Nikdy nebol dobytý priamym útokom (muzeumtn.sk).Najstaršou stavbou obytného a obranného charakteru je hlavná Matúšova veža – bergfrid, donjon, ktorú postavili koncom 11. storočia (muzeumtn.sk). Najmladším palácom hradu je Palác Zápoľských zo začiatku 16. storočia (muzeumtn.sk). Rímsky nápis je najvýznamnejšia epigrafická pamiatka v strednej Európe na sever od Dunaja, zachovaná in situ (trencin.sk). 24.8.1335 sa na Trenčianskom hrade stretol uhorský panovník Karol Róbert so synom Ľudovítom a s poľským kráľom Kazimírom a českým Janom Luxemburským. V roku 1534 hrad dostal do zálohu palatín Alexius Thurzo.

Trenčín Castle is one of the most well-known Slovak castles. It is a national cultural monument, situated on a limestone ridge. The current castle was built in the 11th century (muzeumtn.sk). It stands on the site of an older settlement from the Bronze Age, once inhabited by Celts, Germans, and finally Slavs (trencin.sk). During archaeological excavations from 1972 to 1975, the foundations of a pre-Romanesque rotunda were discovered, placing Trenčín Castle among the oldest sacral objects in the country. The rotunda has a unique four-apse floor plan, almost identical to the one in Mikulčice, Moravia (muzeumtn.sk). The rotunda is the oldest stone structure on the castle grounds (trencin.sk). In the period of Great Moravia, there was a hillfort on the site of the current castle (muzeumtn.sk). It was never directly conquered by a military assault (muzeumtn.sk). The oldest residential and defensive structure is the main Matthew’s Tower – bergfried, donjon, built at the end of the 11th century (muzeumtn.sk). The youngest palace of the castle is the Zápoľský Palace from the early 16th century (muzeumtn.sk). A Roman inscription is the most significant epigraphic monument in Central Europe north of the Danube, preserved in situ (trencin.sk). On August 24, 1335, Hungarian ruler Charles Robert met with his son Louis, Polish King Casimir, and Czech John of Luxembourg at Trenčín Castle. In 1534, the castle was pledged to palatine Alexius Thurzo. A fire in 1790 also damaged the castle (trencin.sk).

The legend of the Love Well is connected to the story of the love of the Turkish nobleman Omar for the beautiful Fatima, a captive of Trenčín Castle’s lord, Stephen Zápoľský (muzeumtn.sk). Night tours are held at the castle, featuring performances by the Historical Fencing Group Wagus, which attract considerable attention (muzeumtn.sk).
