They vary in color from gray to bro­wn, hel­ping them blend into the sur­roun­ding envi­ron­ment. They inha­bit roc­ky are­as of the lake, at depths ran­ging from 5 to 50 meters. They are ter­ri­to­rial fish. Pro­vi­ding them with enough hiding spots in the aqu­arium, main­tai­ning a water tem­pe­ra­tu­re bet­we­en 24 – 28 °C, and slight­ly alka­li­ne pH are essential.
