Sandberg – svedok minulosti, klenot súčasnosti

Hits: 7793

Sandberg is part of Devínska Kobyla. Many people from Bratislava often visit Sandberg. It’s really just a stone’s throw away from Devínska Nová Ves.

Sandberg is a paleontological site of European significance from the Miocene period. It was uncovered by a sand quarry. It consists of remnants of the Miocene sea that once covered the Vienna Basin. Sands with intercalations of gravelly sands, sandstones, and breccias were horizontally deposited on Jurassic and Lower Cretaceous limestones dating back 160180 million years ago, during a massive sea uplift 1416 million years ago. The sandstone wall exhibits visible horizontal benches of more resistant sandstone and litotamnium limestone. Massive boulders of sandstone and litotamnium limestone remain on the slopes and at the foot of the hill, remnants of the last chamber blast. Around 300 species of fossils of gastropods, bivalves, sea urchins, sponges, foraminifera, and larger marine and terrestrial animals have been found here. Most famous are the discoveries of shark teeth and bony fish, whale vertebra, remains of turtles, monkeys, seals, woolly rhinoceros, cave bear, and birds. Several endangered and protected sand-loving species are represented in the current flora, such as Peucedanum arenarium, Minuartia glaucina, and Gypsophila paniculata (Information Board). The oldest geological layers are over 100 million years old. During the Tertiary period, Sandberg alternated between a sea bottom, a reef, or part of a coastal island system (devinskakobyla.sk).

Sand used to be mined here, transported to the port on the Morava River by an overhead cable car. During the Tertiary period, about 1416 million years ago, a sea covered this area (panorama.sk). As the name suggests, Sandberg consists of sands, sandstones, litotamnium, lumachella, and sandy limestones and breccias, as well as sandy claystones. From a geological point of view, these rocks were deposited for a short time, so they are poorly consolidated. Thanks to this, Sandberg is a world-famous site of Neogene fossils. Over 300 species of fossilized organisms have been found here. For example, bivalves, worms, sponges, oysters, gastropods, sea urchins, mosses, foraminifera, sharks, seals, and of course fish. Even the vertebra of a whale, Mesocetus hungaricus, was found here. Sandberg was also the seabed of a sea 60 meters deep, as well as a beach, a reef, or land. Washed here were mainly remnants of organisms similar to today’s rhinos, antelopes, canine predators, mastodons, and deinotheriums from the northern slopes. Significant are the findings of fragments of the monkey Pliopithecus antiguus and Sivapithecus darwini, considered ancestors of today’s Indian gibbons. Teeth of Dryopithecus, classified as predecessors of today’s apes, have also been found here (devinska.sk). Marine organisms found here as fossils dated back 1416 million years ago (sazp.sk). Even the vertebra of the spine of a Tertiary whale was found here, discovered by the children of Albín Brunovský (Vodička). The discovery of almost the entire carapace of a turtle is stunning (panorama.sk).

A Sandberg a Devínska Kobyly része. Sok bratislavai gyakran látogatja a Sandberget.

Ennek köszönhetően a Sandberg világhírű a neogén kori fosszíliák szempontjából. Jelentős a Pliop

ithecus antiguus és a Sivapithecus darwini majmok maradványainak felfedezése, amelyeket az indiai gibbonsok őseinek tekintenek. Itt találtak Dryopithecus fogakat is, amelyeket az emberi majmok őseinek tartanak (devinska.sk). A tengeri szervezetek, amelyeket itt fosszíliaként találtak, kb. 14 – 16 millió évvel ezelőtt keletkeztek (sazp.sk). Itt találták meg a harmadidőszaki bálna gerincét is, amelyet Albín Brunovský gyermekei fedeztek fel (Vodička). Lenyűgöző a teknős páncélának majdnem teljes felfedezése is (panorama.sk).

More

Hits: 1963

Ľudia väčšinou more obdivujú. More tvorí približne 71 percent povrchu Zeme a obsahuje približne 97 percent vody na našej planéte.

More je zdrojom inšpirácie, krásy a dôležitých prírodných zdrojov. More má dlhú históriu spojenú s ľudstvom. Výpravy cez more umožnili objavovať nové svety, obchodovať a navzájom sa obohacovať kultúrnymi vplyvmi.

People generally admire the sea. Its immense size and apparent infinity provide a space for contemplation and exploration. The sea plays a crucial role not only in the natural ecosystem but also in culture and history. Covering approximately 71 percent of the Earth’s surface and containing about 97 percent of the planet’s water, the sea’s depth ranges from relatively shallow continental areas to deep oceanic trenches. Every meter of the sea hosts a fascinating ecosystem teeming with life, from microscopic plankton to majestic whales.

The sea is a source of inspiration, beauty, and essential natural resources. Its role in human life is undeniable, emphasizing the importance of recognizing its value and working towards its protection. The world that captivates us with its depth, mystery, and beauty deserves our love and care. This unique ecosystem provides sustenance for numerous fish species, which, in turn, serve as food for many others. The sea also offers a variety of resources for humans.

The sea has a long history intertwined with humanity. Sea voyages enabled the exploration of new worlds, facilitated trade, and enriched cultures with diverse influences. Ancient civilizations, such as the Phoenicians and Greeks, utilized the sea for the exchange of goods and ideas. The sea is often associated with legends and myths, such as the story of Atlantis or sea monsters. Its endless depth and undiscovered areas fuel people’s imagination and serve as the foundation for many stories and artistic works.

Beaches with white sands, azure waters, and endless ocean views have attracted millions of people to travel to coastal areas. Recreational activities by the sea are diverse, ranging from swimming and diving to surfing and fishing. Summer vacations and visits to seaside resorts are synonymous with relaxation and recreation. However, the contemporary world faces serious challenges related to the protection and sustainability of the seas. Pollution with plastics, overfishing, climate change, and the loss of biodiversity pose threats to this precious ecosystem. Protection and a sustainable approach to the use of marine resources are crucial for preserving the beauty and wealth of the sea for future generations.
