meandering. Between Cerová and Zohor, there is the Podmalokarpatská Depression, where extensive marshy areas formed. The Chvojnická Hills have three parts: Skalický hájik, Unínska, and Senická pahorkatina. Thick layers of loess and loess-like soils are found here. Záhorie also features karst areas in the Small Carpathians – Borinský and Plavecký kras. The Myjavská Hills extend between the Small and White Carpathians (zahorie.sk). The Záhorie Lowland does not have a dense river network, and human activities have significantly altered the original network. The region is relatively dry, with major rivers being the Morava, Myjava, and Rudava. However, significant groundwater reserves are found, especially in the sandy and loamy sands. Numerous water reservoirs, gravel pits, and ponds are also present (zahorie.sk). Most lakes in Záhorie were formed by gravel and sand mining. Caves such as Deravá skala and Pohanská are part of the Malé Karpaty karst (lozorno.sk). Birds of prey, including the peregrine falcon, nest on the rocks and ruins of castles in the Small and White Carpathians (zahorie.sk). Additionally, oil and natural gas deposits have been discovered near Gbely, and industrial mining has been ongoing since 1914 (lozorno.sk).

Záhorie is one of the earliest settled areas in Slovakia. Among the oldest inhabited sites are the Deravá skala cave near Plavecký Mikuláš and a Paleolithic settlement near Sološnica. In the 6th to 5th centuries BCE, the Scythians arrived, followed by the Celts. Settlements from the later Iron Age have been found in places like Myjava, Devín, and Šaštín. The Celts built well-fortified settlements, excelled in metallurgy, and produced tools, weapons, and jewelry (zahorie.sk). The extensive oppidum on Pohanská hill was constructed during this period (lozorno.sk). The Germanic Markomani and Quadi displaced the Celts and Dacians around the turn of the eras. Their scattered tribes also reached Záhorie. The last Germanic tribe in Záhorie were the Lombards in the first half of the 6th century. In the 5th and 6th centuries, Slavs arrived, facing attacks from Avar nomadic tribes. From the time of the Great Moravian Empire, settlements and forts are known in Podbranč, Plavecký Štvrtok, Senica, Rohožník, Stupava, Zohor, Vyšná pri Morave, and Devín (zahorie.sk). After the establishment of Hungary, Záhorie became a border area with the Kingdom of Bohemia and Austria. To protect the borders, tribes like the Sikuls and Plavcs were summoned, and local names like Plavecký hrad, Plavecké Podhradie, Sekule, and others bear witness to their presence (lozorno.sk). The Tatar invasion in 1241 and 1242 led to the destruction of wooden and earthen castles, prompting the construction of stone castles. From 1221, Vienna had the right to store goods, meaning that merchants had to unload and offer their goods to local merchants. Simultaneously, they were forced to buy expensive goods brought from the west by Viennese merchants. Merchants sought to bypass Vienna, crossing the Danube at Esztergom and continuing along the Czech Road to Trnava, over the Small Carpathians to Jablonica, Senica, Holíč, and from there to Brno, Prague, and major cities in Western Europe. This decision elevated the Czech Road to a fundamental European route, around which feudal castle estates began to form in the second half of the 13th and 14th centuries (zahorie.sk).

After the Battle of Mohács in 1526 and the Turkish campaign in 1663, the Slovak population in Záhorie decreased. Croatian colonists became the new ethnic group settling the hills around Myjava, Dúbravka, Lamač, and Záhorská Bystrica. In 1528, Hutterites, a reformist Anabaptist group known as Habans, arrived in western Slovakia. Sobotište became their center. They lived as one large family, collectively managing their affairs, and no one was allowed to have private property. They were involved mainly in pottery and ceramics. In the 18th and 19th centuries, Skalica gained renown for its fine wool. Brezová pod Bradlom became a center for leather and linen production. Myjava, Vrbovce, and Sobotište were known for their bag making. In Šaštín, a cardboard factory was established in 1736, which, until its demise in 1847, was the largest and most famous manufactory in Slovakia. It was one of the largest in Europe, employing almost 20,000 people, with its spinning centers in Lower Austria, especially in Vienna. A majolica manufactory was founded in Holíč. Moreover, it became a center for sheep breeding improvement. In the 1770s, Skalica, with 5,000 inhabitants, was among the ten largest cities in Slovakia. In 1848 – 49, Myjava was one of the centers of the national movement. The first national assembly was held here, declaring the Slovak National Council as a representative body (zahorie.sk).

In the summer, the largest and most significant meetings of military historical vehicles and clubs of military history in Slovakia, named Sahara and Slovak Sands, take place here. Other cultural events include the Malacky Music Spring, Malacky Cultural Summer, theatrical event Zejdeme se na hambálku, and Apple Harvesting in Malacky, Stupava, and Jabloňovo. Haban Festival in Veľké Leváre, International Children’s Folklore Festival Mravenec in Plavecký Štvrtok, Garden Gallery Alojz Machaj in Plavecký Štvrtok, Beer Festival and Cabbage Cooking Days in Stupava, Village of Crafts and Arts Abeland near Lozorno, Days of Grapes and Wine in Lozorno, Pomoravia Festival in Jabloňovo, Goulash Cooking Competition in Rohožník, folk event Festival Podhoran, Krumpolový deň, gastronomic event Cooking Christmas Sauerkraut in Sološnica, Harvest Festival in Plavecký Petřich, Trdlofest, musical event Musica Sacra, vine-growing Open Barn Day in Skalica, Tereziánske dni, Castle Beer Festivities in Holíč, Castle Celebrations in Podbranč, Aviation Day and Martin’s Lantern Parade in Senica, Dragon Boat Races on Kunovská Reservoir (Michaela Janotová, Eduard Timko).

Czechia is our western neighbor. We are connected to it by a common history. After all, it was only in 1993 that the federation of Czechoslovakia dissolved. The capital city is Prague. The so-called father of the country is Charles IV.

Česko tvoria Čechy, Morava a Sliezsko. Geologicky Český masív a Západné Karpaty. Prvé osídlenie siaha do staršej doby kamennej, zhruba 28000 rokov pred n. l. (Wikipedia.sk). The official name of the state is the Czech Republic, simply Czechia. Some of the public rejects the word Czechia. Its first usage dates back to 1777 as a synonym for Bohemia (Wikipedia.cs). Czechia consists of Bohemia, Moravia, and Silesia. Geologically, it includes the Czech Massif and the Western Carpathians. Its area is 78,866 km², with a population of over 10 million people. Major Czech rivers include the Elbe, Vltava, Morava, Dyje, Odra, and Opava. Climate-wise, it is characterized by a mix of oceanic and continental influences. The patron saint of the Czech country is Saint Wenceslaus. The first settlement dates back to the Upper Paleolithic, approximately 28,000 years before Christ (Wikipedia.sk).

V 1. storočí sem prichádzali germánske kmene Kvádi a Markomani. Karol IV. pripojil Braniborsko, Lužice a Sliezsko (Wikipedia.cs).

In the 1st century, Germanic tribes, such as the Quadi and Marcomanni, migrated to this territory. According to some historians, for example, Balázs Komoróczy, there was an attempt by the Romans to create the province of Marcomania on part of the territory during the rule of Marcus Aurelius, with its center likely in southern Moravia, possibly in Mušov (Wikipedia.cs). By the beginning of the 5th century, the population decreased, with a part likely leaving in 409 with the Vandals and Alans. In the first half of the 5th century, due to the departure of the Marcomanni to Noricum, the region was affected. There was probably an influence of the Hun invasion led by Attila on the Morava in the late 5th century. By the end of the 5th century, against the current of the Elbe, the Lombards and Thuringians reached Bohemia. In the second half of the 6th century, Slavic tribes arrived here (Wikipedia.cs). In the 7th century, a part of the territory became part of the Samo Empire. In the 9th century, it became part of Great Moravia. Unification occurred in the 10th century through the efforts of the Přemyslid dynasty (Wikipedia.sk). The Czech Kingdom, established in 1198, reached its peak of power under the rule of the last Přemyslids and Charles IV. During the reign of Přemysl Otakar II, it extended beyond the Alps to the Adriatic Sea. Wenceslaus II acquired territories through Poland to the Baltic Sea, while Wenceslaus III gained Hungarian territories. Charles IV annexed Brandenburg, Lusatia, and Silesia (Wikipedia.cs).

Až do roku 1804 Česko patrilo k rímskonemeckej ríši.

Czechia was a significant part of the Holy Roman Empire, and its ruler held the position of an elector – a voter for the emperor. In the 15th century, Czechia was substantially weakened by the Hussites (Wikipedia.cs). Until 1804, Czechia belonged to the Holy Roman Empire. From 1526 to 1918, it was concurrently part of the Austrian Empire (Wikipedia.sk). In 1526, the Habsburg monarchy took the Czech throne. The victory at the Battle of White Mountain in 1620 contributed to the final elimination of the last remnants of independence. The crown territories, which were largely incongruent after 1749, remained so until the end of World War I in 1918: the Kingdom of Bohemia, the Margraviate of Moravia, and the Duchy of Upper and Lower Silesia (Wikipedia.cs). From 1867 to 1918, Czechia was part of Austria-Hungary. The border regions of Bohemia and Moravia – the Sudetenland – were inhabited by Germans from the 13th century until 1945 (Wikipedia.sk). From the 17th century until the early 19th century, Germanization efforts took place in Czech territory (Wikipedia.cs).
