Druh jazera Malawi. Nepostojí a nepostojí :-). Pomerne agresívny, bojaschopný druh, voči sebe aj iným druhom. Registrujem tieto formy P. williamsi: blue lips, Makanjila, Maleri, Manda, Nakathenga, Namalenje, Nkudzi, red top.
Species from Lake Malawi. The “blue lips” form has blue lips – the edge of the mouth. Williamsi are extremely voracious. Unlike other zebras, they usually have rounded bellies after feeding. They are also extremely active, almost nervous, I would say a sanguine sporty type ;-). They don’t stand still ;-). A relatively aggressive, combative species, both towards each other and other species. I recognize these forms of P. williamsi: blue lips, Makanjila, Maleri, Manda, Nakathenga, Namalenje, Nkudzi, red top.
Spishi kutoka Ziwa Malawi.
Pomerne žravý a odvážny. Dosahuje 10 cm. Samček dokáže byť neuveriteľne nebojácny a bojovný. Už som ho zopár krát rukou naháňal a až vtedy dostane strach a zalezie. Registrujem tieto formy: Chicane, Londo, Lupingu, Manda, Mbuzi, Membe, north, orange, Ponta Messuli, Tumbi.
A truly royal species from the East African Lake Malawi, beautifully colored, with males exhibiting more vibrancy. Relatively voracious and bold, reaching up to 10 cm. The male can be incredibly fearless and combative, actively attacking my hand or the hose in the aquarium on multiple occasions, which can be somewhat unsettling. The Kingsizei won’t cause harm, but the hand might unintentionally pose a threat to him when it ventures so close. I’ve chased him with my hand a few times, and only then does he become frightened and retreat. However, over time, he starts peeking out again and “forgets” about the warning. He is territorial and bold towards other species, especially disliking different species more than males of his own. Often, the male seems nervous, swiftly moving up and down the same path as if devoid of senses. It’s better not to let another fish get in his way during such moments. I kept them together with Neolamprologus buescheri, and a few times I witnessed the buescheri opening its papilla, ready to confront. Fortunately, it never came to that, as the dental equipment of both species is vastly different, and Kingsizei would have been at a disadvantage. Buescheri are tolerant towards other fish in this regard, but the choleric behavior of the king has tested their patience a few times. Kingsizei seems aware of his subordinate position and eventually stops attempting. Kingsizei are relatively willing not to fight; it just requires patience.
In Bratislava at Incheba, the World Dog Show took place from October 8th to 11th, 2009. I regret that I didn’t manage to find enough time to fully enjoy the exhibition. I only had an hour, and I had to keep an eye on the time to catch my train. Next time, I’ll definitely go early in the morning. It was also a great pleasure to meet Ivan Čaniga during the event, who seemed to be enjoying himself among the various four-legged creatures of all shapes and sizes.
Over time, I’ve attended several dog shows, but this one was truly massive. The Incheba premises, where dog shows are usually held, proved insufficient, leading to competitions and displays taking place even outside the main halls under a gigantic tent, as evident in the introductory photos. I’m already looking forward to the next exhibition.

Aphyosemion poliaki Amiet, 1991 patrí do čeľade Nothobranchiide (fishbase.org). Pochádza z východných svahov Mount Kamerunu, v potokoch plných organického materiálu, v mäkkej vode bohatej na rastlinné výluhy a humínové látky. Živia sa hmyzom. Voda pre chov je vhodná s ph 5.5 – 6.8, 3 dH. Dorastá do 5 cm (mistecko.cz). Dorastá do veľkosti približne 5 cm.
Samec počas pytačiek prezentuje svoje farebné plutvy a vykonáva tanečné pohyby okolo samičky.
Aphyosemion poliaki Amiet, 1991 belongs to the Nothobranchiidae family (fishbase.org). It originates from the eastern slopes of Mount Cameroon, where it inhabits streams filled with organic material, in soft water rich in plant residues and humic substances. They feed on insects. Suitable water conditions for their maintenance include a pH range of 5.5 – 6.8 and 3 dH. These fish grow up to 5 cm in size (mistecko.cz) and are often found in the upper and middle parts of the tank (rybicky.net). It is also known as Mount Cameroon Panchax. This small, colorful fish’s natural habitat consists of streams. They reach a size of approximately 5 cm, and their bodies are vividly colored, often adorned with contrasting stripes and spots. Additionally, these fish have the ability to change their color, especially during the breeding season. The male is typically more conspicuous, displaying more intense colors and distinctive patterns, while females are generally smaller and less vividly colored.
It prefers soft water with low mineral content. The water temperature should be suitable, ranging from 22 to 26 °C. Aquarium lighting should be moderate, and suitable hiding places and plants provide fish with places to hide and spawn. These fish are suitable for community aquariums, but when selecting companion species, care should be taken to ensure their peaceful nature. The aquarium should be well-filtered and regularly maintained to ensure optimal water quality. Breeding can be challenging. During courtship, the male displays its colorful fins and performs dance-like movements around the female. After mating, the female lays eggs on plants or in the substrate. During incubation, the male watches over the eggs and protects them from potential threats.
