Crosses are symbolic and religious objects that hold significance in various cultures and religious traditions. Their shapes and meanings can be diverse, giving them a universal or particular value for different communities. In Christianity, the cross is one of the most important symbols, representing suffering, resurrection, and hope associated with the crucifixion of Jesus. Crosses are widespread in Christian churches, cemeteries, and can also be part of religious artworks or personal items of faith. Christian crosses often have a distinctive shape with a horizontal beam above a vertical one, but there are various variations of this symbol. In other religions and cultures, different forms of crosses or similar symbols with distinct spiritual meanings may exist. For instance, in Hinduism and Buddhism, there are symbols with a similar appearance but carrying different spiritual significance. Even within Christianity, there are various cross variants, such as the cross with arms shaped like the letter T” (known as the St. Andrew’s Cross) or the cross without a horizontal beam (known as the Greek cross).
