Grindal – skvelé krmivo pre ryby

Hits: 17823

Tým urýchlime prijatie grindalu do molitanu. A to nejaký čas trvá. Záleží to na skúsenosti a množstve už zabehnutých kultúr. Týždeň, dva, niekedy aj mesiac. Do misky vložíme molitan a naň dáme zo začiatku mierne namočenú polovičku detskej piškóty.

Vtedy ho treba vyhodiť a použiť nový.

Grindal – Enchytraeus buchholtzi is related to the rupicids Enchytraeus albidus but is smaller. It occurs in South America. E. buchholtzi was accidentally imported in the humus of imported tropical plants. Its name comes from the Swedish aquarist Nancy Grindal, who first used it as fish food in 1950. In nature, it feeds on decaying plant remains (Tomanec). Ideal for breeding are shallow dishes with a larger bottom content, such as lunch dishes. You can get them at stationery stores. Place moistened foam rubber on the bottom. If you want to use new foam rubber, wash it first. You can wash it in aquarium water, which you pour into a bucket, for example. Alternatively, before using the foam rubber, leave it in such water for several days. This speeds up the acceptance of grindal into the foam rubber. You can even dirty” new foam rubber in water that you used to clean foam rubber from the aquarium. Sometimes I also use aquarium foam rubber, which has both advantages and disadvantages. Grindal is fed exclusively with small baby biscuits. Generally, it can be said that when starting a new culture of grindal, you win only after it has settled in. And that takes some time. It depends on experience and the number of established cultures. A week, two, sometimes a month. Place the foam rubber in the dish and put a slightly moistened half of a baby biscuit on it at first. Ideally, place a glass from an older culture with grindal clumps on it. When you eventually notice that the grindal from the glass has disappeared and there is still not enough in the foam rubber, take a glass from another culture and use it for the new culture. At first, I recommend using a smaller amount of the biscuit. Over time, I divide one biscuit into one grindal box, occasionally more. Sometimes, if the culture is very wet, I feed dry biscuits. However, there is a higher risk of mold, so approach this gradually. Place a glass plate on the foam rubber. It can be thicker or thinner; it doesn’t matter. Glass serves as a practical material for feeding grindal. Cover the entire container. Grindal is a soil organism, so it’s understandable that it doesn’t like light. If we have it closed with an opaque lid, we can keep it on the table. Quietly on the shelf or in a closed cabinet. The foam rubber should be 10 mm to 30 mm. Thinner ones are pointless – they soak up very easily, and thicker ones are prone to settling, with liquid components descending to the bottom, which is not suitable. If the biscuit is not consumed in time, it is subject to mold growth. Especially in summer when it is warmer. However, nothing terrible happens; remove the mold or the entire biscuit. On average, a normal culture in a lunch” container consumes about 34 of a baby biscuit a day. Most of the grindal in a running culture is in the foam rubber. If grindal suddenly stops reproducing or individual worms are small, the foam rubber is probably too wet. You can safely take out the foam rubber and rinse it under running water in the sink. When rinsing, there is no need to fear a significant loss of grindal; some grindal always remains in the foam rubber. Alternatively, you can leave the dish open for a day or two. This is advisable even when the foam rubber is quite dark – which means it is either too wet or too dirty. If you rinse the foam rubber, wash the dish and glass as well. It is bad if the foam rubber is very saturated with water or biscuit waste,” and there is a possible increase in temperature, grindal can easily escape from the foam rubber – onto the sides of the dish and even the lid. If we don’t intervene promptly, the grindal will suffocate. If that happens, it’s the end of the grindal, and it has its own smell ;-). The optimal breeding temperature is 2530°C; below 20°C, reproduction ceases. Grindal prefers a higher temperature, but 30°C is already risky. Over time, the foam rubber can radically change its consistency; it gets old. This is normal; over time, the foam rubber literally falls apart. In that case, throw it away and use new foam rubber. An old bed is ideal. Grindal requires care. More than fish.

Maintenance” is necessary at least once every three days. Roughly ten days is the period after which unprovoked grindal dies. If a culture of grindal is not thriving, I proceed by exchanging the glass plate for one with healthy grindal clumps. So I proceed as in the case of starting. Grindal is also suitable for freezing, but I have not seen it offered in this form. However, I occasionally freeze grindal when I don’t have fish to feed. From my own experience, I can say that grindal is not fatty food. Even the nutritional values I found indicate that grindal is roughly on the level of micro-worms or white worms. Sometimes, especially if the foam rubber dries out a bit, mites can appear on it. Small white, scurrying creatures are relatively clearly visible even to the naked eye. They hinder the development of grindal and can completely destroy it with massive reproduction. In that case, I use the contact insecticide Frontline, which I spray on it. It works immediately. Grindal doesn’t smell much, but it doesn’t kill it, and I haven’t noticed any adverse effects on fish. Grindal fully recovers from Frontline in a short time. Of course, we can help it by moving grindal from another culture. Feeding grindal is very simple; just take the entire plate and immerse it in the tank. The biscuit tends not to detach from the glass; it sticks nicely to it. If it does fall off, it’s usually not a big deal, and the fish usually eat it with gusto. If we don’t like it, for example, if we have small fish and the piece of biscuit is large, then we have to remove it.

Grindal can be wiped off with a brush or finger and fed this way. Grindal reproduces quite well. What is on the glass – on the biscuit in the running culture – is only part of the population that went to feed. Most of the worms are in the foam rubber, in the substrate. There is no need to fear that all of it will float away when immersed in water. Grindal is excellent food. Its productivity allows for daily feeding. It has almost no smell, handling it is practical, its size is suitable even for small fish, and larger ones accept it too. The advantage is that grindal can survive in an aquarium for two days (Tomanec). I have been using it since around 2004, and I have never lost it. I have it in about 30 boxes on average. I threw away grindal foam rubber about four times in the whole time, of which I think twice because some flies settled there, which were nice and big, the fish ate them, but it started to look like massive reproduction. Foam rubber broke twice for me. Occasionally, a box or lid broke. Grindal mites never destroyed any grindal culture for me, not even a single one. When I used to keep fruit flies, they sometimes tried to settle on grindal. With the amounts in which I kept grindal, fruit flies, and mites, there is nothing surprising about that. There are, of course, several methods of grindal breeding. For example, someone might cut out a small part of the foam rubber in the middle to streamline breeding and its removal. Someone breeds grindal on clay and feeds it with cornmeal or oat flakes. Or on coconut, sisal fibers, or filter wool (Tomanec). Oat flakes provide a higher chance of mites. According to some sources, it is recommended to breed them in boiled peat, which is fed with oat flakes.

Preto ho treba liečiť opatrne, resp. ak liečime iné ryby, prísavníky predtým odlovme do iného akvária. Neodporúčam chovať prísavníka v akváriu s rastlinami. Veľký prísavník dokáže slušne konzumovať listy rastlín, a pravdaže najčerstvejšie výhonky mu chutia najviac. Takže, ak chceme mať pekné rastliny v dostatočnom rozvoji a máme v nádrži prísavníka, pri veľkosti šesť cm ich premiestnime do iného akvária. Ich vzhľadu ani životu to neprospeje.

A very well-known species, often recognized even by children, and often bought for them. I often hear recommendations from sellers in aquarium shops that it’s good to have a sucker fish. Supposedly, it will clean the glass. It can be said that it’s nonsense. In a normally equipped aquarium, the sucker may end up on the glass, but it certainly won’t clean it in a way that would allow the tank cleaner to skip removing algae and other dirt from the aquarium walls. The keeper would need far more sucker fish, or different sizes of sucker fish than those commonly available. Moreover, assuming that poor sucker fish wouldn’t have anything else to consume. At one time, I had about ten sucker fish in a tank that didn’t even have 30 liters, and the glasses were algae-free. The sucker fish is an undemanding species in terms of water chemistry, but also in general care. It can survive many literal disasters in the aquarium. I think it’s the hardiest aquarium fish I’ve dealt with during my aquarium practice since 1982. I would even say it’s capable of surviving unfishy” conditions. For example, during the tank’s relocation, it often happens that we caught all the fish, or at least we thought we did. After quite some time, suddenly we find a sucker fish, for example, in a bucket on a root, where it held on by sheer willpower. I know cases of nearly drained aquariums, in which a sucker fish survived for a week with minimal water. Perhaps the only thing the sucker fish is more demanding of is the oxygen content in the water. Let’s pay attention to this, especially during transfers and when your kids tend to put too many sucker fish into a small glass. The sight of dead sucker fish is quite repulsive to many people. It also accepts dry food; I recommend occasionally diversifying its diet with spinach, lettuce. Sucker fish like hiding spots, and they often rub themselves in them. They can reproduce in a community tank. However, it’s already problematic whether the offspring can be protected. The male guarding the offspring is very fearless, but he lacks means for defense. After the fry hatch, he no longer cares for them, which often means that their chances in the company of other fish approach zero. As a rubbing surface, the sucker fish chooses some flat, solid object. It’s often, for example, the side wall of the aquarium or a cavity in decorative wood or even a flowerpot. A suitable substrate for the sucker fish, for example, includes PVC pipes added to the tank. There is also one not very aesthetic solution but very effective – a built glass bottle. The ideal one is a broken old bottle from Viney – it’s grooved, and the broken part must be for a narrow neck. The male simply needs a female to lean on properly, preferably in a place where she can’t escape easily.

The sucker fish is prone to the use of medicines. Therefore, it should be treated carefully, or if we treat other fish, we should catch the sucker fish before and move it to another tank. I do not recommend keeping the sucker fish in a planted aquarium. A large sucker fish can consume plant leaves quite well, and of course, he prefers the freshest shoots. So, if we want to have beautiful plants in sufficient development and we have a sucker fish in the tank, we should move them to another tank when they reach six cm. On the other hand, if our aquarium is not doing well, the sucker fish can help by removing decayed plant remains, snails, or even dead fish. I would assess the presence of the sucker fish in the aquarium also in relation to the size of the aquarium, the amount, and type of plants. Ancistrus is a suitable fish for beginning aquariums, especially for its ability to consume organic matter residues. I do not recommend putting Ancistrus in tanks with larger, territorial, strong fish species. Otherwise, there is a risk that they will occasionally be gnawed at. It won’t benefit their appearance or life. For the sucker fish, it’s preferable if it can swim in calmer waters. Ancistrus is a very peaceful fish. Therefore, it is suitable even for hatched fry; it won’t harm them. They only fight among themselves young males, who are probably in a problematic age then ;-). I call them pubertal – immature males. Nowadays, various varieties of sucker fish are already present among aquarists and on the market. Albino, so-called gold, veil-tail forms, etc. Personally, I had a specimen born from a normal form, as well as an albino form, from which it follows that sucker fish are already quite interbred these days. We can recognize a male by the bony protrusions that grow from his head. The female does not have them, or they are very small. Ancistrus can swim very quickly; it’s not easy to catch him, especially in a tank full of plants. Perhaps it has already happened to you that he got tangled in the net during catching. Often in stress, he didn’t want to let go of the net. Sometimes the untangling can take a very long time. Sometimes we have to resort to cutting off the fins, or cutting the net. Once, a sucker fish wandered into the filter for me. The impeller blade probably caught him, and of course, it stopped. The sucker fish showed active signs of life; I did everything possible, but he didn’t want or couldn’t let go. I left the filter freely in the water for a long time in the hope that the Ancistrus would free itself. Unfortunately, nothing like that happened, and I had to start up the filter again. I had to use drastic measures – combination pliers. Of course, the curious sucker fish paid for it with his life.

Svedok akvaristickej minulosti Carassius auratus

Hits: 26590

Registrujem tieto formy: tele, kometa, shubunkin, ryukin, červená karkulka, demekin – teleskopka, čótengan – nebohľadka, suihogon – bublinočka, ranchu – levia hlava, oranda, fancy, veiltail, redcap oranda, pearlscale, fantail, celestial, bublina, black moor, calico. čierna teleskopka, balónové oko, bublinočka, nebohľadka, teleskopka.

The Slovak synonym is zavojnatka”. Species originating from Southeast Asia. There are many forms, veil-tails, goldfish, red ones, etc. Breeding carps is a relatively wild affair. The amount of eggs is very large, reaching up to 5000 pieces. Carps have been bred in medieval China, perhaps even in ancient times. The carp is a larger fish, while the veil-tails are smaller forms, but they can also be classified as large fish. Veil-tails significantly stir up the bottom, often uprooting plants. Therefore, I would recommend keeping them either in a tank without plants or with firmly anchored plants or large rocks as decoration. Alternatively, I would focus more on hardy species such as Echinodorus, Anubias, Cryptocoryne. I do not recommend keeping carps especially with other fish species. Their metabolic process in the digestive system is not perfect, and these excreted products are quite toxic to other fish species. That is also the reason why we should count on one individual per more liters of water to ensure good tank filtration. Bred goldfish – Carassius auratus auratus. Veil-tails – Carassius auratus auratus var. bicaudatus. There are forms that have telescopic eyes, balloon eyes, where the eyelids are inflated to the size of the individual’s head. The breeding of forms knows no limits. I am not a proponent of forms that come at the expense of the animal itself. I register these forms: tele, comet, shubunkin, ryukin, red cap, demekin – telescope, choutengan – bubble-eye, suihogon – bubble-eye, ranchu – lion’s head, oranda, fancy, veiltail, redcap oranda, pearlscale, fantail, celestial, bubble-eye, black moor, calico, black telescope, bubble-eye, telescope.

Paracheirodon axelrodi – neónka červená

Hits: 14780

Rozmnožovanie néoniek, ak nemáme mäkkú vodu s hodnotami vodivosti pod 50 mikrosiemensov, nedovedieme do úspešného konca. Optimálna vodivosť by mala byť 02 mikroS.

The commonly used name for them is also the true neon tetra or red neon tetra. Synonyms: Cheirodon axelrodi, Hyphessobrycon cardinalis. They have a relatively short lifespan – 23 years. In nature, they inhabit the so-called black water originating from forested areas, full of humic acids, leachate from wood, and soil runoff in the Rio Negro basin in Brazil. They require very low levels of bicarbonates, calcium, and magnesium for breeding – very soft water but relatively rich in ions. Neon tetras are often confused with the neon tetra – Paracheirodon innesi; however, these two species do not encounter each other in the wild, living in quite different conditions. Neon tetras earned their name from the blue-green stripe running along their entire body. Thanks to their appearance, they are very popular not only among aquarists but also among the general public. They produce little waste in the water, making them highly suitable for beautiful planted aquariums. Neon tetras prefer cooler water, but they can also be kept in warmer water aquariums, for example, with discus at a temperature of 28 to 30°C. Neon tetras have very sharp teeth, and their mouths are adapted to catching insects from the surface. Fruit flies are a delicacy for them. Occasionally, they accept microorganisms. They can also be fed with dry flake food or small pellets. They can be kept in slightly harder water.

Breeding neon tetras, if we don’t have soft water with conductivity values below 50 microsiemens, will not lead to a successful outcome. The fish can lay eggs, but that’s the end of the success. The pH of this water can reach a value of 5. The optimal conductivity should be 02 microS. Let’s assume we have water with a minimal salt content. A way to naturally achieve low pH and the natural character of black water lies in using fresh decomposing wood placed just before spawning in the tank. Ideally, before the fish. Neon tetras will love it, they will feel at home.” They will reward us in the morning with a thick layer of white eggs.
