Petronell-​Carnuntum je obec ležia­ca v nad­mor­skej výš­ke 175 met­rov nad morom, v kto­rej sa nachá­dza­jú naj­väč­šie rím­ske vyko­páv­ky v stred­nej Euró­pe. Vte­daj­šie mes­to Car­nun­tum malo asi 70 000 oby­va­te­ľov. Dnes tu na roz­lo­he 25.36 km2 žije 1 213 oby­va­te­ľov (Wiki­pe­dia). Cca 2 km od obce sa nachá­dza Hei­den­tor – Pohan­ská brá­na, naj­zná­mej­šia rím­ska sta­veb­ná pamiat­ka v Rakús­ku a sym­bol arche­olo­gic­ké­ho par­ku Car­nun­tum. Do dneš­ných čias sa nám zacho­val iba oblúk brá­ny. Pôvod­ná stav­ba bola posta­ve­ná v rokoch 354361 ako tri­um­fál­ny monu­ment cisá­ra Kon­štan­tí­na II.. Ozna­če­nia Pohan­ská brá­na pochá­dza zo stre­do­ve­ku, kedy bol ten­to oblúk pova­žo­va­ný za nekres­ťan­ské die­lo (car​nun​tum​.co​.at). V obci sa nachá­dza kapl­n­ka svä­té­ho Jána Krs­ti­te­ľa, román­ska rotun­da z prvej polo­vi­ce 12. sto­ro­čia, kto­rú posta­vi­li tem­plá­ri pôvod­ne ako opev­ne­ný kos­tol. Kos­tol svä­tej Pet­ro­ni­ly je s pre­lo­mu 13. sto­ro­čia. Pôvod­ný vod­ný hrad, zámok Pet­ro­nell, nazý­va­ný tiež zámok Traun je zo 17. sto­ro­čia (Wiki­pe­dia CS).


Petronell-​Carnuntum is a vil­la­ge situ­ated at an ele­va­ti­on of 175 meters abo­ve sea level, hou­sing the lar­gest Roman exca­va­ti­ons in Cen­tral Euro­pe. The for­mer city of Car­nun­tum had around 70,000 inha­bi­tants. Today, 1,213 peop­le resi­de in the vil­la­ge, cove­ring an area of 25.36 km² (Wiki­pe­dia). App­ro­xi­ma­te­ly 2 km from the vil­la­ge is the Hei­den­tor – Pagan Gate, the most famous Roman archi­tec­tu­ral monu­ment in Aus­tria and a sym­bol of the Car­nun­tum archa­e­olo­gi­cal park. Only the gate­’s arch has sur­vi­ved to this day. The ori­gi­nal struc­tu­re was built bet­we­en 354361 as a triump­hal monu­ment by Empe­ror Cons­tan­ti­ne II. The term Pagan Gate” dates back to the Midd­le Ages when this arch was con­si­de­red a non-​Christian work (car​nun​tum​.co​.at). The vil­la­ge is home to the Cha­pel of Saint John the Bap­tist, a Roma­ne­sque rotun­da from the first half of the 12th cen­tu­ry, ini­tial­ly cons­truc­ted by the Tem­plars as a for­ti­fied church. The Church of Saint Pet­ro­nil­la dates back to the turn of the 13th cen­tu­ry. The ori­gi­nal water cast­le, Pet­ro­nell Cast­le, also kno­wn as Traun Cast­le, dates from the 17th cen­tu­ry (Wiki­pe­dia CS).

Nur der Bogen des Tores hat bis heute über­lebt. Die urs­prün­gli­che Struk­tur wur­de zwis­chen 354 und 361 als Triumph­mo­nu­ment von Kai­ser Kons­tan­tin II. errich­tet. Der Beg­riff Hei­den­tor” stammt aus dem Mit­te­lal­ter, als die­ses Tor als nicht-​christliches Werk galt (car​nun​tum​.co​.at). Im Dorf befin­det sich die Kapel­le des Hei­li­gen Johan­nes des Täu­fers, eine roma­nis­che Rotun­de aus der ers­ten Hälf­te des 12. Jahr­hun­derts, die urs­prün­glich von den Tem­plern als befes­tig­te Kir­che erbaut wur­de. Die Kir­che der Hei­li­gen Pet­ro­nil­la stammt aus der Wen­de des 13. Jahr­hun­derts. Das urs­prün­gli­che Was­sersch­loss, Sch­loss Pet­ro­nell, auch als Sch­loss Traun bekannt, stammt aus dem 17. Jahr­hun­dert (Wiki­pe­dia CS).
